Hi Randy,
I would have to ask my friend whose ancestor is Singster for his permission. It is not his direct line, I just got hooked on finding where they came from, since it is definitely not a French-Canadian name, and found William Singster is from "Lower town, Aberdeen) and married Marie-Therese Corriveau about 1782 somewhere in Quebec province. She died in 1786 and so far I have only found two children for them: Marie-Marguerite and Alexis. Alexis is proving very elusive, but seems to be the source of all the Singsters in the line I am researching. Is he a relative of yours?

I've been working on the Cantara family for a friend, and found Emilie married to Joseph Singster, whose ancestry was apparently Scottish. The name is spelled an amazing number of ways, from Saxter to Sangster, to Sixter, to Singster. They ended up in Fall River, Mass.

Has anybody traced The original Cantara back to Spain? I entered Mazaret into the LDS Family History Library database and the only one that came up is in Spain, not France.

Cheryl, I have extensive info on Bernardin on down as I was able to search records from FHL nearby and checked records from Quebec recorded by I think it was the Jesuits. I have numerous marriages as well as children of the couples. I even have a report about land obtained by Bernardin in Quebec. I would be more than happy to mail you any info you desire. My family still lives in Biddeford, I left when I married in 1966. I probably know your family. My mother was a Cantara and is still alive and healthy at 92 years old. We have very good genes....Denise

Although your message is a year old, I am new to the search, and I have info for you. Bernadin is also my ancestor, and I was also born in Biddeford. I have most of the same info as Suzanne, verifying Bernadin's birth year and place of birth, his marriage date to Petronille and her birth date and place. What I have that you may not is the name of Bernadin's father. It was Vite Cantara although I don't know anything else about him. Would love more info if you've gathered it since you posted this. Also, I know that Bernadin was a soldier of M. Duluth.

Cheryl

I grew up in Biddeford,Maine and married early 60's and moved away. My maternal side included Cantara,,,and there are many of them in Biddeford-Saco area. A great resource of information is the MacArthur Library in Biddeford I bet if you could get there you would be able to find information. There is a group that does Franco-American research out of that library, call the library and they can put you in contact with that group. Good luck.......

Hi! I am researching a similar mystery Saco/Biddeford Cantara and I will let you know if I can find anything. All I have so far is Marc Edward Cantara Jr. son of Mark Sr. son of ?? all we know is his he was called Pepe (grampa). There are some similar unfortunate circumstances (alzheimers) so it's hard to follow the line...but I will let you know anything I find. Take heart and hang in there, people post every day with whole family trees!

He was one of either 10 or 12 children. His parents were Lucy & Augustin Cantara. He had some brothers named Euclid, Leopold, Raymond, Albert, those are the ones that I personally met as a child. I was born 1/19/1949 in Naragansett. My grandmother was Ethel Hunt Cantara. She was a severe Diabetic who lost both of her legs. If your husbands family knows anything about these people I sure would like some information. Anything that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Lynne Mims

Hi Debbie,
I dont believe our "Rose" is the same. I know my Rose married in Johnston, Lamoille Cty, VT, to Joseph Audet. She lived her life and died in Morristown, Lamoille, VT. She also spelt her last name as Bouley, or Boulley prior to her marriage.
Thank you for your reply...would have been nice to found a connection...Sue

In reading the messages posted here, I noticed the name Marie and Maria a lot - pretty common I guess. I am searching for a Maria Cantara who is said to have been a member of the Blackfoot indian tribe in Saskatchewan. She married my great great grandfather, Olivier Girard and they had eight known children. That's all I know about her and would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Hi, I am searching for a Rose Bouley. She would have been my grandfather George's sister. She would have been born I believe in NH about 1909. Her full name may have been Rose Eva Bouley. She lived in Lamoille County Vermont for sure about 1920. Is this any relation to your Rose Bouley? (My grandfather changed the "ey" to "ay" in New Hampshire about 1915-but believe the rest of family kept the "ey".

Hi Karen, I have found my Rose Bouley, she is my gr-aunt. Her birth name was Rose Yvonne Boulay, born in Berlin, NH on June 1, 1908. Her fathers name was John Bouley and mother was Annie Labelle. They moved to Johnson VT about 1918. She married a Joseph Audet May 24, 1926. They had a lot of children from what I can tell. the parents and Rose Yvonne husband all died and are buried in VT. So far that is all I know about them.
My grandfather, George was a step brother to her and married and died in NH.
There were two other brothers, William Edward who I am still searching for. I know in 1920 they lived with sister and parents in Johnson VT. They went by the name of Bouley or Boulley. I dont know where they went after 1920
I am not sure if my Rose has any connection to the one in Rhode Island. All I know about her father John was that he was supposidly born in Island Pond VT, and he had no family that my relatives know of.
Your surname Cantara has not arised in my search as of yet, but maybe the info I listed will bring some connection to you...let me know,
Sue
