MUSCATINE, Iowa - Blean A. Calkins, 81, of Muscatine, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at his home.
Graveside services will be at Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Foote will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Calkins was born August 11, 1921, in Melbourne, the son of Anson and Matilda Tigges Calkins. He married Bonnie M. Wilson, on March 15, 1942, in Unionville, Missouri.
He was a member of Elks Lodge #304; Moose Lodge #388; and the National Sportscasters and Writers Association, where he held many offices including president.
He was a sportscaster for KWPC for 28 years and later worked at Hy-Vee.
Survivors include one son, Douglas B. Calkins and his wife, Vicki, of Muscatine; two grandsons, Clint Calkins, of Muscatine; Clay Calkins, of Muscatine; and one sister, Winifred Anderson, of Yreka, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1998, and one sister Carol Berthwrong.
