The Y chromosome is transmitted from the father to the son and does not pass through the female line. So a DNA test of your son would show your husband's YDNA, not the Cain DNA. Regretably the Y-DNA option may not be for you, unless you can locate a male Cain cousin.

According to the Bureau of Land Management, Bushrod W. Cain homesteaded 160 acres in Douglas County Missouri on April 18, 1891. I don't know if this is the same man, but Bushrod is not a common name, so it may be.

This is one of the families represented in the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine. Thomas Cain (1796-1878) from Oranmore Co Galway arrived at Melbourne in 1841 and settled at Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. His descendants live at Cobram, Victoria. John Thomas Cain of Cobram is keen to add to existing information on this family.

I have this man in my family tree that I'm doing for my boyfriend....I've got quite a bit of info I'm willing to share....He was married to Rebecca Stone. George was born April 19, 1809 in Marion TN died July 3, 1889....

Mr. Cain is survived by his wife, Karin Bond of Little River; a son, John Edward Cain Jr. of North Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Jennifer Michelle Cain of Fayetteville; a sister, Catherine Koon (Rick) of Clarendon, N.C.; the mother of his children, Sandra Cain of Fayetteville; and several nieces and a nephew. He had 2 sons of that i know of and their names were Samuel Cain b. abt 1822 and Solomon Cain b. abt 1837, according to the census, their father and mother were from Virginia, they both moved to Mo after the civil war. They are African Americans. Any infomation would be very helpful.

Hello Gwen, I am the administrator of the Cain DNA project that you have been seeking. Not so far away from you either, since I am in Australia and I take it that you are in New Zealand. The Cain DNA project has now identified the Y-DNA of the Cains of the Isle of Man, so we can help you with that, but you will need a male-line Cain relation willing to donate a DNA sample (a simple and painless cheek-swab)as only males carry the Y-chromosome.

i found a query on news-leader.com , ozarks genealogy, this is the only thing i have found so far, it listed the children of goerge w cain and rebecca stone as 1. sarah L. who married andrew biggs, 2. james, who married 3 times, once to amanda stone, once to sarah c stone and once to minerva caslon. 3. john s who married charlotte, 4. charles d who married dorothy teverbaugh 5. eliza who married robert gilliland 6. lucinda who married a mr. evand. amanda and sarah stone probably were some relation to rebecca, just not sure yet how. I'm still trying to find the stone family. if i find any thing else, i will post it for you, so keep checking back. good luck.

Through continued research I have discovered there may be a connection with your Columbus Washington and mine. I have discovered that my Columbus Washington did die in Beggs OK, Nov of either 63 or 64. I have a pic of my Columbus I am attaching to this message. According to family "scuttlebutt" Columbus was married to John Walker's mother and when she passed away he married her sister, not sure of either one's name as of yet, but am hoping that you can help.

Mrs. Cain was born February 19, 1929 to Joseph A. and Molly Mae (Butler) Guillot. She was a homemaker and a member of Amelia Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Cain; parents; grandson, Steven Haines; great grandchildren, Alecia, Brent and Autumn Haines and her sister, Norma Mae Gaubert.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy A Robinson and husband Donald of Beaumont and Jannet and husband Jeff of Pasadena; daughter-in-law, Patsy Snyder of Conway, AR; sons, Joseph A. Snyder, James A. Snyder, Jerry A. Snyder and Jeffery A. Snyder of Fort Worth and sister, Eleanor Michalak of Pineville, LA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; her dear friends, Helen Lord and Dorothy Lagaza. There are numerous and family and friends who loved her dearly.

JEWELL CAIN, 80, of Memphis, died September 5, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Cain. She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Wright and Janet DeStefano; one son, James Cain; 5 grandchildren, Amy Sanders, Dominic and Patrick DeStefano, Jessica and Jack Cain; and 1 great-granddaughter, Arieal Sanders. Mr. James Allen Cain, age 51 of Kinard, FL passed away Friday, September 4, 2009

Mr. Cain was born on December 11, 1957 in Panama City, Fla and had lived in Kinard for most of his life. He was a Tug Boat Captain for 34 years with American Commercial Lines in Jeffersonville, Ind. He was a 1975 graduate of Blountstown High School in Blountstown. Mr. Cain was a member of the Cypress Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Kinard, Fla.

He is surnvived by his wife, Gwen Cain of Kinard, FL and sons: Christerpher Cain and wife Jessica of Kinard, Fla. and Jeremy Cain of Kinard, Fla and daughters: Jamie Roberts of Kinard, Fla and Miranda Cain of Kinard, Fla.; brother Justin Cain of Clarksville, Fla.; sisters: Kathy Franklin and her husband, Ricky of Kinard, Fla.; Darlene Layfield and her husband, Jimmy of Blountstown, Fla.; Violet Goss and her husband, Seymore of Clarksville, Fla.; Mother-in-law: Ruth Stevens of Blountstown, Fla.; five grandchildren: Austin Cain, Jonathon Cain, Jordan Cain, Taylor Roberts and Jaden Roberts; six nieces: Erica Lambert, Chante Stevens, Jennifer Goldyn, Amy McCloud, Melissa Parker, Mor-gan Stevens; seven nephews: Bradley Stevens, Ryan Abbott, Branden Hall, Matt Layfield, Chuck Layfield, Tyler Stevens, Noah Stevens and son-in-law; Jason Roberts.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. CDT at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carlton Cain and Reverend Joseph Yates officiating. Interment will be in Cypress Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. CDT until 7:00 p.m. CDT at Peavy Funeral Home. Donna Marie Cain May 15, 1927 - August 21, 2009 Donna Marie Sherman Farmer Cain died on August 21,2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. She was born May 15, 1927, in Los Angeles, CA, to Olga Conrath Sherman and Leroy Edward Sherman who preceded her in death. Donna worked for the Civil Service Department of the Army and Navy Finance for many years and as an Insurance Underwriter Manager for ten years. She married Herbert V. Farmer on June 1, 1947; they were married for ten years. Then in October, 1958, she married the love of her life, James William Cain. They were married for 43 years. She had no children of her own. Both Herbert and James preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Gardina of El Cajon, CA; several nieces and nephews, and some very close friends who will miss her dearly. At Donna's request no flowers, please. Donations may be made in her name to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 1275 Fairfax Rd., Salt Lake City, UT 84103-4399. Mr. Pierce Conway Cain - (The Anniston Star)
ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mr. Pierce Conway Cain, 88, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Brandon Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Cain died August 24, 2009. Mr. Cain worked for the State Vocational Rehabilitation Service for several years before becoming President of Harry M. Ayers State Technical College, now the Harry M. Ayers Campus of Gadsden State Community College, in 1965. There he built a college that changed students' lives in this area. He served his community by being active in the Rotary Club, AEA, and the NEA. He was very instrumental in the founding of The Opportunity Center and served as a board member for many years. Mr. Cain also served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Helping and serving others was always where his heart was. He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry Cain. Mr. Cain is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nelwyn Cain, of Anniston; daughters, Linda White and husband, John, of Anniston, Deidri McBrayer and husband, Brian, of Hiram, Ga., Janet Moore and husband, Tom, of Anniston, and Sherilyn Turley and husband, Michael, of Anniston; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John White, Michael Turley, Brian McBrayer, Ben King, Kevin McBrayer, Tom Moore, Thomas Moore, and Daniel Moore.

It might be worth considering a Y-DNA test so that you will be able to actually confirm in any Cain "relations" found are actually your family line. Cain is a reasonable common surname, but from several different sources in different parts of Ireland and the Isle of Man. Each clan has a different Y-DNA signature, if you check the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine

I am the honorary administrator of the Cain DNA project so I can keep an eye out for these folks. Co Galway is the 2nd biggest county in Ireland, so to narrow the search, do you know whether your Cains came from Connemara (west Galway) or from East Galway. If you don't know that, we can tell from their DNA privided you have a male-line Cain relation to give a DNA sample.

The 4th biggest O'Cathain (now Cain, Keane) clan represented in the Cain DNA project are the Cains/Keanes of Connemara and Mayo, i.e. the area around Westport. So quite possibly you already have some kinfolk working on this at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine. If you have a male-line Cain whose Y-DNA results match with these folks in the Cain DNA project, then you will receive a listing of their names & email addresses. That's how I made my biggest breakthrough.

I don't have any direct link to the names and dates given in your enquiry, but there is a small and growing group of us Cains/Kanes/Keanes/O'Keanes that have matched up as a DNA group from the northern Galway (Conemara) and Mayo County areas. Check out the "Cain" project group at https://www.familytreedna.com/ . The group's administrator, Rory Cain, is very healthful in clarifying "all things Cain."
