We've found a "long-lost" uncle, Marinus Francis Alfred Canning, in the Australian registered records, thanks to Betty Clifton. He was the brother of my great, great grandfather, Rafton Canning of London and Paris. Since this Rafton is such a mystery ("must have been a horse thief or something" one aunt who knows everything said), I'm looking for all clues as to who Marinus was, what he did, etc.
The registered records show several children were born after Marinus' marriage to Elizabeth Annie Morgan (d. 1926, Redfern, Sydney) in Tenterfield, NSW, in 1856. The only way we found them, though, was through the persistence of the genealogical researcher, because Marinus was often spelled in off-the-wall ways: Manners, Marcus, Maximus, but all with the middle initials FA and all married to Elizabeth A., so we're pretty confident it's the same Marinus.
The children are:
Ada L. A., born 1857, Tenterfield
Letitia E., b. 1859, Tenterfield
male, b. 1860, Sydney
male, b. 1862, Sydney
female, b. 1868, Sydney
Gilbert Henry M., b. 1876, St. Leonards, died 1877, St. Leonards
Gladys Octavia, b. 1880, Manning River
Algernon S., died 1930, Manly
Edith M., died 1867, Sydney
Ada LAA. married Chas Edward Hern in St. Leonards in 1877. They had children:
Henry C., b. 1878, Paddington
Edward Duplessis, b. 1879, Paddington
Jolande de R., b. 1881, Paddington
Edward Duplessis married Gladys E. Andrews in 1915 in Broken Hill.
This is the end of the information sent to me.
