George Campbell 1778-1854

Has anyone had luck finding out who the parents of this George Campbell might be? He is buried with his wife, Caty Noland, in Ohio. Grave stone is clear and legible. It says he was born in New Jersey in 1778. Father and mother not discovered yet. George's mother remarried and moved to Kentucky. George ran off from his home at age 16. Any info would be appreciated.

Dick C.

I am looking for a 1900 census record of my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Campbell from Anderson, South Carolina. Her mothers name was Ollie Campbell. I do not know if Ollie ws ever married. Some say Ollie's husband was named Jim but I am not sure of that. Mary does have a sister named Annie Campbell. Mary shows up in the 1910 census married to my great grandfather Gordon Whitfield in Center, Townville, South Carolina. But I can find no record of her in 1900 with her mother Ollie. Please help if you can.
Thanks Cat

I have James Campbell b. abt. 1791 Londonderry, Ire.
He came to America as a young boy possibly 4 to 6 years old. Lived in BAltimore, MD. Was a bound apprentice to "Kestard" there as a sailmaker on Donnleys wharf.
He was in the war of 1812. Served on the U S S Constitution
"Old Ironsides" with Comm. Isaac hull
and served on the Constellation as well. 1814 discharged.
Also was with Jean Lafitte in GAlveston, TX. I noticed Jean LaFitte was also in the war of 1812. Wonder if they met there???
I know he had a brother. The brother I think was in Louisiana at one time. Do not know his name. No direct male relationship so no chance of dna.

THE MYTH OF JOHN CAMPBELL/MARY HALL NEILSON IN FAYETTE COUNTY, IL

THE MYTH OF JOHN CAMPBELL/MARY HALL NEILSON IN FAYETTE COUNTY, IL
There are a number of postings on the Public Member Tree portion of Ancestry.com which indicate that a John Campbell and Mary Hall Neilson are the ancestors of Fayette County, IL Campbell Family members (including George W., Josephus, Fillmore, David, John V.), who moved to (from Tennessee) or were born in Fayette County, IL. The postings indicate that both John and Mary were born in Antrim County, Ireland, and that Mary was the daughter of Robert Neilson and Elizabeth Hall. The postings state they are either “unsourced” (no supporting documentation), or refers to another Ancestry.com Family Tree (which in turn cites another Ancestry.com Family Tree) as the source.
The source of this erroneous data may be the book, “The Story Of A Dozen Generations”, by Rev. Orrin Wade Sidener, 1961. In his book, Mr. Sidener states that, “John Campbell was born in Ballenderry parish, Antrim County, Ireland in the year 1770-71, or could have been as late as 1773 and died 1834 in Otego Township, near Brownstown, Illinois. They came from Tennessee to Fayette County, Illinois in early history of that part of the State. Her married Mary Hall Neilson, b. March 17, 1773, date of death unknown. They first lived near the ruins of Portmore Castle near Glenary [Ireland]. Later took up residence near Lough Neagh Lake in Antrim County, Ireland. They had 10 children: -- 2 oldest were said to have been born in Ireland, oldest son in 1810 and in year 1812 their oldest daughter. However no records have been found of them for publication. They came to the U.S. in 1812 for their 32rd child George Washington Campbell was born in Knox County, East Tennessee on January 14, 1814, married Minerva Storm who was born July 22, 1817.”
The Rev. Sidener information provided on the John Campbell/Jane family after their arrival in Fayette County, IL is quite detailed and appears to be generally accurate. The only question is the accuracy of the Rev. Sidener’s information regarding John Campbell and Mary Hall Neilson as the ancestors of this Fayette County, IL Campbell Family Line. It appears that the Rev. Sidener either found, or was given the information regarding Mary Hall Neilson from the book, “Americans of Royal Descent”, Charles H. Browning, 1891. According to Mr. Browning’s book, Mary Hall Neilson (Pages 641-642) (daughter of Robert Neilson and Elizabeth Hall) of Antrim County, Ireland married John More Campbell of Antrim County, Ireland, lived near the ruins of Portmore Castle near Glenavy, and near Lough Neagh Lake in County Antrim, Ireland. [Sound familiar?] Came to America from Ireland and finally settled in Brownsville, Jackson County, IL where both Mary and John died in 1834 [not Brownstown, Fayette County, IL]. All of Mary Hall Neilson and John More Campbell’s children were female.

There was a John Campbell Family in Fayette County. My GGG-Grandfather John Campbell and his wife Jane (surname unknown) arrived in Fayette County, IL in the 1830’s where they spent the rest of their lives. Known children were: George Washington, Josephus, Fillmore, David, Polly Ann, Martha Margaret, Isabella, Elizabeth and John V.

If you are a a descendant of John and Jane Campbell of Fayette County, IL, please let me know. And, if you have an erroneous tree on Ancestry.com, you should consider changing it so that other find the correct information. Thanks.
The Campbells of Drumaboden House
To find the Drumaboden House drive to Letterkenny,County Donegal, Ireland and take the exit north on N56 to drive to Kilmacrenan, County Donegal ( about 6 miles or 10 kilometers). Turn right on R249. You will turn right on L6232. This road has some turns, but when the road forks, you are there. The Drumaboden House is on the curve to the left, but the entrance is now right before the curve. The main house, barn, and storage are only used for storage of animals or property. The owners of the new home before Drumaboden own the property so you will knock and ask their permission to wander. NOTE: the sign for L6232 is posted as you turn right so it is hard to see driving from Letterkenny towards Ramelton. If you do not see it, turn around as you will then see it posted on the right side of the entrance of the road. 2nd NOTE: If you look for the Wee Kirk built by Patrick Campbell in Ramelton,Ireland go to the chemist shop and ask for Robert Campbell. He was off on an errand when we went, but I believe he might know. Otherwise, just keep inquiring its whereabouts. It is a shell of a church with a cemetery surrounding it.
3rd NOTE: We did not look for a family cemetery around the Drumaboden House. If you find any headstones, please let me know.

Nora and Noah Campbell

I am trying to research the children of Sarah Carolina (Hyde) Campbell (b-7/22/1851 d-7/6/1938) and Sherrill Crawford Campbell (b-3/24/1848 d-4/11/1919). I believe they both born in North Carolina.
I have found two of, what I believe to be, their children that were born in 1871. One is Noah Campbell, the other is Nora Jane Campbell.
This is what I know....
Nora Jane was born 3/28/1871 and died 11-11-1949. The only birth info I have for Noah is a birth year of 1871. He is listed on an 1880 census, age listed at 9. There is no mention of a Nora. I find nothing else on Noah after that.
Then I thought that maybe Nora, was incorrectly entered as Noah, but the sex of the child would have had to be entered incorrectly as well. AND....I do find Nora listed in later censuses, as well as marriage and death information. (Her married named was Martin.)

I suppose they could have been twins...and that perhaps Noah passed sometime after 1880...but before 1900. I can't find a 1890 census, and there is no mention of him in the 1900 census.

Can anyone give me any additional information on these two?

Robert Campbell and Mary Cromwell

I've traced back my Campbell family to Robert Campbell and Mary Cromwell. Robert Campbell was probably in mid 1700's and had a son, John Franklin Campbell in 1811 possibly Georgia. They possibly lived in SC. I am guessing that Civil War might have caused problems with records. I am told that Robert may have been born in Scottland possibly Argyle.

John Franklin Campbell married Martha Bowman in 1834. John Franklin Campbell died in Curryville, Polk Co, Mo in 1881. His son, John Hughes Campbell, married Catherine Evaline May, and had a son Franklin Madison Campbell in 1866 in Curryvill MO. Franklin Madsion Campbell was my Great Grandfather.

If anyone has any records or details on the this Campbell family, please get in touch with me.

Franklin

My Campbells are:

Eva Campbell (b. 9/25/1861, Esperance, NY)
Alexander Campbell (b. 11/23/1829, NY)
Erastus Campbell (b. about 1801 or 1802 - in NY, PA, or CT)

Due to the proximity of Cherry Valley I was hoping there might be a connection... Do you recognize any of these names/dates as it relates to your data?

Isaac Marion was my gr grandfather's brother. My mother visited with her "Uncle Marion" when she was a child and played with one of his daughters. Isaac's parents were Samuel Pickens Campbell and Frances Ann Hand. All of their children were born in Grant County Arkansas. I have more information on the Campbell family. K
