Matilda's parents were the Samuel Duffel, b. 1795 in TN and his wife who were living in Prairie Co., AR in 1860 along with their sons Joseph and Andrew. Matilda and James Callaham had come there from Morehouse Parish, LA in 1859, and Samuel Duffel and his wife and the other children had come from Madison Co., MS by way of Panola Co. MS where they were on the 1850 census. Another daughter was Delina, who was married to Mark Linch and remained in MS. Feel free to contact me. D. Burns

You might be interested to know that David Callaham (1758-1843) served three separate times as a Private in the revolution. He was a minuteman from Lunenburg Co., VA and was called up and drafted into the Continental Line. He served in the 6th and 2nd Virginia Regiments under Gen. Muhlenberg and Gen. Washington. He was at Valley Forge with Gen. Washington’s army, fought in the Battle of Monmouth Court House, and the Siege of Yorktown. After the war David lived in Campbell Co., VA and received a pension for his service as a minuteman and a soldier of the Continental Line. David is my 3rd great-grandfather and a real American Patriot.

Don Trent

Stuck researching James Andrew Callaham/Callahan. I was told the family is from the SC Irish Callaham family. James married twice. Children from first marriage were John, Shirley, Cleo, Bertha. Second marriage is my family line, his wife was named Laura possibly Loula/Lola Jane Jenkins/jinkins. James had the following syblings: Gussie/Augusta m. Maxwell, "Betty Cater", and a brother named Sam/Samuel. The family moved to NC (Ashe county) after CivilWar and changed family surname to Callahan. Native connection? .

I too am interested in one Edward Callaham. I know he was in Washington County, Va by the 1770's. He got a land grant located on the North Fork of the Holston River. There is a geographacic feature on the USGA geographic map Hiltons quadrangle called Callahan spur. I believe the featute was named after old Edward. A short biograpgy of Edward and his wife Sukey can be found in a book " Summers history of Southwest Virginia". I am nor related to the Callahams but I would be very interested in any information about this colorful character.

Dale

They are from around Anderson County, SC. Nickolas (or however spelled) would be my great great great grandfather. I believe that Nickolas's father was born in VA and died in SC, and mother born and deceased in SC. I dont know any names though. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

My David Callaham was born in SC about 1783. I have found my David in the 1850 census where he is listed as 67 years old and again in the 1860 census where he is listed as 77 years old. He was married to an Elizabeth Davis who may have married a man named Crozier before marrying David Callaham. Family lore has always said that Elizabeth was a cousin of Jeffereson Davis and her maiden name was Davis. My research has found evidence that her last name was Crozier when she married David.

Perhaps he was the son of a David that was born in 1766. Do you have any other details about this David? If so I will be happy to share further information with you.

Thanks, Judith Williams

JANE CALLAHAM MARRIED CHANDLER THEN BISHOP

I am researching my ggggrandfather James W. Bishop b. 3/16/1806 who married Jane Callaham Chandler b. 9/1/1806. Jane had one child, Ignatius M. Chandler b. 1832 from her previous husband William Chandler b.1802. All of these people were born in South Carolina and it appears they migrated to Rome Georgia and then to Marshall County Alabama. Chandler was born in Pendleton Dist. SC so I suspect Jane was from near there as well. It is not known what happened to Chandler or how Jane came to marry Bishop or if they were married before leaving SC or they met in GA or AL. Any information regarding this part of my family would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Tom Bishop
