Did you find any information about Lillian Elizabeth Curtis? I believe she may be the mother of my grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Cantwell, also Lillian Mary Cantwell, Elizabeth Cantwell, and Joseph Cantwell. The children moved up to Dutchess Co, NY from NYC after being orphaned as children. I don't know of Frank Lorey. I believe Lillian Mary Cantwell married Frank Drake who was a steamboat captain on the Hudson River. Let me know if you think this is the same family.

Need help with info on James Philip Cantwell

I am looking for help with finding more information about my third great grandfather James Philip Cantwell.

He was born about 1845 in Ireland and arrived in the United States in about 1849. I am unable to pick up his trail until the 1880 US Federal Census in Callahan County, Texas. He is also found in the 1900 and 1910 US Federal Census in Erath Co, TX and Palo Pinto Co, TX respectively.

He married Mary Ann McAfee in about 1879 and shortly thereafter gave birth to the first of 8 children. His children's names were Frank, Joseph, James, Mary, Nora, Bernard, Rosa, and Emmett.

I do not know the names of his parents, but it appears he had a brother by the name of Patrick.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

in teh 1924 City Directory Stephen, Houston, Mark B. Cantwell, and Stephen's wife Mary are living at 1710 San Jacinto, Austin, Texas.
They are listed in the 1900 Cesus in Travis County, Texas, and in the 1910 Census they are in Hays County

Stephen was the son of William Carroll (W.C.)(b; 1828/1829? Arkansas - d; after 10 June 1886) and Nancy H. (Finch)Cantwell.(August 1828 either in Tennnessee or in Illinois - d; after the 1910 census.) They went to Missiouri where their first son is born, and then they were in Denteon Texas in 1860. Found on the tax rolls in Bastrip County, Texas in 1868, and then in Travis County, Texas in 1900. Nancy was living with the youngest son in Bastop county, Texas in 1900, and in Travis County Texas in 1910. In the 11900 Census, Nancy says that she bore 7 chidren, and 4 living at that time.

W.C. Cantwell was the son of James Cantwell (b; in or around 1795 South Carolina - d; possibly before the 1860 Census) and his wife the former Matilda Crane

James Cantwell probably migrated from South Carolina through Alabama and Tennessee. We know that they were in Arkansas from at least 1828 through 1841 because of the records of the children who were born there. There is a James Cantwell listed in tax records for Crawford County Arkansas in 1829, in Cnesus records of 1830 there was a James Cantwell listed in Pope County, Arkansas which is the source for children being born at certain years, but as of 1990 the names of these children were unknown. It is assumed that James Cantwell moved the family to Texas around 1845/1846? after Texas was annedx on 29 December 1845 making it the 28th State of the Union. In 1850 the family is located in Fannin County, Texas. In 1860 Matilda and 6 children are recorded at Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. It is assumed that James died in the prior ten years withier on the way to Missouri or on the way back. As of 1990 no later records of Matilda had been found.

James Cantwell was the brother of William Cantwell (b; 1790, South Carolina - d; around 1868 Grayson County, Texas)

William and his wife Cyntha or Cynthia Cantwell had 13 children, the 7th of which was Abner Cantwell (b; 1830, Alabama) Abner married Catherined Dawsey and they had five sons.

The fifth son was Wilson Elixander Cantwell (31 January 1862, Texas - 11 October 1949. Wilson Elixander was married twice. His first wife was Anna Elizabeth Amie (Kuykendall) Guffey (28 April 1884 -17 January 1917)They had 6 girls;
Mary Cassora Cantwell, Delilah May, Pleasant Zann, Nola Sirena, Minnie Vernetta, and Edeth.

Nola Sirena (b; 10 December 1901 -14 Sept 1978) was my grandmother. She married Jerome Kirby (J.K.) Burns (10 Feb 1898 - 30 April 1966). They had four children, the youngest of which is their only surviving child, he is also mmy father. William Montgomery Burns (29 November 1933) He married Barbara Ann (Gundlach) and they had four daughters, of which I am the oldest surviving child.

I know a lot about my family because I sat at my grandmother's feet as a child and I listened. I have a wonderful source in my grandmother's youngest sister, and when I get stuck I look to the "Cantwell and Allied Families of Ark, Az, N.M. Okla. & Tx." Cantwell (b; 1905, Texas- d; 31 July 1937, buried in Fiskville Cemetery, Austin, TX and Ethel Belle (Rogers) Cantwell (b: 12 May 1912) A 1924 Austin City Directory lists a Houston Cantwell living at 1710 San Jacinto Street. Did anyone find out who William Mason Cantwell's grandfather was? In the 1850 Washington County, Ohio Census, William Cantwell, age 54,(so born about 1796) wife Mary (maiden name unknown), age 44, and 5 of their 7 children. One of the sons: Mason, age 17, was William Mason Cantwell. My guess is that since his older brother was John Jackson Cantwell (b. 1826)that the grandfather's name was John Cantwell. Several family trees have the grandfather as William Cantwell that married Nancy Ann Williams, but this doesn't seem right to me.

My father Jack Van Cantwell grew up in Oklahoma and he and his brothers, Buck Cantwell, and Hubert Cantwell moved to California sometime in the 50's. My dad is a Cantwell, unfortunately I grew up not knowing him; so I don't know a lot of people from the Cantwell side. His name is Houston Wayne Cantwell, and his mom is Bonnie Herrin and I believe his dad is Howard J Cantwell. My dad is from Austin I believe and I believe his mom (my grandmother) died back in 2005, and I think she use to reside in Leander with my grandfather. John Cantwell died in New York in 1857 leaving behind wife Mary (Reardon) and only surviving child William. Don't know if John was born in the US or Ireland, but his wife Mary was born in Tipperary around 1818. The story goes that William was born on Long Island around 1852.

William is my husband's great grandfather.

Well, I know he was the first settler on Souris Line Road, Souris, Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1821. I don't know if he came directly to PEI or not. There are Cantwells in Newfoundland and also in Nova Scotia. He may have come via Newfoundland and then moved on to PEI. I have my family tree posted o http://www.islandregister.com

Cantwell & Weigel - Ohio (Clermont County?)

I'm trying to find information on Lorenzo Weigel and his wife, Catherine Cantwell, whose daughter, Luella Weigel, was born in 1862 and married in Clermont County in the 1880s.

Lorenzo was born in Germany (it is thought), and Catherine was born in Ireland (it is thought).

I've had no luck locating either Lorenzo or Catherine, although I've seen one or two possibilities for Catherine. Really have nothing else to go on for this.

David Cantwell b. 1855 in MO?, lived in AR then on to Oregon where he passed away in 1937. I believs his parents to be Moses and Polly (Titsworth) Cantwell, not sure. He marrid a Martha and then a Della. Did he have any children by either woman? I don't need information from the Internet, already have it.

My great-grandfather was William Cantwell, born 1865 in Mullinahone, Co. Tipperary. He had a sister, Ellen Cantwell, born 1862. Their parents were Thomas Cantwell & Ellen McGrath. Thomas was born in Mullinahone and baptised there on 29th March, 1827. Thomas' parents were John Cantwell and Mary Walsh. Thomas died in the mid to late 1860s. His widow remarried a Martin Quirke in Mullinahone in 1869. In 1871, they all migrated to Australia. Do you think there is any connection between my Thomas and your Thomas? I'm looking for the descendants of Carrie Cantwell born in 1882 in Kansas. Her mother was Clarinda (Lucas or Withers). Mr. Cantwell was Clarinda's second husband (I think) and Carrie may have been their only daughter.

Carrie's mother, Clarinda's death certificate lists Clarinda's father as John Lucas from England and her mother as unknown. Census records indicate that Clarinda's mother was from Pennsylvania.

Doyel is my grandfather. My maiden name is Jeneal Kellogg. My mother is Doyel's daughter, Anna Carmel. We have been searching for Doyel for years. Do you know where he is or how to contact him? Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated. My mother has not seen him since she was 3 yrs old.

Thank you for the information. William Wallace Cantwell was born in Dec. 1879, but I didn't find him listed in the 1880 census or the 1900 census. In the 1880 Wood County, WV census, his mother Mary Elizabeth is listed with her parents John and Mary Ann(Covey) Cantwell, her brother Bennett Cantwell, her brother William(Kingsbury)Cantwell and his wife Mary Ann (Bartrug) Cantwell. I think it is strange that William Wallace is not listed with them.

Mary Elizabeth married Orange A. Ober on Jan. 2, 1882. They are listed in the 1910 Wood County, WV census, but I didn't find them in the 1900 census. William Wallace Cantwell is listed in the 1910 Ritchie County, WV census with his wife and children.

I also think that it is strange that on William Wallace's death record his father is listed as Oran Cantwell and mother listed as unknown. I guess Oran Cantwell was really Orange Ober.

My husband is a great grandson of William Mason Cantwell (born 1833), John Jackson Cantwell's (born 1826) younger brother.

He was buried in Arlington Cemetery. His wife was Myrtle Lou Carder. The death record lists Oran Cantwell as his father, and Unknown for his mother. His son Kenneth W. Cantwell was the informant for the death record. I think he might be a grandson of John Jackson Cantwell born 1826 or William Mason Cantwell born 1833 in Ohio. So far I have found several descendants, but not his ancestors.

My wife is a grandaughter of William Wallace Cantwell. She knows little of her ancestry but I have looked in to it a little. The family seemed to skirt the issue of the father of William from what I gather from her.

William's mother was Mary Elizabeth Cantwell. She was apparently not married at the time she had William but soon thereafter married a man by the name of Orange Ober. Mary and Orange had several other children. Her death certificate indicates that her father was J. J. Cantwell (probably John Jackson Cantwell born in Noble Co., OH) and her mother was a Covey (probably Mary Covey).

It is possible that Orange Ober was the father of William Wallace Cantwell, but I have found no proof of it.

My GGG-Grandfather was Patrick Cantwell, born in 1797 in the parish of Dunnamagal, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada, and was the first settler on Souris Line Road, in eastern P.E.I. He married Catherine Price but I think that happened here on P.E.I. Can anyone give me any info on Patrick and his family in Ireland?

Those two names are new to me. It's possible that they are somehow related, but I would have to do further research. All I know is that my grandfather, THOMAS CANTWELL, was born in Carew and baptized at the parish in Ballingarry; and I know that my great-grandparents, MICHAEL CANTWELL and CATHERINE GRANT, were married at the Ballingarry parish in November 1888. Michael had three brothers; John, Edward and Daniel; and their father was THOMAS CANTWELL who supposedly married an ELIZABETH FLANNERY. Thank you, however, for your reply.

My great-great grandfather, THOMAS CANTWELL would have lived in the Kilkenny area in 1850. I don't have definite proof, but he supposedly married an ELIZABETH FLANNERY and had at least four sons, MICHAEL (my great-grandfather), JOHN, EDWARD and DANIEL. MICHAEL CANTWELL married CATHERINE GRANT in the parish at Ballingarry in November 1888; and THOMAS CANTWELL (my grandfather) was born in Callan in October 1889. My Cantwell family emigrated to the United States around 1890 and settled in Pittsburgh, Pa. I hope this is of some help to you; I also hope to hear from you if we are somehow connected.

Cantwell - Long Island, New York, USA

I am searching for the ancestors of my husband's Great Great Grandfather, John Cantwell, who died in Long Island, New York, supposedly 1857. A daughter Catherine also died around this time as well.

His wife, Mary (Readdon), and son William, born around 1852 in New York, left for Australia from Boston in 1858. Mary and William settled at Doctors Creek, Ballan, Victoria, in Australia. I think Mary chose Ballan because the other Cantwells already living there were relatives of husband John.

William went on to have 15 children with 13 surviving. Three of his sons settled in New Zealand.

Can any of the listers help me as we know nothing of his life in the US or Ireland; it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Sharolyn, David Cantwell is a son of Moses cantwell and Mary Polly Titsworth. David and his wife Martha Pioneer Southworth had a son, Robert Moses Cantwell, b. 15 feb 1887, Heppner, Morrow, Oregon. Died 8 aug 1954. There was a daughter adopted or foster? This info came from decsendants of Martha Pioneer Southworth Cantwell. Wilma [Willie] Cantwell b. 11 oct 1898. On Wilma Cantwell's delayed birth certificate she listed her parents as David and Martha Cantwell. David is my husbands grgandfather. I have not done the verification on him as I have been working on Robert Moses Cantwell's history. If you are interested e-mail me I would love to share. Lennet

I am looking for family of Erwin June CANTWELL, the son of Willie Erwin. I had made contact with him in 2004, but he passed away in 2007. I know that he had a son and several daughters, but do not know how to contact them.
E.J. was my 1st cuz. My father and his father were brothers.
His father died in the 30s and my father died in the 60s.
