Sorry if this has been beaten to death previously, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for in the archives.

Do anyone have any detailed information on the family of Mary Cantey. It’s quite firm that she was previously married to William Jamison who died about 1766, that she married General Thomas Sumter about 1867, and that she died 24 Oct 1817. Her date of birth and parents, however, are less certain. The biography of the General on the City of Sumter, SC webpage says that she was seven years his senior, making her born about 1727, but I’ve also seen other birth dates as early as 1723, and as late as the 1740’s.

My ex-wife’s grandmother’s maiden name was Sumpter, and she was descended from the General’s brother William.

Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
