Hello,

I am trying to locate information on Emar Calais. His wife's name was Felicia. I believe his father was Carmine. At some point, the Calais name became Kelly and Emar became Amos. Savannah Kelly (Sevena Calais) is my grandmother daughter of Emar and Felicia Calais.
Any information would be helpful.

Regards,
Alex

I'm helping friends named "Calease" with their genealogy, and they believe their surname was originally "Calais." Since they are Protestant, it seems likely that their original ancestor was a Huguenot. I wonder who can show me how to go about this.

Thank you.

Jerry Baker

I have the name given as "Jean Calis" rather than "Jean Calais". The origin of this name is from Italy--means chalice---goes through France, then Rotterdam and finally to Bristol Enland before coming over to America and ending up in Virginia and later N.C. What are the documents you have for Calais? The papers I have were given to me by my father's family.

The reason I asked how you found Benjamin Andrus without knowing Henry Wiliam Ritters Androus's name is because we hit a roadblock using Henry Ellsworth Androus. Benjamin's wife is Caty Calais, his father is Isaac Andrus b. 22 apr 1731 d. 30 jun 1824. Isaac's wives: Mrs Anna Spencer, Freelove Wilcox, Truelove Oatman, and Elizabeth Tracy (one at a time), Truelove b. 4 Jan 1755 d. 4 Jan 1804 is the mother of all the children. John Andrus III is Isaac's father and Ruth Gates is mother. Most of this info comes from Ancestry.com
Get in touch with me at warners@xmission.com

Hi there - Are we cousins? I'm at work, and don't have my reference stuff here. My father was Richard Leroy Androus. I'm doing this from memory so please bare with me! My dad's parents were Millard Fillmore Androus and Nona Z. Taggart. Millard's parents were James Edmund Androus and Sophia E. Sherman. James Edmund Androus was the son of Henry Ellsworth Androus and Amanda Hills. Henry's father was Benjamin Androus, who married Caty Calais. The Benjamin and Caty part I got from a document that I believe was put together by Shirley Reager. So, what branch of the family are your from?

This appears to be the same family that each of you are discussing.
Descendants of Jean Calais

Generation No. 1

1. JEAN1 CALAIS He married UNKNOWN WIFE.

Child of JEAN CALAIS and UNKNOWN WIFE is:
2. i. ELIZABETH MARIE CALAIS2 DUNELEAUX.

Generation No. 2

2. ELIZABETH MARIE CALAIS2 DUNELEAUX (JEAN1 CALAIS) She married (1) HENRE' DONELEAUX. She married (2) JOHN CALE.

Notes for JOHN CALE:
John was said to be John Chief Cucklemaker Cale. This Indian legend has been passed down through many descendants of John Cale; Baker, Cale, Dunston, Hoggard, Mizelle, Perry, Taylor and many others. It has not been proven as factual, nor has it been disproven. Local historian Harry Thompson has said that verbal history is greater than 90% correct when passed down through many generations with the same tale.

Children of ELIZABETH DUNELEAUX and HENRE' DONELEAUX are:
3. i. HENRI3 DONELEAUX (ELIZABETH MARIE CALAIS2 DUNELEAUX, JEAN1 CALAIS) died Bef. 1805. He married UNKNOWN WIFE.

Child of HENRI DONELEAUX and UNKNOWN WIFE is:
i.
