Hello, I am also searching for my Calamia branch of family. My grandfather was James Calamia, Born @ 1903-06. His father was Joseph . They lived in New York. My grandfather James Joseph dissapeared in 1932 , he was in the military stationed at Fort lincoln in N.D.Ariival was 1927. He may have strted going by Joseph. ?? Please give any information yu can.

Calamia's of Palermo

I am researching Calamia's in Palermo, Sicily (and the US) who are related to me. I plan to be in Palermo next year, and would love to meet them if they are still there. Here is what I know of them:
Marianna Tomaselli & Guiseppe Calamia (son of Domenico Calamia and Giuseppa Sacco) had at least five children born in Palermo between c. 1892 and 1902:
They were CALAMIA: Lucia, Luigi, Umberto, Sante and Salvatore. I have not been able to definitively track them or identify any children of theirs from the usual databases (ancestry, etc.),.
It is definitely possible they didn't leave Palermo.
Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.

I am looking for any information on ancestors of Mary Todaro/Totaro, born 12/25/1876. Mary married Tomasso (Thomas) Chiappetta Calamia. At some point Tomasso's family decided to change their last name from Chiappetta to Calamia. So, when Mary married Tomasso, she became Mary Calamia. Mary and Thomas had the following children...

Aduenzia Cuccia and her son Girolamo Calamia

The SS India brought a number of people from Poggioreale to New York and also to New Orleans in 1890.

There is record that a Tomasso Calamia on that ship was married in Poggioreale to Audenzia Cuccia in
1888 and had a son there in 1889 named Girolamo. The ship's log states they were all three on the ship.

Apparently Audenzia returned to Poggioreale, because she is listed aboard the SS Nord-America which arrived in New York City from Palermo in 1906. She had five additional children with her, but I was not able to find birth records for any of them in Poggioreale. I am assuming that they were Tomasso's children and that they were not living in Poggioreale after Girolamo was born there.

Is there any family history that you know of that can shed light on this? Who is Audenzia and why did she and the children come to the US separately from Thomas and Girolamo and where in Sicily they might have been between 1889 and 1906?

I found a Tomasso Calamia in New York in the 1910 and 1920 censuses, but with a wife named Mary Titoro. Did Audenzia die between 1906 and 1910?

I am the 2nd great-granddaughter of Tomasso Calamia and Mary Titoro, yet am confused, as although I have done lots of research on my Calamia ancestors, I have until recently never heard of Audenzia and know nothing at all about Girolamo.

Any help would be appreciated.

The story I heard about Tomasso is he stowed away January 3, 1890, to New Orleans, on SSBolivia from Palermo.

I am related to the Calamia's two ways. 1. My father was a Calamia. 2. My mother's brother married a Calamia. My aunt and I have yet to find our Calamia connection.

I would love the WW1 draft info.

I have heard of many of the people you mentioned. Some I know the relation, others I have yet to make the connection.

Tomasso Calamia was born about 1865 in Sicily, Italy. He was married to Mary Titoro, also of Sicily. They lived in Hammond, Louisiana and had eight children:
1. Anatole "Nat" Calamia, born nov. 15, 1892
2. Annie Calamia
3. Rose "Lena" Calamia
4. Lillie Calamia
5. Sam Calamia, born June 8, 1903
6. Frank Calamia, born December 8, 1904
7. "Tony" Anthony Calamia, born August 3, 1906
8. Nick Calamia

Tomasso Calamia is my 2nd great grandfather. Anatole is my great grandfather. Anatole's son Thomas Calamia Sr. is my grandfather.

The stories I have heard is that Tomasso and is wife Mary were stowaways on a ship from Sicily into New Orleans.
What I would like to know is the pedigree of Tomasso Calamia and his wife Mary Titoro.

Hello .The James Joseph Calamia we are looking for was born around 1906 , In queens .He was in the service and stationed in N.D. in the 1930's.Married my grandmother Mary Rott and had my mother in 1932, Dissapeared around 1932.

Our grandfather, Santo Calamia, was from Gibellina, not very far from Alcamo. /guiseppi's parents are Antonio and Luigia Bernardi Calamari.

My brother Jimmy had called and told me about this message. I think you were talking to someone named Dawn and thought it was me. My name is Barbara Calamia-Lozano. But everyone for my whole life has called me Dee Dee. (thanks to my sister)
I too kept my maiden name because I loved my dad. (Thomas James Calamia) My brother is Jimmy and my sister is Christine. Tommy told me your Mom passed (my condolences to you and your family) it is such a shame because she was my first cousin but we did not really know each other well. All my first cousins are 20 to 30 years older than me. Growing up I was always closer to my 2nd cousins because they were closer to my age.
Oh , by the way I am 41 and will be 42 on April 9th.
Your grandfather "James" was my uncle. I remember him very well.
Jimmy let me listen to the message to left on his answering machine and he should be calling you back soon.
It would be nice to get together, when the weather gets a little nicer.

I have info on Calamari's in New Orleans but my Anthony shows he was born about 1899. I have the same Calamari/Calamari marriages as the others. Anthony's mother was Katherine Cervini or Cattarina Chervini. I am doing the research on the All family, Anthony's wife.

I found a Marjorie (Doris) Clausen born in Franklinton, LA. She married Alfred Joseph Calamia about 1935-36. Alfred had a brother named Thomas (Toby). Does this mean anything to you?

I just remembered my great grandmother's maiden name - Cassidy. I believe her first name was May (she married my great grandfather Calamia). My grandmother Marjorie Calamia - her mother's maiden name was Donnelly/Donnolly(?). I know her father's name was James Carroll. Thanks!

My mother's maiden name is Patricia Calamia (born 11/14/36). My maternal grandmother's name was Marjorie Calamia (nee: Carroll, born 7/12/12). When my mom was a child, they moved to 46th Street in Woodside, NY. My grandfather's older sister Mary lived in Yorkville, N.Y. Her married name was Zimmerman. She had 8 children (one, named Thomas, supposedly started a family tree). My grandfather's younger brother Tom lived on Riverside drive and had 3 children. Freida lived in Oakland, New Jersey (married name Buch - I think that's the spelling).

As far as I know, my great grandfather landed in Louisiana. I have no idea what year (I'm trying to find out). My grandfather James Calamia was born in New York January 3, 1913. He had a younger brother named Thomas, and 2 sisters - Mary and Frieda. Any help?

This is too weird. I remember you! I'm Pat's daughter (she is Jimmy Calamia's daughter). I remember your sister and brother, too. James Calamia was my grandfather. I remember your mother, father, Aunt Mary, Aunt Frieda, all the Zimmermans, etc. I have a 10 year old daughter named Kristen Calamia Barwick - I loved my grandfather so much, I had to get the Calamia in there somewhere. I am 43 years old now, and I work at St. Vincent's Hospital. I live in Ridgewood Queens. My sister Lori will be 40 in October (she has 3 girls) and my brother Kevin is 35 with 2 boys. My mom lives in Woodhaven Queens. Unfortunately, the only time I see anyone is at wakes. The last one I went to was for Joan (Jimmy's wife). I saw Raymond, Charlie and Joanne (and others that I didn't recognize. My mom keeps in touch with Tommy, Raymond and Jimmy Zimmerman every so often. How are you? How are Jimmy and Christine? Thanks for the response. My family name has been Daro for several generations now. It was changed to Daro from Masciandaro by my great grandfather, Fillipo Daro. He used to tell the family that they lived in America now, so they need to have an American name.

We have some information on the tree as far back as Severio Masciandaro, but not much more.

A brief synopsis:

Filippo Daro (married Angela Pipistrelli) son of...
Emanuele Masciandaro (married Maria Emanuella Suglia) son of...
Michele Masciandaro son of...
Eustachio Masciandaro (married Anna Maria Martemucci) son of...
Saverio Masciandaro (married Anne Centonze)

Unfortunately, I don't know very much about the Masciandaro family. My grandfather was Enrico (Henry) Masciandaro, and he came to America when he was around 11 years old. He didn't have any brothers that I know of, but he did have quite a few sisters. I believe he came from Abruzzi, Italy. He lived in the Bronx, New York, with his wife, Julie and my father Francis. My father was an only child, and his father died when he was 15, so I never got a chance to know him, and I never knew much about the Masciandaro family. Please let me know whatever you may find out while building your family tree, I am very interested in finding out anything I can about the Masciandaro family. By the way, I just have to mention this. I noticed that your last name has been changed to Daro. I find that kind of funny, because when I was a teenager (I'm 32 now), I was going to shorten my last name to Daro, which I obviously never did, and my friends used to tease me about it. Did you change the name yourself? Anyway, good luck and please let me know what you find out during your research, I really am very interested. Thank you.
