According to the 1870, 1880, 1900 NY censuses, I found that Loren (b. 1862 d. 1929) Mary (b. 1864 d. 1935) were not from Ireland, but were born in Syracuse. Mary's parents appear to have been from Ireland, but I don't know yet from where. Loren's parents, Lester (b. abt. 1837) Eliza (b. abt. 1836) were born in New York. I don't now yet where Lester's father William (b. abt. 1807) is from. In the 1870 census (name spelled CAPPELS, a Lorenzo CAPPELS is listed in the household, aged 30, along with an 8-yr old Lorenzo. In the 1880 Loren CAPELS is listed at age 19 (name evidently shortened from Lorenzo), along with parents Lester (age 43) and Eliza (44), a brother George, aged 17 (where was George in 1870?), and Lester's father, William (aged 73).
I found that a Lorenzo CAPLES enlisted in Syracuse in the Civil War at age 19 in 1864. He died in Syracuse at age 63 in 1906 leaving a wife, Hannah.
