I am looking for someone from the Canby line who might have a clue as to who the parents of Susanna Canby were. Susanna must have been an orphan. She is enumerated on the 1850 Pulaski Co., MO census as an 8 yr. old in the household of William and Nancy Malone. On the 1860 Bell Co., TX census she is listed as an 18 yr. old in the home of John and Mary Elliott. Susanna is my great grandmother. She married John White Smart in Burnet, Texas 3 Jan 1862. In a newspaper article announcing their marriage, it is stated that Susanna's father was Dr. _____ Canby [no first name] and that her uncle was Brig. Gen. Richard E. S. Canby. I have not been able to find any record of her is this line of Canbys. If anyone out there has any clue to pass along to me I would be very grateful.
