I have a relative, Duncan McCallum (b. 1824 Islay, Scotland), who was recorded in the 1851 census at age 28, living on 5 acres of cleared land on a 100 acre parcel in Sydenham township, Grey County, Ontario. I do not know when he sailed to Canada. However, I wonder if he was on the same boat to Canada as John Calder and Elizabeth Campbell? As a pioneer he would have to clear land quickly to survive and 5 acres could have been cleared in a short time. Assuming he immediately settled the land upon immigrating to Canada, that could put the voyage possibly in 1850.
