Clara Olive Whitehead is in my records as having been born in Massachussetts as well as her father Charles born Dec 1858. Her mother was Agnes but I do not have a maiden name. She was born Dec 1860. The information I have comes from census records. I do not know of Native American lines through the Whiteheads but who knows? Email me at dardena@juno.com
What is your mother's name? Was I emailing her as well?

Gail

My great grandfather was also EHC. His grandmother was Clara Olive Whitehead and her father is Charles Whitehead of Bristol RI. Not sure if they're Native American or not and I'm not even positive that I traced everything accurately, but that's what I have. Clara seems to be a family name, just like Edward, so I think it's right.
I too have been curious about the Native American roots. Let me know if you find anything.
My mom, Marlene was EHC's granddaughter and one of the 3 daughters of his son, Edward. Her brother Edward died in 1980, right before I was born.

Hi my name is Jennifer Wilson. My Great-Grandfather was Edward H. Callow my Great-Grandmother was Gertrude McGee. I think you met my grandmother Dorothy Wilson back in 2000? up on Peaks Island, ME. I would like to know more about Edward's parents or grandparents if you have that info. I'm trying to put a family tree together and I'm unsure about the names. I'm also wondering if the rumors about there being Native American roots are true and if so from where. I've heard the names Drinkwater and Whitehead but I'm not sure where they are in the lineage. Thank you!

Hi all,

I have callows in the family but am having trouble tracing the line. There was a father Unknown Callow who had 3 sons (Jack, Harry, Unknown) and 2 daughters (Florence and Margaret). The father and 3 son's all fought in the boer war and all went to the Sandhurst Military academy. Harry married a Jessie Campbell who was Australian born. Anyone able to fill in the gaps for the family? I think Harry took a bullet during the war and died in 1934 of a heart condition.

Thanks for any and all help!

So is Edward, Sonny? I used to live in the 2 family house on Cedar St with Grammy Callow (Gertrude). My father is Daniel, Dorothy's son and he was the youngest as well. I was wondering if you had any info on your father's sister Clara G. Callow. I remember my grandmother was very close to her and I know she passed away a long time ago but I have no clue about dates or where she lived. Also if you know of anyone further back I would appreciate that info as well. Edward and Gertrude is as far back as I've got so far.

Hi Cousin Ron!!!
I cannot believe my eyes when I read your message! There was always family folklore on this side of the water about Alexander not collecting his pension that was due him because "a friend" was the only person who could vouch for him and that "friend" had left a wife and family behind in England! Here is a quote from a family page post I made several years ago when I began to suspect it might Nathaniel himself that was that "friend"!
"On the old site I found this while beginning to transfer files:
Gail Slade - Jul 29, 2006
Found an interesting item!

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983 Record

Name: Nathaniel Callow
Year of Registration: 1865
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Bolton
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page:
Now I have the marriage certificate for our Nathaniel in 1868 to Mary Lang in Fall River, MA, USA
There is family folklore that an English Military pension was not claimed because it would expose someone who had left another family in England. Is this evidence that that person may have been our Nathaniel? Was he married in England in 1865, left and then married Mary in 1868 in the states?
There is another Nathaniel Calow with a birthdate similar to ours but he is in Macclesfield and I pretty much traced him right up through the 1891 Census in England. This isn't him! Wish I had the wife's name!"
That post was done in 2006 on a private Callow and Lang family site I run with my second cousin. wait til he hears this! We had no hope at all of ever discovering "the other family" left behind!
I would like to invite you to join us on that family page and meet some of your American cousins. I have more information on the Prussia line and Edward, the father of Alexander.
Email me privately at dardena@juno.com with your e mail address and I can send personal invitation. There is a great deal of information and pictures you would gain access to I am so amazed I have tears in my eyes!!!

Gail

Hi,

I believe that my great, great Grandfather was Nathaniel Callow. He left a wife and son (Thomas) in England when he went to America. His Fathwer was Alexander Callow of Stock[port, England and I believe, but am uncertain, that his father was Edward born 1776 in the Isle of Man. Edward married a Mary Prusia who I believe came from Ireland. I have additional information if you are interested. I am based in England (Cheshire - originally Bolton Lancashire)

Ron Callow

John Richard Callow was the son of John William and just passed away on April 3, 2008 at Sarasota, FL. He was my uncle. John William Callow was my grandfather and Edward H was my great uncle.

Gail
