I have alot of information on the Canaan family in the u.s. I am currently trying to put it in the computer. The Canaan family came to this country very early in fact one of them married a lady from the Mayflower group.Mostly they orginated from Penn in the mid 1700 then to Ohio 1820 Ill 18880s then to michican around 1885.

John Canaan was born in 1845 in , Hardin, OH. He died in 1923 in Sextonville, Richland Co, WI and was buried in Derrickson Cemetery, Willow, WI.
John married Hannah Jane Williams on 28 Aug 1864 in Shelby, OH. Hannah was born in 1849 in Sextonville, Richland, WI.

I have checked the Hardin co john canaans none have a wife with the name your looking for . There are two Johns in Penn Sr. and Jr dont have any wife names at first glance but have land records that usually list the wife. will check on those for you.

I don't have any legal documents but I believe James Albert Canaan is possibly my grandfather. My father William Elmor Canaan was born on January 30, 1902 in northwest OK and his father James Albert died when he was less than two years old. My grandmother Mary Evelyn Stapp went back to her people and as far as I know we have never had contact with my fathers side of the family. My sister picked up your Canaan Family History last evening and much of it matches what I have found but I can help you correct the family of George W. Canaan 1844-1916. He was my great grandfather. Living in Marshall Co., Indiana and having access to neighboring Starke Co. records, I can also clear up some of the information on the John Canaan jr. family. I would need your postal address to send copies to you.
I would also be interested in knowing where you were able to document some of the records of the earlier family in Ohio. I have been to Hardin Co. to do research but obviously need to spend more time in Ohio.
My grandfather was Edward and the family in Indiana often spelled the name Cannan. Bathia Hoffhein was his birth mother; George was married 1st to Rosanna Stevenson in 1866 in Starke Co. and 2nd to Bathia in 1869 in Marshall Co.
Cora B. Cannan was grandpa's sister and we're still trying to discover what happened to her. I am Historical Archive Manager in the museum in Marshall Co. and was able to find a record of her divorce from Hezekiah Sullivan and her marriage to Adam Smith. After the date of their marriage, Adam was committed to the mental asylum in Logansport but later released. We have indications from old newspapers that he may have lived in Michigan eventually and we have found also items telling of one of her sons from Michigan visiting family in Marshall Co. I'm wondering if you could possibly help me? I have a huge gap in my family tree from my grandfather, Francis Marion Canan/Canaan born 09 Feb 1906 in Knox, Starke Co., Indiana. I know his grandfather was John Alonzo Canaan who was born on 13 Sep 1852 in Knox, Starke Co., Indiana. His grandmother was Mary Canaan. Now this is were the gap starts...John A. Canaan evidently married two woman (1) Mary Etta (2) Marietta, 1900 Knox, Indiana census shows her as Mary Ella. Through one of these marriages my grandfather's mother was born, as to which one I'm lost. I know his mother went by the name Cora Canaan. Cora had two brothers, Fred Canaan and Floyd Canaan. My grandfather never really knew his mother well, and does not know who his father was as 'Cora' was unwed when she gave birth to him. My grandfather was raised and lived with his Uncle Fred Canaan in Knox, Indiana.

Please, I would be soooo appreciative of any help.

Ruth Canaan age 66 b/Pa. with her are, Hanah age 31, b/Oh.,
Lennia(Le_ _na age 15, Mary L. age 6, Eli age 34 farmer b/Oh., Caroline age 27 b/NY, John age 8, Emelin age 4, John
age 6. Did Caroline name two of her sons John?
Also, was this about the time or shortly after this family may have headed for the Wisconsin territory.
I'm looking for more info on John and Hannah Williams Canaan, believe Hannah def/b Ohio.

She died before 1870 because he then married my g g grandmother, Delila Hattery Reese who was a widow with 1 child.

Did your Cora Canaan have a middle name,
possibly "Belle?"
I think these might be the same woman, although I'm not
positive.
I was told that John Alonzo and Mary Canaan were Cora's
parents. After doing research on this family for many years
and NOT being able to find documentation that Cora Belle
Canaan is actually the daughter of John, I'm beginning to
wonder if she was actually his niece and he raised her.
George W. Canaan had a younger brother John. I
knew Cora had a brother and thought that John A. Canaan's
son Fred C. Canaan was he.

You said that Cora Canaan married Hezekiah Sullivan in
Marshell, Indiana 1891. I have a marriage index that says
it was Marshall Co, Indiana 1890. I don't have anything about
her 2nd marriage to Adam Smith in 1903 but I have a
marriage to James Louis Alberson in 1897 Starke Co, Indiana
which is a stone throw away from Marshall County. They also
had only one child, a daughter, Genevieve "Jennie" Alberson
born on Nov. 2, 1902. After that there is no sight of Cora
again until the birth of my grandfather, Francis Marion Canan
born Feb. 9, 1906. After that Cora leaves my grandfather
with Fred C. Canaan and disappears again until the birth of
her last 2 known children:
Clarence Everly-Canan b. abt 1910
Zelma Everly-Canan b. June 9, 1912
again leaving the children with Fred Canaan to raise.

Just wondering if this could be the case as far as her uncle
raising her or her living with him, maybe? It just seems so
strange that I'm able to tie most of the pieces together with
my Canaan Line except Cora B. Canaan. She's in and out of
Starke County like she's leading a double life.
How Confusing and Frustrating, ARRRRGH!

Don Cannon. I have alot of the Canaan histpry and ect Starting with your #12 Isreal Canaan and up to and including my son Daniel R Canaan. I have have many civil war pension records for most of ALL the Canaans . As far as I can tell the Canaans came from Penn to Ohio, Ind ,Miss Alabama ,Wisconson,Michigan,Washington ,Calif,Idaho Tons of records and just starting to put them in order
