Origin of Camp name

Glad to know DNA has provided some good proof. My own understanding is that the Camp family originated in Normandy, and came over with William 1. They would have had the French version of the name as ~"Champs" The earliest record I have found is at Leeds Castle in Kent, where a Simon Camp was keeper of the household to Eleanor of Acquitaine ( who was imprisoned there by her husband) Enquiries of Anthony J Camp, ex President of the Society of Genealogists confirmed this view. And of course the Normans originally came from Scandinavia - as Norsemen!
