Thanks to help from members of this message board my brother Tom and I have been able to trace our Mexican "Cano" ancestry to the State of Tamaulipas. In doing so we uncovered the birth record of our grandfather Jose Francisco Cano b. Burgos 1889. From there we found our great grandfather Celso Cano married to Cornelia Loera (also spelled Olvera, Lara, and Luera) We've found all of the children from above except two of Jose Francisco's brothers (Guillermo and Tranquilino Cano ) We then found our Great Great Grandmother, Gabina Cano De La Garza b. 1834 in Cruillas and married to Rafael Silva de La Garza b. 1827. Through Gabina Cano de la Garza we found our great great great grandparents Guillermo Cano b. abt 1797 and his wife Merced de la Garza Silva b. 1802 Cruillas. Merced's parents were Jose Manuel de la Garza and Maria Gertrudis Silva. Incidently we found that Great Grandfather Celso Cano had a first wife Cayetina Trevino b. abt 1875. We haven't found anything else on her (except that they had three children)Our Great Grandmother Cornelia Loera's parent we Thomas Loera and Francisca Salinas.
Any information on the ancestors of any of these names would be most appreciated!!!!
Where do we go from here? I found an early report and census of the settlement of Reynosa written in 1757 titled Nuevo Santander. From this census we were able to find all of the surnames in our Mexican family tree. Can anyone here help us make the connection of our bloodline to these early settlers??? I look eagerly look forward to your replies...
Thanks, Roy Collins de Cano (de la Garza-Trevino...)
