Hello Tanya, thanks for responding. I have been researching my family based on the Kennon spelling while also reviewing any information about Cannon or Canon families. As I understand it, the two surnames are of different lineages, however were often commonly confused and mixed in earlier times. An ancestor of mine I have been researching is Richard Kennon who settled in the area called Conjurer's Neck in what is now Colonial Heights VA. I only recently verified my connection to him through my 4th great grandfather William Kennon who settled in Lincoln Co Tennessee in the early 1800's. Richard initially settled at Conjurer's Neck in the 1670's, I'm still looking into anecdotal evidence about whether or not he was born in England or in the new world. My interest is to identify who was who in those early days to distinguish the differences between the two families. A good source I discovered for the early Kennon genealogy is the book "Lewis of Warner Hall", the best I've found yet. I would be interested in any information you might have about your family in the Henrico area.

Dave

I do not have the Cannons you have mentioned in my data. However, I do have some information that might be helpful to you as a lead in finding other information.

Edward Cannon of Lower Norfolk Co, VA, d 1673. He and his first wife, Ann, had two children. He remarried Sarah Cabrieta(?). Their first child was named Thomas. Thomas died in Lower Norfolk Co, VA, abt 1684. The children named in his will were, Edward, b 1668, d 1701 (m Elizabeth Martin), Thomas, John, and Sarah. I have not traced the children.

Other children of Edward and Sarah were Edward (settled in NC), Dennis, James (maybe). I have not traced these children.

I have not worked on the CANNON line in 4-5 years. They are a tricky group. So many in the same generation with the same first name.

Sometimes, I read over postings on RootsWeb.com, Search Family Trees for possible leads or just google the person's name. Also, have you tried USGenWeb archives?

Good luck in your hunting!

Fran Chancellor

I descend from George Cannon who married an Ann Martha LNU 11 July 1820 in Frederick County, VA.

I am looking for a connection between Mary Cannon [1751-1827] who had children by JFW DesBarres from 1764-1785 and Ann Cannon [1818-1898] who married James Lockhart about 1848. As the Lockhart/Cannon family were in Falmouth where Mary Cannon was living at Castle Frederick, I think such a connection may exist. Do you know if there is such a thing?
