Her Father was another Hiram Caldwell b.1886 and his father was Marcena Caldwell.I got this information from the Middleboro vital records index. Ruth(shurtleff)Caldwell remarried to Alphonso Bliss and d. November 20 1920.

Thank You so much for all the information, it is greatly appreciated!

sharon

Sharon:

My records show that Hiram was born ca 1831 in Mass, the son of William Caldwell (b ca 1804 and d 1867 in Stoughton MA) and Susan Poole (b ca 1810 MA). They are in the 1850 West Bridgewater (Plymouth) MA census. William’s parents were Ebenezer Caldwell Jr (b 1779 Bridgewater MA and d 1849 Middleboro MA) and Betsey Howard/Hayward. The information I have is that Hiram and Ruth did not have any children, but obviously that is in error.

Ebenezer Jr's parents were Ebenezer Sr and Sarah Price.

I descend from your Ebenezer Jr's brother, John, and his first wife, Tabitha Hayward/Howard. I do not know how Tabitha and Betsey Hayward/Howard are related.

Jeanette
I'm working on our Caldwell family that may possibly tie in with yours. Our grandfather William F Caldwell was born in Kentucky and is duried in Vinita, Craig County, Oklahoma. His wife was Sarah, best of our knowledge, and I have found what I believe to be them in the 1860 census in Indiana. He was a Union Army Veteran. If this sounds familiar please contact me at dtfjord@gmail.com
Thanks, Terri

1860 - Adams, Decatur, Indiana
Wm Caldwell 44 KY
Sarah Caldwell 42 KY
Elizabeth Caldwell 20 KY
Luticia Caldwell 17 KY
John Caldwell 11 KY
Cinthy Caldwell 7 KY

The earliest documented record of (our group of researchers') John K. Caldwell is marrying Mary Pomeroy, dau. of Thomas Pomeroy of Franklin County, PA (Biographic Annals of Franklin County, PA) est. 1800. He is said to be born abt. 1775, either in Ireland or SE Pennsylvania (depending on which secondary record you read). He died in White County, IL abt. 1825 (1825 Probate Record), so no later documemnts to clarify his origin.

Finding documentation before his marriage has been the brick wall. Lots of suspects, but...

Chris Palmer

For the list,my ancestor, Timothy Caldwell was born about 1790, first known residence is Maytown, East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

We have no indication as to his parents or a birthplace.

We are certain that he was Scots-Irish, married a local girl (Martha M. Swords) in 1819, raised their children: Leah, Rebecca, Benjamin, Catherine, William, Martha A, John & Mary Elmyra.

Entire family migrated about 1845 to Millbrook, Wayne County, Ohio then about 1850 to Newville, DeKalb County, Indiana

If there are any similarities with your lineage we would appreciate knowing of them.

Norman C.

I'm not too clear that you asked me personally or someone else in the thread, but I'll answer. Alexander Caldwell was almost certainly from southeastern Pennsylvania, which was a large Scots-Irish area. He married Esther (or Hester) Rush, who was from Cumberland (later Franklin) County PA and near Chambersburg. Her father Robert was killed there by Indians in 1757, when Esther was a little girl. Alexander and Esther lived, however, in (W) VA, near the PA border in Frederick (later Berkeley) County, where they first purchased property in 1765.

There were numerous Caldwell families in the SE PA area and I haven't yet identified Alexander's parent family among them, or found that he was an immigrant himself. Could be either. An unsupported rumor has it that Esther's parents were from Derry, Londonderry, North Ireland, and that is not too unlikely, because many of the Scots-Irish who came over at that time were from there.

John "Caldwell" Garrison trying to find connection

"Caldwell" was middle name used for three generations of Garrisons. Richard Caldwell Garrison, born 1865/66 (North Carolina or Alabama-believe it to be NC)in 1870 Census Grant Township, South Hanover age 4 son of "Pony" Garrison and Ritta both age 40, Black, Farm Laborers.
Richard Caldwell Garrison again on 1900 Census in Pine Bluff Ward 3, Jefferson Arkansas living with wife and two sons in wife's parents household: Henry & Bettie Dunton. Wife's name Sophia. Their son, Richard Caldwell Garrison Jr was born in 1912 in Los Angeles. His son, my husband, is also Richard Caldwell Garrison.
Why Caldwell? Named for whom? The John Caldwell Garrison mentioned in this subject, was born in 1879 and was employed as a fireman for Swift & Co Refinery in Charlott NC per a Sept 12 1918 registration card. A nearest relative mentioned was Anna Alexander, sister of Charlotte.
Hoping that some link will lead us to possible slave owners of Pony (name changed on 1880 census to Quaker Garrison) Pony's father may be named Jack. Jack Garrison, age 65, is living with Pony and Ritta and children in 1870.
ALSO have found one reference to a female slave born in 1860 in Union County SC. Her name was Laura Caldwell and her slaveholder was George R. Tucker. This was taken from WPA Slave Narrative, Spartenburg, County, SC.

Any ideas or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

I need to dig in to all my file folders, I am certain I have a few things on your 2 Caldwell relatives. On your father's great grandmother do you have any names in his line you can share with me? Since I listed tha posting I have proven by deduction that my wife's great grandmother was probably not full cherokee (but part cherokee) and she was an unmarried daughter of John Temper Caldwell 1780-1860. I believe the two men you are looking for are in his tree. I just need to search my files.

Franklin Butch Crowder crowderfb@aol.com

Samuel Dwight CALDWELL obituary

Hi all,
I found this obituary in the Obits forum at GenealogyBuff.com http://www.genealogybuff.com/uco/

Samuel Dwight Caldwell
Samuel D. Caldwell, former Osceolan, died March 14, 2002, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Madison, Wis. He was 89.
He was born July 18, 1912, in Chicago to Isaac and Esther Caldwell. They were students at Moody Bible Institute.
Mr. Caldwell graduated valedictorian of the Osceola High School class of 1930. His father was pastor of the M.P. (Methodist Protestant) Church in Osceola during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The church, long gone now, was located on the east side of Main Street about a block south of the railroad tracks. The church along with other protestant churches in town held Revival Meetings for a week every year.
He graduated from Wheaton College and headed for St. Louis, Mo. to marry his college sweetheart, Lucille. He had hoped to support his wife as a chemistry teacher, but found himself digging ditches and learning how to build a house from his father-in-law.
In 1976, the couple moved to Madison, joined Covenant Presbyterian Church and continued to host international students through Madison Friends of International Students until Mrs. Caldwell died in 1987.
For 23 years after “retiring” Mr. Caldwell worked with the Meridian Group, staying in touch with the 250 employees through his personal correspondence.
In 1994, he met Emma Myer at Attic Angel Tower and they were married on Aug. 11, 1994.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his first wife of 51 years, was his sister, Margaret.
Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Emma of Madison; two daughters, Norma Madsen and her husband, Doug Madsen, of Madison and Suzanne Marshall and her husband, John Marshall, of Olympia, Wash.; two sons, John Caldwell and his wife, Mary Caldwell, of Castro Valley, Calif. and Burt Caldwell and his wife, Diane Caldwell, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Craig and Ruth Peterson of Carol Stream, Ill.; two brothers, Gordon Caldwell and his wife, Mary Caldwell, of Houston, Texas and Paul Caldwell and his wife, Ruth Caldwell, of Carbondale, Ill.
A memorial service was held March 23, 2002 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Madison.
Memorial contributions may be made to the endowment fund he hoped to establish: Hospice Care Staff Continuing Education Endowment Fund, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wis. 53711.

Other Caldwell data can be found at http://www.genealogybuff.com/data.htm#Caldwell

Hope this helps.
Bill
I'm looking for the parents (and possibly ancestry) of my great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin "Ben" CALDWELL. He was born on May 20, 1881 at Dadeville, Tallapoosa Co., AL. His date and place of death are unknown. He married on March 11, 1900 at Shelby Co., AL to Minnie Martha Ruth CALDWELL, born Apr 25, 1885 at Marshall Co., AL and died Jan 29, 1966 at Macon, Bibb Co., GA.

Benjamin isn't to be confused with another Benjamin I've found who was born on May 13, 1881 at Clay Co., AL and died at Dadeville in 1957.

If anyone can be of any help, it'd be most appreciated. I've hit a brick wall with him.

I'm looking for information of a female Caldwell probably born between the years of 1820-1840. She married William Malone Feltman and died at child birth or shortly afterwards. They had two children in the 1870 census... one one year old and the other one month old. The oldest name was Jacob Caldwell Feltman and the other child was later named Nancy Cummings Feltman (this child could have been named for her mother). Any help is much appreciated and I will gladly share the info that I have.

You have a lot of information right. This is Barbara Caldwell's daughter Renee. Keither was my grandpa. Mom passed away in August of 1999 and my dad Dennie Caldwell just passed away back in January of 2008. I vaguely remember your mom cause I only remember seeing her a couple of times. This is wierd that I have found family members on my mom's side of the family. I don't know if I have ever met you cause we have so many cousins that I can't keep up with them. Aunt Frankie and Aunt Dora have passed away too and so has Sarah Ann. I wish I knew how uncle Pedro is doing. I know Uncle Bill is not doing so good from what I have heard. Please write me back when you can.

I have this very large brick wall named Caldwell. I have a Caldwell George (born around the early 1800's)who came from Scotland and lived in Emmitsburg Md area near the Pa borader. I only have found one referance to him in a cenus that's how I know he was from Scotland. Where did you get the info you have? Would it be possible to get a copy of that info? He married Mary Cecely Riley from the Emmitsburg Md area. I think that might be how he got to live in Md. Thanks
Carolyn
