My grandfather's brother Raffaele Conte born 1897 in San Tommaso, Caramanico, Italy married Ella Montecalvo in Rhode Island, USA around 1920. They had 4 children named Raffaele Jnr, Thomas, Joyce & Marie Conte. Please reply if you know of the above mentioned people.

This website is for the non-profit organization called "La Grande Famille de Procida & Ischia". If you joined the organization you could actually view the original records of your ancestors that are recorded in the church/parish registers.

There is a reasonable yearly fee ($50-$60 depending on the exchange rate) of course, but the funds go towards funding the organization's projects to collect, preserve and publish the records on the islands of Procida and Ischia.

If you are seriously interested in your genealogy/ family history it would be worth the small investment to build your family tree. The only other option would be to spend $2000 hiring a professional genealogist.

I have been able to trace my Ischian family tree back 5-6 generations to my 7th Great Grandparents including mutiple branches of the Calise family.

Calise and Monte

I'm looking for a Monte from NY. My G Grandfather is a Carlo Calise, m. to a Restituta Talierco (both born 1880s, Lacco Ameno) They had children Joseph, Anna, Concetta, Restituta (b 1921, my grandmother), John and Columbia. Restituta (1921) had a first cousin named Al Monte (in NY). Please let me know if you have any extended family members that might match.

I don't know if there is a connection, but did you know that there is a church in Forio called Santa Maria di Loreto that has some works of art by C. Calise and another artist named Di Spigna? I'm not sure if these would be relations, but it would surely be interesting if they were. Good luck.

Hello All,

There are a whole lot of Calise's from Ischia (also many still living there and in Naples proper). My grandfather was Attilio Calise, who was born in Casamicciola Terme and immigrated to US with his mother (Artemisia) and 4 siblings Maria, Arcangela, Michelangelo and Domenico in 1920. His father, I believe, was named Francesco Calise and was a sailor of some kind, I believe crossing the Atlantic more than one time. Artemisia's surname on the passenger manifest is given as Boccalone, and she traveled also with her brother, Ermengildo Boccalone. In addition to this nuclear family, Francesco's 19 year old nephew Umberto Ussia was also on board. I'm not sure if these names fit into anyone else's family puzzle, but I would be very interested to know if there are connections out there. I also know very little of this family and would love to learn more.

My father's mother was Antonetta Calise. She was born in Forio on the island of Ischia on July 6, 1879. I believe she was an only child and was sent to the USA about 1903 by her uncles after her parents died. She married Ralph Russo about 1906. Her parents were Guiseppe and Madellina Calise. I have seen many Calise's on Ancestry but I do not know if any are related. Are you in contact with relatives on Ischia? It's a beautiful island. I was there in 2005.

My mother's family are Calise from Ischia. They came to England and show on the 1911 census in Sheffield. My Mother's cousin married her second cousin (also a Maresca from Ischia) and went back to live there. My Grand mother is Rosina born 1915 in England - her parents were Stefano and Marguerita Calise.

Hi just came across this message board, my name is francesca calise my father was franco calise my grandfather was gennaro calise of the calise family from ischia. my father was born in naples i was born in milan 1967. as my father died when i was born and my mother brough me to england i have never met any of the calise family i too have been trying to find relatives. i have been to ischia and the calise name is everywhere, its not a simple task.

Do you know of anything more that points to a Norman origin of "Calise"? I know of a family named "Calease" whose ancestry is French, and of course Normandy is in France.

I may not be the Paul Calise you are looking for (or were back in 2000). I was born in Providence and have a sister Jo-Ann. No brother. Also, my mother's name is Helen. My Grandfather, Francesco Paolo Calise was from Ischia.

I just found a couple of your postings. Quick Q: Are you 100% positive about the info that you already have regarding Your calises/Eugene Nacci? Curious. I have a grandfather Eugene Nacci who apparently was an orphan & I believe that there was a connection to the calises in ischia as well. He grew up in Providence. I know there's probably only one or two other Nacci families in Rhode Island (I met a fellow who isn't related), so it shouldn't be hard to track down. Contact me if you have any q's. I found census info on the calises who were living in RI in 1910 elsewhere...

Not to discourage anyone about relationships, but...a little info that I learned from my mom and her Calise family regarding the Calise name.

My grandfather, Giovanni Guiseppe Calise immigrated to the USA in 1914. His father, Vito Mario, in 1910 before him. Vito brought his adopted son his natural daughter. Giovanni came with his mother and the rest of his siblings.

Back in the early 1960s, my grandparents took my mom to visit my grandfather's homeland, Forio d'Ischia.When they got there, Mom noticed a great number of Calise families on the island. She was told the name was like "Smith" in the USA. It is that common. As a matter of fact, Ischia and Naples area are the most condensed areas of Italy with the Calise name.

Now, I'm not saying we are not all related somewhere down the road, BUT...just not anywhere close to like the 1900s, 1800s, 1700s...maybe 1300. I don't know, but I can tell you that back in the middle ages Normandy ruled an area of what is now Italy called the Two Sicilies...or something similar. This area encompassed from Sicily up to Naples and included all the Islands off the coast, which would have included Ischia. This is of interest to Calise folks because I have been told the Calise name is of Norman ancestry adn origin.

I am looking for the family of Carlo/Charles Calise born about 1891 in Italy, who married Iren E. Malek, born in 1895 in Hungary, who changed her name to Lillian/Lillie Calise. Hello,
I have found the above family (+1 son & 1 daughter) in the 1910 RI census. It lists the 2 children as born in RI - but cannot hardly read it. Possibly Anna & Gartero???
It also lists Luigi as being a brother of Giuseppe.

It also lists Antonio Faleo as a brother in Law- presumably to Giuseppe.
If anyone know anything about this Antonio, PLEASE contact me. I would love to know if Grazia was his sister or not and what happened to this family

I'm sorry, but I don't think our families are related...although they may have come from Foria D'Ischia...there were many Calises there....did your family come to the States and settle in Rhode Island?

I am the grandaughter of Salvatore Calise. He came to the United States around 1901. He had a brother who also came over but at the moment I forgot his name. His sister Mary Louise also was here. Does anybody over there remember Salvatore?
