My grandmother, Leone Cantonwine Lee Flook (not Leona) was the second wife of Fred Flook. Both were widowers when they married, so Blanche must have been his first wife. My father (James Knight Lee, Sr.) had a stepsister, Freda, who was the daughter of Fred and Blanche.

You can find Leone's cemetery plot listing at the City of Colorado Springs Evergeen Cemetery site: http://www.springsgov.com/cemetery/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabin... and type in the name Leone Flook. Her plot is Evergreen Cemetery Block 00107 000021 000000 0000SW

Hi! I'm really confused! My cousin who photographed the Flook headstone in Evergreen Cemetery posted that photo to Findagrave.com....it shows J. Fred Flook (1882-1950) buried with Blanche M. (1888-1931). When I checked the CO genweb transcription of Evergreen cemetery it shows the same:
FLOOK BLANCHE M. 1888 1931 -076 (Bur w/J. Fred)
FLOOK J. FRED 1882 1950 -076 (Bur w/Blanche M.)
There is no listing for Leona/Leone Flossie or Flossie Leona/Leone at the genweb site. Can you tell me the URL for the website where you found her name? This is the URL for the Findagrave posting for J. Fred/Blanche: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Fl...; I have J.Fred's obit and it mentions neither Blanche nor Leone. Strange! Did Fred marry Leone after Blanche died?

I am the youngest child of James Knight Lee, Sr. whose father was Norman Jack Lee, the first husband of Leone Cantonwine. Leone died in Corvallis, Oregon and was buried on March 9, 1942 in the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs under the name Leone Flossie Flook (Evergreen Cemetery Block 00107 000021000000 0000SW. Her second husband was John Fred Flook....who I believe went by his middle name. He had a daughter, Freda, who died a few years ago, who also lived in Oregon (Portland area). She is survived by a daughter, Linda.

My grandfather, Norman Jack Lee, died in a parachuting accident in 1929 and is also buried in Evergreen Cemetery, as is his father Allen Lee. It would be great if your friend could also take pictures of these two headstones (Allen--Lot #5-057; Norman--00062 000086 000000 0000WC.

The cemetery plot location for Leone and Norman were found at the Evergreen Cemetery website....the information for Allen from another site.
Hello, I'm happy to hear from one of Leone's descendants! I am a Cantonwine researcher (3 yrs. now) The only person I've heard from re. Leone is a Karen Hart (in 2000) who said that Leone re-married a J. Fred Flook after her husband died in the 1929 parachute accident. Is that true? The only J. Fred Flook I could find in the Colorado Springs area was married to a Blanch Flook, who died in 1939. Fred died in 1950 and is buried alongside Blanch at the Evergreen Cemetery in C.S. So I haven't put much stock in the 2nd marriage to Flook idea as I also found no marriage record for them.

Which of Leone's 5 sons is your father? Can you tell me which Colorado Springs cemetery she's buried in? I have a friend who is willing to take photos in C.S. cemeteries and would like to get a photo of Leone's gravesite.

Hello, Steven, is your father Doug the son of Alfred Cantonwine (1927-1996)? I am a Cantonwine researcher and have been in touch (once, in May 2005) with Zelma, Alfred's (2nd?) wife. She passed my letter of inquiry on to one of Alfred's sons. I received a call some time after that from one of them who said he would send me information on the family but so far I've not gotten anything. I have a number of questions about the family....hope perhaps you can help me out if you're from this family. We share the same ancestor, Jacob (1815-1887)

Are you sure of the name HAWKINS as spouse of Alvira Cantonwine? There is only one Alvira Cantonwine that I know of and she married Wilbur/Wilber Hoag. There seem to be differences of opinion re. where the marriage took place on Apr. 3, 1867. A Hoag researcher says it happened in Winthrop Co., Iowa and a marriage record found on Ancestry.com says Grant Co., WI. Alvira was the daughter of David "Doc" Cantonwine and Huldah White. She was born Sept 4, 1851 and died 13 Dec 1934. Her husband Wilbur/Wilber Hoag died May 2, 1917 in West Union, Cass, MO. Since there were 17 years between his death and Alvira's, I imagine there might possibly have been a second marriage. Can you tell me any more about the Hawkins connection?

The Cantonwine family in the U.S. are all related to a Charles Kuntonwein that came to the U.S. from Prussia in 1803-1804. The family settled in Penn. later moved to Iowa, with branches moving to Colorado, Oregon and Washington around the turn of the century. I am not sure who painted the picture, but I would love to see a picture of it.

Julie Balestreri
My grandmother was Leone Cantonwine

Hello, Andrea, perhaps I can help you a bit with your father Raymond's family. If he is about 68 (born March 1, 1937?), then I'm assuming he is the son of Leland (1904-1954) and Marie (Mowbry/Moubry) Cantonwine (1904/05 - 1993) and has two siblings, Donald and Dale. If you'd like to learn more, get in touch with me and I can tell you about earlier generations and put you in touch with a cousin from his family line, the daughter of Lucille (Cantonwine) Sanders, Leland's sister. Stewart, born 1844 in Steuben, New York, married a Susan Cantonwine - daughter of - Jacob Cantonwine, between 1850 and 1860. They had two children, Nettie, who married E.T. Hoyt, and Alice Rose/Rosa who married Edward Lucene Wettzler/Wetzler/Wetzlar. Alice R. Stewart/Wettzler is my Grandmother, and her second to the youngest daughter, Gladys Mae Wettzler/Whittaker is my mother.

Hi, I know the Cantonwine line. I am a descendent of George. He had seven brothers and 3 sisters. The brothers are Jacob, John, Abraham, Charles, Samuel ( died in the Civil War), David and Michael. The sisters are Margaret, Catherine and Elizabeth.

I am searching for information about Charles, the Father. Came from Prussia about 1805. Married Mary from Maryland. Lived in Woodbury, Bedford Co. PA. Migrated to Iowa.

George married Mary Lewis, Linn Co. Iowa. Their children were Ada Amanda, Liberty, Hannibal Lincoln winfield Scott ( my great-great grandfather) Wesley, and Sylvania. They migrated to Washinton Territory. Walla Walla to be exact. And for me the rest is history. Found in the Walla Walla county history book.

Ada Amanda married John Scott. Had two children in Burnt River Oregon. They were killed by indians. They thought he had something to do with the murder of one of their own. The children were raised by George. Linc married Mary Emmeline Actor ( walla walla pioneer) and had Nellie (my great grandmother), Mary (died in infancy) Hallie, bessie and Robert.Robert's son lives in Salem Oregon.

Nellie married Cecil Keiser ( another pioneer family of Walla Walla). They had 4 children, Theodora ( my grandmother) mary ( died in infancy) L. D. and Eugene.

If you can add or share with me, that would be great.

Thank you

Georgia Akin
randjs@comcast.net

Cantonwine painting

I am trying to identify an artist named Cantonwine. I have a painting of the three sisters mountains in Oregon done in the late 1800's or early 1900's. There is no first name listed. The painting is very well done but none of my reference material lists an artist of this name. It is done in the Hudson river school so it may not be an Oregon artist. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt Wilder
