I have just discovered the above is my gggrandfather.Ihave been searching under Capewell .It seems the family assumed the name about 1889 not legally.He married for the second time in1886.To aRose Adelude Worrall Inshaw .My grandmotherViolet was born to them about 1888 and a son John 1889.Any info anyone.

I read your post regarding the Cakebread family. I have a Percy Clair Cakebread in my tree married to May Louise Stengel, daughter of George and Louisa Anne Reese. He was born in 1891 and died Feb 1975 in Beadle Co, SD. They were married 24 Dec 1913. I have limited info on their five children, one of whom is still living and would be happy to share.

There is a genealogy library in Hertfordshire, they did some nice work on my families and it was not too expesnive, it might be worth contacting them and seeing if they can find anything.

I knew a Brian Cakebread, well known snooker player we used to meet up at Willie Thornes Snooker Centre Leicester. He was born in Leeds Yorkshire and lived most of life in Leicester. Died 2008 Leicester aged 69. Sadly missed.

I have been dna matched to someone with an Elizabeth Cakebread
dau. of Thomas Cakebread in his tree.Thomas's father was a William Cakebread.My relative who is related to be through my g.g.g. grandparents Eliza Chambers and James Dorman(lived in Yackandandah,Australia) who I had dna tested matched with another person who has a Mary Cakebread dau. of Thomas and Elizabeth.Looking on Tribal pages these Cakebreads came from Herfordshire but I have not received an email back from from the dna matched people yet.

I'm researching a Frances Hannah Cakebread who married Abraham Hunt 23 Jan 1826 at Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London who according to later census records was born abt 1802 in Harlow, Essex.

The only records I have found so far are for a Frances Cakebread born in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire a couple of years earlier but as Harlow and Broxbourne are a short distance from each other and on the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire and the surname is quite rare, these may be the same person.

Any help or information relating to the Cakebread families in this region / period would be appreciated.

could there be any connection to Harry Cakebread died 1923 in York,Ontario or Lily Cakebread died also in York ... I think date given was 1919.... Ontario eath records

could he have been born in 1870's to Thomas and Mary Cakebread in Manhattan.... my Thomas (often called Harry) seems to disappear from the records after birth of a child mid 1890's..... did he go west ?

I lived next door to Harry Cakebread and his wife in Ware between 1943 and 1955, are these your relatives. I do not think they had any children but Ware is only 20 miles from London.

I don't know if you can help me I am trying to locate Alan and Debbie Cakebread they lived in Thornborough, Buck's but have moved away they would be early 40's. Alan is a cabinet maker and Debbie worked for the Post Office. I dont know if you have any links to them.

I am able to trace my history to Samuel Charles (I) Cakebread and Sarah.
However i have his son Samuel charles (II) married to a rachael not Ann Susannah Glover. Can you confirm this? if so it seem's there was a bigger family than i thought!
Samuel charles (II) had a son Samuel Charles (III) who i am decended from.
I would very much like to find out more of your side of the family tree.

son edward marr mary elizabeth bowser they had maud, albert, alice, ivy, leonard, rueben, and eady.
1 branch now lives in canada.1 in australia, 1 in grays thurrock, essex, 1 in southend, essex and 1 in basildon, essex.

Not sure if you are looking for ancestors or descendents - there is an Edward "Cackbread", age 13, in the 1861 census in Harlow, Essex.

His mother was Elizabeth Cackbread,a widow age 40, born in Herts. Edward's siblings were Mary, Emily, James, and Ann (the youngest child, age 3) so the father must have died between 1857 and 1861.

Just doing a family tree, re the cakebreads, my mother-in-laws mother was James H Cakebreads sister. Perhaps you could give me any info you have . He had also had a sister caroline, Ellen was my mother in laws mother, Isabell, and brothers James and and Tom. They were all born in the eastend of London.

Hi Dorothy and THANKS!! Who will I find on the 1881 Census? I cannot check - the site is down for maintenance. Here's my problem: the death certificate stated my gr grandmother was Sarah Cakebread, said she was a widow and names her husband as William Meekings. Born in 1879 ish she would have been 24 or so in 1901, with a one year old (named Dorothy but was perhaps Sarah Dorothy) There looks to be a Sarah Sr. Sarah Jr. and baby Sarah. And was she living with William and Sarah Meekings in 1901? Did she marry Francis Cakebread and did he die? And then she married William Meekings? Its 1:30 AM and maybe I am just tired. Would you be able to help me with this?

In 1901, Sarah Cakebread age 24 is a Widow. She has a daughter Sarah age 1

They are living with William age 49 and Sarah age 49 Meekings and family.

Sarah Meekings m Henry Francis Cakebread Mar quarter 1899 St Saviour.

I am researching my CAKEBREAD name particularly in the areas of Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Oxfordshire in England. My own line is shown on my web site www.cakebread.org.uk
My "brick wall" is Robert CAKEBREAD around 1776 at Bloxham, Oxfordshire, England who married Elizabeth WALKER. I am interested in collecting information about any of their descendants (or ancestors).
My web site also mentions Robert CAKEBREAD, born 1838 at Bloxham who later emigrated to California in about 1856, from whom are descended many bearers of the family name.

Finally I can confirm the UK links,but of course I'd like to pursue further.
My gt gt grandfather Thomas Cakebread, born about Dec 1835/ Jan 1836 in East London, was the son of Samuel Charles Cakebread and Ann Susannah Gover.
They were married May 27, 1821 at St Dunstan, Stepney, London.
Samuel Charles Cakebread was the son of Samuel Charles Cakebread and Sarah. He was born Nov 8, 1800, Bethnal Green, London and christened Dec 7, 1800, St Matthews, Bethnal Green, London.
I've got a fair amount of info from the IGI files and feel I can identify many sisters, brothers, ancestors, children as they stayed many generations in same area, likely due to their "professions"... linked with weaving, hat-making...
Thomas married first Elizabeth who died in USA in 1865.
Apparently had 1 or 2 sons with Elizabeth (James, William)
He married 2nd, probably in New York City, Mary Mongomery (or Mcneallen ???) born in Belfast, Ireland.
Children of Thomas and Mary = Matilda, Thomas Henry, Joseph, Susan (died young ?)...
Interested to exchange any info on UK Cakebreads.. and to validate my conclusions with others.

nota : Thomas was first married to Elizabeth ............... who died in 1865, New York City, buried Woodlawn cemetery in Brooklyn. He may have immigrated to USA alone or with Elizabeth.... maybe as early as 1850's... but no Cakebreads found in New York census for 1850.

Thomas died 1883 in New York City. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Mary died Jan 16, 1911 in New York City, Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, maiden name = Montgomery (descended from Scots who immigrated to Ireland in 17th century, likely from Renfrewshire, as part of move to populate Northern Ireland with Protestants...
Looking to share further info on descendants and ancestors.

it would be more useful if you state birth and death dates, place of birth and death, spouse name.... in that way I can keep an eye out for matches when researching my own lines or check again some offline data that I have on hand.
my cakebread ancestors most likely immigrated to USA (New York) in mid-1800's... from England.... though Thomas Cakebread's wife Mary was born in Ireland.
I have found some data in the Census records. Other Cakebreads seem to center around California.

century one finds the Cakebreads mainly in East London
and in Hertfordshire and shires around London... if
only they had been more creative with the family names..
My gt-gt grandfather born probably in 1840's - I expect
in England - was also named Thomas ...with a child named
Henry !!! would be easier to cross-check data if you grouped all your info
onto to a single query on the Message board...names,
dates, places... like where in Hertfordshire ?
I have noticed some fairly 'creative' spellings on census and
other records in the USA - strange for what seems to be a
fairly simple name

don't believe I have an info for you... but I do believe that my great-great grandfather Thomas Cakebread was probably from London area (East London or near Ware ???). He was in hatmaking industry. He likely went to USA in early 1860's.

I am desperately trying to trace my fathers family tree in the uk his name is Arthur John Cakebread born 14th July 1947 he is the oldest of three brothers his brothers are James (Jim) Frances Cakebread and Alan Bernard Cakebread. My fathers parents are Arthur Cakebread "deceased" and Francis Emma Cakebread "deceased" (My Grandparents) My grandmothers maiden name was spencer she had several brothers and sisters but unfortunately i only know of three brother who were Bernard / Jack and Sam Spencer. My Grandfather also came from a large family but again i only know of two brothers names who were George and Joe Cakebread, i originaly come from the london area which is where most of my family originate and can only presume that many of them and their families still live there.

I am very desperate to trace my family tree as far back as possible and as many and any marriages and other names that they may have married into.

Where are you based? Have you been unable to find your grandfather's marriage and birth on the Index of BMD for England?
It shouldn't be too difficult for the time frame you are talking about, assuming he was registered as Thomas Henry.

Rosie is my great aunt. She is my grandmother's (Prudence Peck - now Brown) younger sister. And I have family information that leads back 5 or 6 generations on her family. She was born in Alpena on June 14, 1889 and passed away on her 35th birthday in 1924. I can't give much information regarding her siblings but if you would like some information on Pearl's children and grandchildren I can give you everything (which is a quite a bit) that I have on them.

My great grandmother is Pearl May Cakebread -- daughter of George William and Libby Jane (Lillie). She was born on June 14, 1889 and passed away on June 14, 1924.

She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Her brothers' names were Walter Lee, Chester Earl, Ralph, Gordan Harris, & Stanley Lenord. Her sisters' names were Bessie Bell & Percy Clair. Walter Lee had 4 sons by the names of Orie Marvin, Wayne P., Claude W., & Donald L.
