I am researching Francis Cale (b. 1888) son of John and Caroline Cale born in Herefordshire. John was a bricklayer and went to live in Leeds. Francis was in RMC in WW1 and was an ambulance driver. He was my great grandfather.

My mother was a Cale and born in Ledbury in 1929 a large family of 10 children. Josephine, Marie, Elizabeth, John, David, Gloria, Sylvia, Richard, and Joey who died when 3 of scarlet fever. Josephine the eldest was my mother. I believe her father was called Joseph and mother Marjorie.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Rachel E. Cale, 39, Indianapolis, formerly of Clifford, Ind., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at the home of her mother in Columbus, Ind.

Cremation is being planned. Arrangements were made by Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home, Columbus.

Ms. Cale was born May 16, 1964, in Muscatine, the daughter of Richard D. and Mary E. Holcomb Cale.
She was employed by Coca-Cola Distributors, Indianapolis.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Cale of Columbus; two sons, Cale M. and Travis S. Morin, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Richard L. Cale of Norwalk, Wisconsin.; aunts and uncles, Carol Holcomb of Letts, Margaret and Charles Meeker of Conesville, Robert and Janice Holcomb of Olympia, Washington., Bev and Larry Witmer of Durant and Jackie and Darell Terry of Tacoma, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her father.

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Richard D. Cale, 61, Columbus, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Services are at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home, Columbus. The body will be cremated.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mr. Cale was born on March 9, 1942, in Davenport, the son of Richard L. and Gertrude F. Watkins Cale. He married Mary E. Holcomb on Nov. 23, 1962.

He was a retired Indiana State Highway Department mechanic, a former Clifford town marshal and former member of the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard L. Cale of Norwalk, Wis.; a daughter, Rachel E. Cale of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Beverly Witmer of Durant and Jackie Terry of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren, Cale and Travis Morin, both of Indianapolis, and Dana and Robert Cale, both of Norwalk.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

CONESVILLE, Iowa - Mary Cale, 63, Conesville, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at her sister's home in Conesville after a courageous battle with cancer.

The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction is handling the arrangements.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

She was born May 11, 1943, in Muscatine, the daughter of Robert and Lucille (Elliott) Holcomb.

She married Richard Dean Cale of Davenport on Nov. 23, 1962, at the Island United Methodist Church in Muscatine.

She was employed at Cummins Engine Co. Inc. in Columbus, Ind. She was active with the Conesville Watermelon Days Festival and worked closely with the building committee for the new Conesville Community Center. She enjoyed sewing and reading.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Richard Cale, and wife, Kathy, and grandchildren, Dana and Robert of Norwalk, Wis.; two grandsons, Travis and Cale Morin of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Carol Holcomb of Letts and Margaret (Maggie) Meeker of Conesville; and one brother, Robert Holcomb and his wife, Janice and their family of Olympia, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husband, Richard; her daughter, Rachel and her mother and father-in-law.

No, his father was Thomas Cale (1849-1936). I haven't yet turned up an Alfred Edward, though I've got a couple of Alfreds.

Ernest Albert Cale (Birmingham) 1892-1947: Boxing records?

I am trying to work out how to locate any records to do with my grandfather's pre-WW1 life when he was apparently a boxer. He was Ernest Albert Cale, 1892-1947. He served as a bombadier in the Royal Field Artillery in WW1. His wife was Elsie Woodall, m.1917. The family lore is that he travelled to "America" (assuming this is US, but could be Canada) to box professionally under the name "Kid Curry"; and with the proceeds of his victory(ies), he bought his mother a sweet shop in Birmingham, which is where he was born. I have one old photo of him looking pretty hefty, with a boxer-ish build. Does anyone have advice on how to locate boxing records or any other ideas?

Worcester. Cale family members include Charles and Susan,
Charles Samuel, Eliza Jemima. They were in Worcester
from 1700s - early 1900s.

Same pronunciation; in fact, most often people want to spell it that way too. There has been some difficulty with my grandparents on that side; both died years ago and weren't very generous with family information prior to that. There is another relative that I hope to get information from...now I just need to write him.

I was born a Kaile, how do you pronounce yours, we pronounce it K-ale, I am Looking for my Great Grandfathers brother Charles Kaile and His Wife Beatrice, who sailed to America from England 1st September 1909, to New York. They sailed on the Titanics sister ship the Adriatic, under the same Captain as the Titanic, E J Smith. It would be great if i could find any relatives of his.

The John Cale/Cales in my family was buried in Preble Co., OH in 1834 and his son John Burnside Cale/Cales was buried in Tazewell Co., IL in 1874. So I am not seeing the John Cale you are looking for in my specific branch. Best of luck on your search.

Several of my Cale ancestors were born in Rockbridge County Virginia. I do not recognize Diana Cale. Most of my Cale ancestors ended up in Egdar County, Illinois.

the only names that look familiar in your list is Frank cale...and J. wallace Cale (j.w.cale, james wallace cale)married to Lorana. These two are my granparents..i lived with them when i was young...so i can promise you that my Grandfather had no brothers ..only sister cassie(c.a. huggins from Cali). Absolutely, Frank and Sue are my great Grandparents. J.W. Cale is my Grandfather Who was Married to Lorana Gibson. C.A. Huggins (Cassie Cale ) are one in the same. I have many photos of all these people if i was to ever dig them out of storage. After my Grandfather passed (1974) i remember my mother often exchanging mail with Cassie from California...but as far as i remember i had never Met her. Jacqueline are you from the Quad Cities.. I live in Bettendorf and actually i live in the house that my Grandparents used to live.

Well...surprising...i posted that Question so long ago..anyway ...i was talking with my mother and she says that James Wallace (my grandfather) never had a brother...only a sister and her name was Cassie...Now my Grandfather had a cousin named John...she believes but, i grew up with my Grandfather (James Wallace From Bettendorf...and i Know he had no brothers...as i was named after him...please respond

My sister and I were at the Davenport library today and printed off an obit for Sue Cale. She was married to Frank Cale. And the obit said they had a son name J. W. Cale and a daughter name Mrs. C. M. Huggins from L.A. CA. Could that have been Cassie? And could that J. W. be your grandfather? If so, I think that might have made your grandfather and my grandfather cousins.

In my grandfather's obit, it shows J. Wallace as a brother from Bettendorf.

Also when I was going through the guest book from my father's funeral (his name was Richard Cale), J.Wallace was at the funeral. There was also another Cale there but I can't remember his name. I was thinking it might be a brother.

John H. Cale

Seeking further info on my great great grandfather, John H. Cale. Born about 1834 in Virginia to unknown parents.

Found in 1860 census in Augusta, Virginia (Staunton post office), married to Lydia J., one child, Aurelius (whom I am assuming died before 1870 as I never find him again).

In 1870 census he & Lydia are living in Missouri with 3 children, Harvey L. (1863), Jasper Newton (1866, my great grandfather), & Adelia M (1868). All 3 children were born in Virginia.

John died in Henry County, Missouri in 1873.

Have been unable to find any other information. Does anyone have any thoughts on which Cale's he might belong to?

I am looking for information that would confirm whether or not John Cale, who is buried near Capon Bridge, W.V. is the father of George Cale, who resided in Guernsey County, Ohio and is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery there.
