WARREN – Joseph Campana Sr., 96, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, with his family at his side.

Joseph was born May 17, 1916, in Warren, Ohio the son of Donato and Rose Campana.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and retired in 1982 from the Warren City Street Department as a truck driver after 30 years.

Joe has made Warren his home since his birth in 1916.

He was a member of the WGH golf team, where the sport became a passion that he had enjoyed for his lifetime. His many accomplishments as an amateur golfer have been well documented in numerous newspaper articles and his vast collection of both trophies and plaques.
He holds well over 100 titles, including many earned in the Warren City League, and OPGA Seniors wins. He had served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Penn-Ohio Golf League, where he played as a captain for many years and also a team member spanning over four decades.

He and his wife have raised three sons, and have five grandchildren.

He had made five holes in ones was inducted in to the Warren G. Harding Hall of Fame and the Trumbull County Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed working at flea markets, dancing, fishing and telling jokes and had a great sense of humor.

Joseph served in the U.S. Marines and was a World War II veteran.

He married Ann “Betty” Campana on Oct. 21, 1939, who passed away Feb. 4, 2003. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Oct. 14, 1989.

Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph (Betsy) Campana Jr. of Brookfield and Robert (Susan) Campana of Bazetta, Ohio; five grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Jennifer, Alana and Antonio Campana; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Campana of Warren; and two brothers, Daniel (Mary) Campana and Robert Campana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Leonard “Lennie” Campana; two brothers, Ray and Alfred “Ed” Campana; and two sisters, Mary Natale and Edith Fancher.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Cartino officiating.

Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, OHIO.
