Calahan/Callahan - Brooklyn NY, Greenbush, NY, North Adams, MA connection?

I am researching the family of Jeremiah and Jane Gallagher Calahan/Callahan. They were the parents of Charles (1834), Owen (1835), James (1838), Jane (1842), and Isabella (1847). Charles was born in Ireland and the others in New York State, except for Isabella, who may have been born in Massachusetts. Jeremiah probably died between 1847 and 1850. The family lived in Brooklyn, NY from at least 1850 to the early 1860s when they moved to Greenbush, now Rensselaer, NY. The sons in the Callahan family worked as moulders. I have located historic newspapers on line that state family members visited relatives in North Adams, Massachusetts. Records indicate that several Callahans lived in North Adams. My goal is to establish the original home in Ireland. Many in the family believe the Callahans came from Co. Cork, but that is speculation. I am hoping someone recognizes this family.

I can't find anything about this couple in my records. Do you have any other information that would help me? Do you know when and maybe where they were married? About when were they living? That would help me know where to search. I do have a few Patricks in my family tree!

What info. do you have on your "Calahan" line . I go back to the Rev.War period . Their origins in America were in Pennsylvania . They spread accross the country . my brother is buried near Queen City, Texas . Some of the my line settled in Blonco, Co. and William Calahan (Calohan) was the 4th Sheriff of that Co. and later a County Commissioner . His Brother John was killed with the a Texas Regt. during the Civil War. Chuck Calahan

The Peter in this line died in 1880. He had a grandson named Peter who was also from Will County, Illinois. Let me know if you think you're part of our family and I can give you more information.

I don't have a clue as to the origins of "Quevia" Calahan's name...I'm told her mama was possibly part American Indian. Her father was a white man, and possibly was educated..."Quevia" sounds a little like latin to me, but I'm no latin scholar. Haven't looked it up in any name books either. If you find out, please let me know what you find.

I would be happy to compare with you, too. My grandfather was Timothy Francis Callahan. He was born in Memphis, TN in 1882. He came to Joliet around 1900. He worked on the Sanitary and Ship Canal when it was built. He married my grandmother, Henrietta Stewart in 1905 in Joliet. They had three girls Harriet, Lucille(my mom), and Annabelle. Annabelle is the only one who is still living. I'm anxious to hear from you again.

Thanks,
Barb

Calahan in Greenbush, Rensselaer Co., NY

I am researching the family of Jeremiah and Jane Calahan. They were the parents of Charles (1834), Owen (1835), James (1838), Jane (1842) all born in Ireland and Isabella (October 1847) born in Boston. I cannot find the family in Boston or the surrounding area in 1850 census records, but I have a Brookline, Mass. First Communion document for Isabella in 1857 and her death certificate also states that she was born in Boston. It appears that the family lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time of the 1860 census . All must have moved to Greenbush, Rensselaer Co. soon after. Son Charles married Catherine Kirwin of Greenbush and Isabella married John Cahill. I do not have last names of other spouses. I cannot locate any documents which give the home county in Ireland. The family assumes it was County Cork.
