I'm looking for more information about the Cairo family from Italy.
The information I have goes back 3 generation, but for various reasons, the documentation I have is inaccurate.
My father was named James Edward Cario, he was born in New York.
His parents were Annunziato Cairo, who came to the US from somewhere in southern Italy in 1888. Annunziato's wife was Annunziata Ferrara.
Annunziato's parents were Vincenzo Cairo and Theresa Gencarell(i/a/o ?).
Annunziata's parents were Vincenzo(?) Ferrara and Filomena Simurro.
Family tradition states that the name originated when an ancestor came from Egypt.
Family tradition also states that we are somehow related to Francesco diCairo, the painter.
Oh, and I remember when I was very young back in the 1950s that one of my aunts or uncles wrote to an "uncle Michael" back in Italy.
Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim Cairo
