Hi,
My name is Neil Caines. I have just started tracing my Dad's family after he unfortunately passed away in March of this year. His name was George Thomas Molton Caines. He was born in 1922 to Frederick and Ada (nee Molton) and was the youngest of 10 children. His Dad was the oldest of 10 and Arthur was I believe one of the youngest of them!
I have conflicting info at the moment about my Dads Grandad - either George or Frederick married to Esther Wiltshire. He was actally born in 1882/3 in Bristol (St George or Barton Regis).
From my records I have your Granddad having 6 children - Arthur, Ruby, Barbara, Terence, Maureen and Phillip.
I hope you are still researching as I could use some help!!
Hopefully this is the same family line, in which case hello Cousin!!!

Hello,
According to the 1920 census information, George Caines was born in 1890. He lived in harlem with his wife Mary; and at that time 3 children, Thomas, George and Loiuse.
He also lived with his 2 brothers Samuel and John W. Caines.

Samuel is my Grandfather. He was born in 1895 and was married to Gertrude. They had 3 daughters, Beatrice, Hortense and Olga. Hortense is my Mother. I never had an opportunity to meet Samuel Caines. They were born in Saint Kitts.

Stuck on Richard being born in 1753 in Ireland (Job born in Virginia)....can't find any immigration information.
Hi there,

I may have asked you this before, if so, bear with me!
Okay, I have James Jackson Caines b-1857, marrying a
Sarah J. Francis. In 1880, they have one dau. Martha
M. Caines b-Dec. 1879, acc. to census. In 1900, James
is married to someone else, a Millie, I believe. I
have a Sarah J. Francis marrying a John Maynard. He
is listed without Sarah, with4 kids. One of them being
a James Jackson Caines, 18 and single. He is the one
who married Louemma Francis. Louemma and Sarah are
aunt/neice.
Now, in the Ky birth records, there is a Hester A.
dau, of John Maynard and Sarah J. Francis. Hester was
born 29 Aug 1894. Moving forward, I think two of John
Maynard's children listed with him in 1900, are with
Sarah, as well. They are Ireland, (male) and Carry B,
female, b- 1890 & 1891 consecutively.
Okay, that said, I also think that there were two other
children of James and Sarah's scattered around Pike Co.
farmed out to various relatives. Martha M. is of course,
listed with her folks in 1880. Then there is James, who
is of course, living with his father. There is one more,
a Mary E. Cains, who is listed as James Francis' gr-dau.
No other children married a Caines (sp) that I no of,
from James Francis' children. (James Francis had two
wives, but of no consequence in this situation.
Do you get all this, or are you completely confused. I
know there was alot of "goings-on" with unhappy
marriages back then, so I have taken that into consideration. I had read or seen somewhere that Sarah
has died before 1893. I wonder if someone in the present
just assumed that, or if someone from the past actually
knew that! Let me know that you think. I sure could
use some brains in this outfit, because I'm fresh out!
Di

I am very excited to read this! Makes my research alot easier. I'm fairly confident that I am a descendent of John Caines and Sarah Samms.
John and Sarah had a son Richard who Married Elizabeth BATEMAN and had a son Alexander (sandy) who married Elma PAYNE who then had my grandfather Newman Caines.

I have more information if anyone is in relation to any of these people!

Hi Vicki,
I just posted this over on the Caine Message Board and then came over here and saw your query so I'm posting this over here also.
Hope this gets to you or you are still looking for CAINES.

I continue looking for any and all descendents of Job Caine who lived in KY during the time period of: late 1700 to early/mid 1800's.
This is what I know about him at this time:
b. possibly in Ireland about 1761 and died in Potters, Lawrence Co., KY. Potters is no longer listed, but is about 2 miles north of Louisa along US 23.
Job m. Elizabeth [???] and they had 2 children that we know of:
Thomas b. abt 1789 and Clarissa b. abt 1791
Thomas m. Candace Borders
Clarissa m. John Chaffin (these are my ggg-grandparents!)
> James Milton Chaffin m. Mary Frances Sanders
> Jesse Marion Chaffin m. Clementine 'Tina' Adkins
> Jesse Hubert Chaffin m. Ruby Blankenship - my maternal grandparents.

I'm also looking for Thomas' descendents for my mother's cousin's wife as I think Thomas was her g-grandfather

This is what I know so far:
Esther was the d/o Jim Jones & Ollie Jane Caines of Potter's, Lawrence Co., KY.
Ollie Jane was the d/o Hiram Caines and Frances 'Fanny' Salisbury.
Hiram Caines Jr was the s/o Hiram Caines Sr & Fances Nancy Arthur.
Hiram Caines Sr. was the s/o Thomas Caines & Candace Borders.

My problem is that I've only found 1 marriage for Hiram Caines Jr and that was to a Luvenia Summers.

What I know from Esther is that her grandmother, Fanny Salisbury and her sister Mary, both married brothers - Caines...I have Mary Salisbury already in my database m. to William Henry Caines who was the s/o Hiram Caines Sr & Fances Nancy Arthur.

I can't find any marriage record for Hiram Caines Jr and Fanny Salisbury BUT in the 1900 Lawrence Co., KY Census I do find Fanny Caines (a widow) with her 3 children:
James W. b. May 1886
Ollie Jane b. October 27, 1889
Edward April 1890

With those dates it means that Hiram and Fanny (as Fanny was listed with her parents in the 1880 Census) were married sometime between 1880 & 1885/6. And that Hiram died between 1890 and 1900.

If anyone has any information OR is connected somehow to any of these names please contact me.

Thanking you in advance!!
Lynda Davis-Logan
Ona, WV

Researching Family Roots....

My Grandmother was Florence (Caines) MacLeod and my Grandfather was Charles Alexander MacLeod. I have been trying to research my root for some time and keep hitting some brick walls. I know the Caines originated in NFLD and the MacLeod, Scotland to Cape Breton. I am trying to find some information on my Grandmothers side, Johnathon Caines and Martha Champion. I have very little information to go on and the family never spoke too much of any of them. If anyone can help or has some information they can share it would be great. Thanks
