Hello there,

So far, I don't appear to be related but I thought I'd offer some information I was able to find while researching Nova Scotia Camerons who settled in California:

John C. CAMERON was born 04 Oct 1855 (Alt year: 1854) and was a Machinist, later Engineer by profession. John became a naturalized US citizen on 07 Aug 1894 in San Francisco District court and died of stomach cancer on 10 Oct 1918. He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland.

John C. CAMERON married Wilhelmina KERR ON 21 June, 1882 in San Francisco and they only had one child, Blanche Maude CAMERON described in the other posts in this thread.

Wilhelmina KERR struggled with mental illness later in life and was declared incompetent in 1921 (Probate record: 31100). She died of heart disease 18 Nov 1834 (Probate record 68369) at the Greer Home Sanitarium in San Fransisco.

I believe John C. CAMERON is the machinist listed in the 1880 San Francisco census, living with an uncle, Angus CAMERON (1829 - bet 1910-1913) and his wife Margaret McKay (1832 - bet 1880-1900), both of Nova Scotia.

Children of Angus were Mary CAMERON (b. 1863) and Dr. Ida Belle CAMERON (1866-1933). Ida later adopted a child, Jean (Gene) CAMERON, born about 1916. Angus was naturalized at San Francisco in 1863. Mary only appears on the 1870 census so may have been married or passed away by 1880.

In addition to "Nephew" John CAMERON, machinist on the 1880 census there is "Nephew" Roderick CAMERON (born abt. 1851) and "Niece" Mary J. CAMERON, born abt. 1859. Whether they are all siblings or cousins in unknown but suspect further research on Angus will disclose the name of John's father, if the naturalization, marriage, death cert, etc do not.

Looking at the Nova Scotia Camerons in 1871 that might be a candidate as a fit for John CAMERON is:

Name: John C Cameron
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Birth Year: abt 1855
Birth Place: Nova Scotia
Religion: Christian
Origin: Scottish (Scotish)
Province: Nova Scotia
District: Queens

District Number: 194
Division: 01
Subdistrict: Caledonia
Subdistrict Number: f

Household Members:
Name Age

Charles Cameron 62
Margaret E Cameron 42
Mary M Cameron 18
John C Cameron 16
Patience Cameron 14
Charles C Cameron 12
Lucy Jane Cameron 9
William Cameron 8
Dorcus F Cameron 4

Cameron John Cameron 88
Hannah Cameron 92

I'm merely suggesting this family unit for further research at it looks promising. Curious to know if the John C. Cameron listed disappears from Nova Scotia by 1878.

I'm hopeful my information will be useful to someone, somewhere.

Cheers.
