Hello Bill and Sharon,
there is an Edward Capel recorded on the american 1880 census with a wife called Mary. She must be his second wife, judging by the ages of the children. Do either of you have a copy of their marriage?
I have an Edward Capel who was baptized in 1827 in Devon. Perhaps there is a connection.

Regards,
Anne in Wales

Alice Maud Capel, Reading, Berkshire

Hi I am trying to trace my Grandmothers sister Alice Maud Gardiner daughter of Emily & Alfred Gardiner, She married Ernest Capel on 26th Dec 1932 & Died 30 Jul 1984 She had some children that I can only trace 3 Peter Pauline & Ernest Capel. We had an old photo of 3 children believed to be related to Maud called Tina,Graham & Melvin. All we know of these is Tina died in a house fire in Whitley wood Road Reading, sometime in 50/60's. If anybody can help me with this I would be eternally gratefull as My father Alan who was Ethel Gardiner/Lovejoy son died not really knowing about his family as a feud
over a sick sister Rose had torn the family apart some years earlier. we think Maud may have attended Ethel's funeral in March 1970 but thats where the story ends. If anyone has any info at all it would be so nice to find those missing relatives Thank you Joanne

Hello again! I'm sorry but the only name I have so far is Edward. I haven't gotten very far at all with my Capel research. I did have a Great Uncle Edwin Capel who died a few years back. He also lived in New Jersey. My father was named after him. So I assume you haven't come across this person in your research. Where should I start my research in your state? With it only two states away I would like to spend a few days there to do some research of my own.
Thanks, Sharon

Check for my postings on the Capel family genforum.
Robinson Capel was a descendant of Thomas and Ann Capel. The Capels were connected to my mother's Webb family in Isle of Wight, VA, Surry, Sussex, Brunswick, and Greensville, VA.

I recall that there were some Ingrams in Brunwick and Greensville.

Ann Capel may have been the sister of Robert Webb, Jr., and Charles Webb. Charles Webb died in Southampton County, VA, in 1758. Thomas Capel was a witness to his will.

Bob Lamb

I am researching James Capel, who lived in Meriwether County, Georgia in 1850. He was born about 1820 in North Carolina. He and his wife, Emily, has these 4 children in 1850: Judy, Andrew J. (my ggg grandfather), Abner J. and Martha. According to the 1850 census, his mother Elizabeth Capel was living next to them. She was born about 1781 in Virginia. Any help would be appreciated.
Pauline

There have been several times in the
last few years where I wanted to ask you a question
but I can't recall the questions now. Have had my
computer only since April 2003. No, have not learned why they named him Capel. Had a visit from one of his descendants who lived in Shreveport and learned a lot from him.....Chandler

Hi, Chandler. It's been awhile since we last corresponded. Have you found why William Head and Sarah Blake named their son William Capel Head? There was a Sir William Capel, Mayor of London in 1503. Perhaps William Capel Head was named after him. Just an idea.

Hi,
My son and I are trying to find information on the Koppal family. My ancestor, Joseph Koppal, was a Richmond Virginia resident in 1889 and fought in the Civil War. Either he or his father is said to have imigrated from either Germany or Switzerland. It has been said in our family that the name may have been changed, or combined with another name to get Koppal. Since your Copal is so simular and you have a Joseph relative, I wonder if there is some connection. Was your name origionally Koppal or Copal?
Thank You for any information you can give me.
Linda Kemper
Sharon,
thanks for responding. My relatives were from the Kent County, Maryland area. If you had any of your great grandfathers siblings names, that may help. The Edward Capel of my family had many sons and doughters by the two wives that he had. A few were named william, james, and charles Heber. Any info on these you may have would be helpful. The case might be that your relatives and my relatives might have been cousins/or related, as I know many of the capel's in Maryland I'm supposed to be related to. thanks again for responding, hopefully this will help me.
