Hello Lorraine.

My father was David Cake born in Godshill IoW, son of Stanley Cake {IoW} and Beatrice Smith {of London} son of Frederick Cake and Elsie Dyer, son of Charles Cake {buried in Niton IoW} born in Tolpuddle, son of William Cake Tolpuddle, son of John Cake and Betty Parker married 1799 Tollpuddle. to which then is a long list going back of unjoined up Cakes that are spiderwebed across Dorset that lead back to Marytavey Dartmoor, residing for about two hundred years; from which has a possible named connection of a Jonis Cake from Norfolk.

I am in possession of Frederick's Silver fob watch which still working, bears his name as also to a scratched date of 1901.

Anyway it seems a while since your last search, but hope you are still out there, or if there is anyone else, -

John.
New Subject: Mucher family roots

Hello Ralph Mucher,

This is just a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if you might have any information at all on John (Johann) Mucher who, I think, is your g-g-grandfather. According to census records and other sources John Mucher was born 23 Dec 1830 in Germany, immigrated to U.S. in 1837, served in the 16th Pa. Cavalry in 1865, died at Lykens, Pa. 7 May 1915.

A copy of his death certificate is attached. There is no information about his parentage, and that's the stone wall I've run into when researching his line.

John Mucher is also my g-g-grandfather. My dad was born John Alton Mucher in 1910, and then adopted as John Alton Calaman in 1911 after his biological parents divorced. Dad and his father, Harrison Mucher later reunited with Harrison living next door to our family in the 1950s and 1960s.

John Calaman
There are at least 6 strings of Cake that have not been tied together. There are more people with a last name of Cake than you can imagine. I am from the clan out of Pennsylvania. There is a clan or two in southern USA, at least one in Canada, and at least one in California area.

I do not have your name anywhere. Sorry. You will find Cake records in all the wars, in census records, and on many lists.

Good luck
Cakgen

We proved this was correct by his Civil War record
which clearly written on the record. There is a Harry Ludlum Bush. He is the nephew to Henry. His brother Lenoard Lyons Bush' son. Henry and Ann Louisa are buried in Mt Zion Cemetery in old Nansemond County. Now the city of Suffolk, Virginia.Would like to hear from you. Gale

Hello, Rod,
Nice to hear from a fellow Cake family researcher, my particular interest is in the Cakes, and who they married.
My decendant line is from a Richard Cake, but in Winfrith Newburgh, Whitcombe and Winterbourne Came all in Dorset.
I had a quick look at Beerhackett and found a Richard Cake bap.27/06/1791 son of James and Rachel Cake could this be one of your ancestors? Plus a few more children and more Cake marriages.
Have you heard of www.opcdorset.com this is the on line parish clerk, for all the villages and towns in Dorset which gives births, marriages and burials, I say all, alot are still being transcribed. Loads of info, really good site.
Also I have my tree so far on a site called www.genesreunited.com with some 1400 names with a possible 4000 to add from notes. This is a site which you can build your family tree and also make further contacts.
I sometimes go to the Dorset records office in Dorchester as I live in Somerset.
If you think you are related to Henry Cake and Mary Humber I will be pleased to send you the info, but I will check my notes some more to see if I have anything specific as I do have notes on ancestors going to Newfoundland.

Regards Carol
ps. I have trouble using this site, it's mega slow, my email address is: Ckcraignair@aol.com
Do you know what information is usually recorded?

I live ony 1 1/2 hours from Huron County Records, in Michigan. But I will not be able to visit there until summer. I just can't figure out what info may be recorded on these papers.

Well, it is exciting to meet you

I have had no more time to find more out.

Is there a was to learn what you have about him? Do you know if he married again?

Rose

My Great Grandfather was John Henry Dyer. He was born 1875 on the Isle of Wight, England. His head stone says he was born 1872. He died March 8, 1962, in Michigan. I do know that he had a hook as one of his hands. He and my Great grand mother were divorced. They had 5 children. This is all I know about him.

Joan - Thanks for the reply. My husband does descend from David Cake and Margaretha "Peggy" Saul. We inherited a photo album from the mid-1800's and Margaret Hand's picture is in there. We are trying to figure out where she belongs in this family. We thought we had the Margarets covered.

My husbands line is:

1. David Cake born 1755 and Margaretha "Peggy" had Margaretha born May 24, 1777 who married William Sholl/Shull.

2. David L. Cake born 1788 m Mary Margaret Leake. They had Margaret born June 29, 1823 m Henry Woodford Davis

3. Francis Collins Cake, Sr. born Nov. 9, 1820, moved to Hannibal, MO m (1) Rebecca Alice Woolfolk (died, no children). m (2) Mary Myers

4. Francis Collins Cake, Jr. born Jan. 8, 1860 in Hannibal, MO m Lydia Natalie Kunkel/Kunkle

5. Margaret Busby Cake, born April 28, 1887 in Hannibal, MO m Charles DeGuy Hyden in CA

6. Ethelyn Natalie Hyden, born Aug. 18, 1916 in CA m Harold Graham

7. David Graham (my husband) born 1941 in CA

Any help very much appreciated. Would love to resolve this riddle. Thanks. Pat

Hi, Pat-

The CAKEs of Cumberland County, NJ are connected to the David CAKE found in the following family tree:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:316989...

David descends from a Salem County NJ family whose name was originallly GOCH/GOCK.

The early records for this family can be found in St. Joseph's RC Church Philadelphia.

The records don't indicate who David's parents are but do list the marriage to Margaret (a Protestant) and list the children as David born 14 Mar 1779, James, born 31 Dec. 1784.

It is quite possible that David's father is Adam GOCK/GOCH and that his mother could be Adam's wife Catharine. Adam remarried in 1760 after Catharine's death to Mary Gras.

Lawrence GOCK, son of Adam married Christina GEIGER in 1767. Christina is the granddaughter of my ancestor Matthias GEIGER which explains my connection and interest in this family.

Joan

It was great to hear from you. 13 brothers and sisters - WOW! Odds are pretty good we may be related :)!My grandfather - John Cake - passed away in 1985 after a heart-attack and two strokes. He would have been about 73-75 today.I hope your dad is doing well. At 84 he must have a book full of stories to tell, I'd love to hear some. My E-dress is jimcake@home.com - take care and talk to you later.
Jim
