I am part of an Italian branch of Calvo. My father is Tony Joseph and his Father, who is the original --to my knowledge-- Calvo from Italy was Angelo Calvo. I know that there are a lot of us but I'm mostly just curious. My grandfather --Angelo-- Lived in Tennessee as do I and my father, and I just feel like putting together a family tree or something.

Help is appreciated!

Thank you for replying! I am so happy to hear your wife is a direct family tie to my family tree. I have been working on building my family tree for more than 10 years now and have always wanted to know more about the Calvo family. Is your wifes family from the Austin, Texas area? Yes, A lot of our elders that would know a lot of this family information have passed. My father passed away in 1986, but he left behind a number of journals and photos that I am currently in the process of posting to my website. Does your wife still have family living that remember my father? Once I post my photos I will send you an invitation to view.I am hoping others will be able to identify any families in the photos. I live in Michigan. I did not get your family tree link? You can contact me by email, esv5200@hotmail.com Thanks again!

Hi. Thanks for your reply. That is the right Tranquilino Calvo. I suppose your father was Ignacio Villalpando? My wife is descended from Tranquilino's son Eulogio Calvo.

I didn't get started looking into this part of my wife's family till just recently, so I missed out talking to a lot of the old-timers.

Most of my wife's family is unaware of their Guzmán stepfamily, so I don't have a whole lot of info in them.Any info you can share on them or the Calvos would be appreciated. I'll be glad to share what I have as well.

Thanks again,

Sam Bishop

Hi, I am sorry I am not familar with the Calvo surname but Tranquiliano Calvo was my fathers step-grandfather but in my fathers notes he references him as his grandfather. My father was born in 1903, so he grew up knowing this set of grandparents very well. I believe Tranquilino Calvo was born abt. 1869, in San Luis Potois, Matahula, Mexico. The same area both sets of my paternal grandparents were from. The last known US records of this family was Austin, Texas. I do not have info on the other names you mentioned but if any of the info I have provided here sounds familiar please email me at esv5200@hotmail.com Tranquiliano and my g-grandmother were married before, widowed. Have you tried the familysearch.org website? Lots of family info there, Mexico.

Hi, I'm from Costa Rica. I'm certain that our lastname origins from Spain since we have traced there our ancestors, and it is legend in my family that we are related to El Cid, an Spanish hero who fought during the Reconquista, a time when knights won back the lands taken by the moors. According to the story, El Cid married the kings cousin, making us descendants of the royal blood, even though very distant! I'm not sure how true this is, but we keep in our family an old rusted sword that has passed hands over long generations.

Hi

Sorry for the delay in replying. Could you send me your email address (as unable to retrieve it on here) so I can send you an attachment which is a copy of a drawing that Louis E (or G) Calvo did.

My grandmother Dorothy Frost served under the Joint War Committee of the British Red Cross and Order of St John during World War 1 from 1917-1919. She was a member of the Hertfordshire 32 British Red Cross Detachment based in New Barnet and worked at St James Hall V.A.D. Hospital, New Barnet, Hertfordshire, England. Dorothy had an autograph book which contrained poems and drawings from her friends, family, work colleagues and also from wounded soldiers from a variety of regiments that were recovering at the V.A.D. hospital.

Louis Calvo drew his regiment badge - The Royal Sussex Regiment and he signed it. He was a Lance Corporal, Signaller, 1/4th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, Worthing and the drawing is dated 14th July 1915 (so looks like she worked at Hospital prior to 1917 - unless he was not a wounded soldier and was known to the family!!)

So have now copy of this drawing on my computer in which I can attach to an email when have your address if you are still interested. Thanks

Suzanne King
Am looking for any information regarding my Grandfather's history. Guillermo Pedro Calvo (B)10 FEB 1901 (D)02 MAY 1990, from Havana, came to NYC by way of Ellis 1920 or 1921. Believe it or not, we have two green cards. I do know that he left a wife pregnant and a step daughter in Cuba to come to the US. Never went back for them, nor did they come here. He was married at least three times here with a number of children. My mother was an only child of his marriage to my grandmother Louise Bell Hinton-Smith.

Hey there, my grandfather came to the US in 1901. And lived in NY for awhile. He was known as a ladies man, and it is well known throughout the family that he had A LOT of children and was married several times. Do you have any idea what your mothers name would be? If her maiden name was Calvo, then I cant help ya. My mother was born in 1952, but her parents divorced in the 60's because he had an affair. His name was Guillermo Pedro Calvo (William) Calvo.

His father Gregorio Escandon was born in Sahuaripa around 1850. Is it possible that your mother comes from the same family line? Do you have info on your mother's ancestors dating back to the 1850's and before? I'm trying to find out who Gregorio's father was.
