The James H and Alexander Calvert described in this thread are my relatives. Several of them are buried in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Texas, Robertson County. I am so excited to get all this information about members of the Calvert family. I am inspired to finally begin the research that I started in 2001 and didn't complete.

I have photographs of the headstones.
I am sorry I have not responded to this listing in quite some time. All the information I have on the Calvert's of Alabama to Texas were from a family Bible or from Microfishe. My Great Grandmother was Martha Ester Calvert, I have her Bible, it was also Lot's first wife's Bible. She was the second wife of Lot Penrod. They lived in Texas, she was born in Alabama he was from near Russelville, Kentucky. Her parents were Lewis Calvert and Nancy Tidwell.

Hi,
I am stuck on this Isabel Calvert too.
I am researching my childrens Quaker family, the Kirks of Cecil County MD. Their ancestor William Kirk was married to a Robinson, who was a child of a Harlan who was a child of a Duck..from there it gets fuzzy but then ther is a Hannah Hoope and Ezekial Duck then a Isalbe Calvert, then Crosslands and Calverts. I dont know how accurate the line goes past the Harlan. Do you have any Kirks or Harlans or Robinsons? They are from Maryland and Delaware.

my great-grandfather was William O. Calvert who was married to Elizabeth Shelton. I know that they had several children; one of whom was my grandmother, Lucresa Adeline Calvert, who married James Roark. What I know of the family is that they came from Missouri to Oklahoma and Texas in the late 1800's

I am looking for Constance Calvert who married James W. McWilliams on July 29,1835 in Hardin County,KY I would like to find out who her parents were and who her siblings where as well as when (about 1817)she was born. The 1850 census shows James and (Cony/Conney) McWilliams in Macoupin County, ILL and the 1860 census shows James and Connie McWilliams in Mill Creek Township, Franklin County, Arkansas PO address Charleston. The 1850 says she was born NC? The 1860 says Tenn.and no question mark. Somewhere I saw her father listed as Joseph but can't confirm that. I hope I have given you enough to find something. One of their sons John B. McWilliams born in Meade Co or Hardin Co KY on June 27,1841 I hope you can find some information on this great great grandmother's family. Thanks Pauline Evans

My father Robert (nmi) Calvert, Jr. came
from Acrington, England. With his parents,
brother William, and sister Ivy around 1918.
His parents Elizabeth Jane and Robert (nmi)
Calvert, Sr. He was descended from John
Mercer who invented mercerized cotton thread.
John was given a gold coach which sat in the
Acrington Town Square from my father's
recollection. All are deceased. I have a brother,
Robert Alfred Calvert, recently moved from
Pawtucket, RI to Palm Springs, CA. Also my
brother David Parker Calvert deceased in 1993.
I was born in 1940 in Pawtucket, RI, where
the Calverts had moved to by way of Canada
approx 1918. Robert married Hazel M. L. Parker Calvert
in 1940. She is 91 years old and lives here
in Smyrna, DE, near me.

Hope you can find some connection. I was told
by my father that some of the Calverts from
his family had moved to the US long before
his immediate family came to America in 1918.
Perhaps a generation or two before??

Sincerely,

Carole Anne (Calvert) Lee

William Calvert of East Tennessee

I have recently started researching my Calvert ancestors. The family's oral history indicates that we are descended from Sir George Calvert (Lord Baltimore), but to my knowledge no one has ever been able to trace the line back to Sir Calvert. I have traced back to a William Calvert, born between 1756 and 1760 in East Tennessee (or possibly Ireland).

I was wondering if your research has uncovered any other siblings in the generations you've identified, siblings that might possibly descend down to William Calvert of East Tennessee. If you have a GEDCOM file of your Calvert tree, that might be helpful to me.

Thanks for all the wonderful information, including your biographies of Lord Baltimore and Captain George Calvert. They are fascinating.

Robert Goodwin

Hi,
I'm researching for a friend because my family is too new to the USA to have much of a searchable history. Her Peed line started in Mason, KY with the marriage of James Peed to Caroline Calvert. I wondered if they were related to George Calvert, Lord Baltimore so I went to family tree on ancestry.com and found Caroline Calvert and worked backwards from her father James (same first name as her husband) Calvert. Wow! The line stops in Yorkshire, England with Alan Calvert born 5 Sept. 1456. There's a disputed link with the Calverley family of Scotland. I tend to think they are not related. So, go to family tree and look for James Calvert.
Hope this helps.
Virginia

John Calvert, Yorkshire, England to my family

Hello!
I am researching my family's surname Calvert. The information I have came from a great-grandmother, Catherine Lindsay Knorr. I was very lucky she backed up her information with sources. Here is a lineage of what I have:

John Calvert of Kipline, near Danby Wiske in the Valley of the Swale, Yorkshire, England. His son:

Leonard Calvert Alice Crossland
Sir. George Calvert Anne Mynne
Gov. Leonard Calvert Anne Brent
Gov. William Calvert Elizabeth Stone
George Calvert Elizabeth Doyne (?)
John Calvert Elizabeth Harrison
Cpt George Calvert and Anne Crupper
Anne Calvert and William Lindsay
William Lindsay Catherine Sanford

William and Catherine lived in Virginia until his death in 1823. She then moved her entire family to Arkansas where that family settled. Catherine died in 1848 in Arkansas.

Would love to hear from anyone from this branch of the family.

Warmly,
Sara Greer

I too would like more infomation about Alan Calvert changing the name from Calverley to Calvert, it this line is even true. The research that I've done, doesn't make sense connecting it with the Calverley line. So I am to make sure that the information that I have is correct. There is no solid proof that I can find about him;Just what everone else says about him, that he was born on Sept 5th 1456 died 1477, but there is nothing else you can find about him. And his father Walter Calverley born 1433 from the information I have found on him, he had no son named Alan.

Re: Alabama Calvert Surname

We know a bit more than that: William Calvert who came to E TN came out of Botetourt County VA. There are two other brothers.

This William though, is not the William B 1757 M Elizabeth Nodding. Indeed, the two family lines have distinctly different DNA.

We were able to add extensively to this research and tie the Botetourt Calverts firmly together to the E. TN Calverts of Dewel's research(including Robert of Calvert Tx and also William Calvert m. Lucy Rogers.

There are several research files available at Calvert_Genealogy Yahoo group.

We are still puzzling the story together as to how this descends from Richard(EFO and Desc. of VA Calverts). More work needs to be done of course but I am confident that with additional research we can find evidence of how the Botetourt Calverts descend(RObert, James and William).

Incidently, one of our research members descends from Lydia Calvert and Cooksey. You might query the group on that.

David

Alexander had William Wheeler, 1744, Isaac c 1748, Alesxander Neale 1751 plus daughters, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Mary, and perhaps another. In the Census of 1790 Somerset is Demaris Calvert. I don't know who his father is but he is in the same area as the children of Alexander.

Alexander was probably son of William Calvert, Planter of Somerset where I found court records of him being sued for 1,000 LB of tobacco money in 1726 and 33. I have speculated that this William is the son of William Calvert b 1666 who was alive in 1696 as the executor of the estate of William Robinson in Charles CO MD.

THe similarity of naming the children is what catches my attention. EFO in Desc. of VA Calvert's does have a section for Alexander and Mary Wheeler Calvert. I had found the records for William Calvert, 1726 and 33 in Somerset, and at least link locale to of WIlliam to that of Alexander Plus Dividing creek. This makes sense then to link to Wm b 1766 and a son since William Calvert PSOM drowned 1682 in the Wicomico has perished at the doorstep of Somerset Co and especially the area of Dividing creek.

David

Isabel CALVERT b. c1607 Children?

I have found many sites that reprint Isabel CALVERT = John HOOPES, with children born after the apparent death in 1636 of her husband! Namely, Elizabeth HOOPES b 28 July 1638 and Robert HOOPES b 18 Aug 1639 [an important Irish Quaker merchant and my apparent ancestor]

It's also hard to find any reliable source dates for her birth, making it hard to fix her parents. Any STRONG clues?

It's crazy putting all this online when it's obviously impossible!! Can anyone, esp CALVERTs, help here?

Re: John Calvert, Yorkshire, England to my family

I am decended from Governor Leonard Calvert and have spent many years researching my family history. My daughter, Mary Rae Nieland, of Paradise, California is now picking up the 'torch' and is in the process of embrodering the family crest, the ships THE ARK and THE DOVE, the landing and placing of the flag on America soil with Indians looking on, etc, etc. She has finished about twelve blocks of her quilt thus far. I was amazed and excited to see it. I have given her all information that I collected, but I'm still vitally interested in anything that anyone could provide. Thank you. patcollins@bendbroadband.com

I think we may have some similar ancestry. My ggmother is Josie (Calvert) Underwood. I show her father as John Simon Calvert. Is that correct? If so, do you know who John's parents were? Would love to get further information.

Thank you for anything you can offer.

Re: Williamson County, IL Calvert Connections

David I intentionally left it open because I want to hear from anyone researching the surname Calvert in Williamson CO, IL.
However, they appear to have migrated through Georgia & Tennessee arriving in Wmsn CO ca 1815-1820. Very large family, John Calvert had two wives each bearing several children. His son John Newton married 3 times and two of them had several children.
Some of the names are David Carol, John Bunyan, Napoleone Buonaparte, Jerome, William, George Washington, James, Joseph Lewis, James Herman, Robert, Winslow, Albert,Cyrus & Rome.
Some of the female names are Mary Jane, Sarah, Emilie, Isabelle, Agnes Nancy, Sarah, Gertrude, Cynthia, Clarissa & Nannie. A nice blend of the usual with the unusual as well.
I have tried all of the traditional messages for specific people and now wish to hear from anyone researching these families as they appear to all be related.
Hopefully someone knows something about them.
Thank you,
Mary
