Aberdeen Scotland Caithness Family Members

My G-G-Great Grandfather's name is John Caithness, born in Aberdeen around 1858.His wife's name was Jane. They had atleast 4 children: Walter, Jane, Flora and William. William is my G-Great Grandfather. He was born in Aberdeen in Dec 1882. He married Charlotte Moir, also from Aberdeen, and they came to America in 1909. If anyone has any info on these people, it would be greatly appreciated! :)

My family came from Panbride and Carnoustie. My great great grandfather was William Caithness he married Issabella Anderson Paton. They had the following children; George Alexander Paton Caithness, Alexander Caithness, Isabella Jessie Caithness, Jean Ross Caithness and Agnes Petric Caithness - are these some of your family as well. My family emigrated to Australia and ended up on the Darling Downs.

We have an Alexander Caithness b.10 November 1870 who died at Livingstone Hospital Rhodesia on the 30 January 1929. He is the son of Isabella Anderson Paton and William Caithness. His siblings were George Alexander Paton Caithness, Issabella, Jean and Agnes. Would this be the same Alexander Caithness?

Bill sent me your e-mail. I have been doing more research than he has. Do you know the parents of Margaret Caithness? My gggrandfather was George Cross Caithness born 1802 St. Mary, Dundee, Angus. Married Mary Martin 23 Dec. 1830 in Arbroath, Angus. He die 7ith April 1868 Dundee, Angus. His birth and death certificate show father as John, mother unknown. I cannot seem to find any sibblings. I found 2 Margaret's, one born Feb 1815 Arbroath, Angus parents, John and Jane Caithness. Second one born May 1823 Arbroath. Parents Thomas Caithness and Elizabeth Paterson. Write me Lynne (Caithness) Bernier

I notice your roots are from Dundee. I am trying to get more information on Margaret Caithness who married Robert Mundie on 04 Jun 1839. Do you know if she is in the info you received please?

Hi Lynne. Your uncle Charles was my grandfather. I remember Stuart and Winnifred when I was a child. I think your father passed away in the 80s. A couple of years ago I recieved some information over the internet which traced our family back to the 1820s in I think Dundee. I have to find it and if you like I will send it to you. I start with James Caithness marrying Susan Caithness 1789 in Panbride, Angus. Their youngest son Alexander bp 1803. He later married Margaret Robertson 1828 in Dundee and was a master mariner. Margaret and he adult children all ended up in Victoria, Australia at various times but about 1850ish.

My GGfather etc. all seem to be John Caithness: my grandfather was James Caithness m. to Ida Coutts
GGfather was John Caithness married to Margaret McKinnon, GGGfather John Caithness married to Margaret Reid, GGGGfather was John Caithness married to Hattie McKay (Campbell). Does any of this sound like you lineage. Awaiting your reply

Hi, My dad is James Martin Caithness, Born July 5, 1906 in Carnoustie, Scotland. His father is Alexander Caithness married to Helen Carver Robertson on November 27, 1903 in Dundee. There were other children, Charles, Winnifred and Stuart also born in Scotland. Alexander Caithness died around 1920 from cancer. The rest of the family immigrated to Manitoba, Canada around 1926 to join Helen Robertson's brother over here. I can't remember a name even though I met them. If you could help me find out any information please let me know.

I am decended from an Elizabeth Caithness, of Dundee, born 1815. She was the daughter of John or James Caithness, shipmaster. Elizabeth married Alexander Cathie in 1833 and they both emigrated to Victoria in !854 on the Boomerang. Does this ring any bells.

Further to my previous posting, I have at least two separate CAITNES/CAITHNESS family lines in my ancestry. They are:

James CAITNES m. Margaret PATERSON (probably at Panbride, Angus - date unknown)
Their son, Thomas CAITNES, b. circa 1720, Panbride, m. Agnes REID, Panbride, date unknown
Their daughter, Helen CAITHNESS, bap. 22nd Apr., 1747, Panbride, m. Robert BISSET, 15th Sep., 1776, Panbride

AND

James CAITNES, born c. 1665 m. Janet WATT (probably at Panbride, date unknown)
Their son, John CAITNES, bap. 8th Dec., 1696, Panbride, m. Jean WATT
Their daughter, Jannet CAITNES, bap. 12th Oct., 1726, Panbride, m. Alexander SCOTT, c. 1750, Panbride

I have various other CAITHNESS notes, dates, etc.; I will be glad to share these with other researchers, and am always on the lookout for new CAITHNESS information.

My 4G Grandmother was Helen CAITHNESS of Panbride, born circa 1747, who married Robert BISSET on 15th September, 1776 at Panbride. As yet, I haven't been able to discover who her parents were; they were either Thomas CAITNES & Agnes REID, or James CAITNES & Barbara LYELL.

Is anyone else researching this branch of the CAITHNESS family? I'm happy to share information with other researchers.

I am researching my family history in the Robertson line in Dundee and keep meeting up with Caithness names back as far as 1797 some marrying some obvious friendships my great great grandad was a ships carpenter.

Sorry it has been a while since I have got onto this site. Unfortunately none of that at this stage rings any bells. There is nice little tangled web of CAITHNESSs in Panbride/West Haven and Dundee and trying to sort them out is difficult.

Also researching my family tree, discovered a lot of Caithnesses came from Lochlee, which is in Glenesk, Angus.
Cleared out in the Highland Clearances.

Jim Caithness (my namesake) was the old postman in Glenesk. He still lives there.

Write to Jim Caithness, Retired Postman, Glenesk, Angus,
Scotland. He is a wealth of information.
