Ken,
Just come across your post some 10 years on. I am researching my ancestors James Calnan and Catherine Fitzgerald of The Passage,Co. Cork. Their daughter Eliza Cullinane (my gr/grandmother) was born there in 1859(c). She couln't read or write and married an Englishman (Samuel Joseph Thompson)in Brisbane, QLD Australia. I have only recently come to know about other siblings in Australia spread far and wide. The name seems to have been spelled variously as CALNAN, CALNON, CALLENAN,CULLINANE in this family across Australia. From my research I have found a WILLIAM PATRICK CALNON who I believe is likely to be a nephew of Eliza. He was the Mayor of Midland, Western Australia from 1962-1970. His father, same name showed up in WA and married there in 1907.
I hope it hasn't taken you a decade to discover this.
Anne
