I am trying to help my husband (Luis A. Capo Sr) find information about his family from P.R. All the info I have is his dad Ernesto Capo (now Sr)was born November 7, 1933 in Santa Isabella to Agustin Santiago and Eugenia Capo. I know his distant cousin was Bobby Capo and his dad's grandfather's name was Vincente Alamar Capo, but that is all the info I was able to get. Any help finding out more information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Francisco Capo-Yllas Arribas was born in Catalonia, Spain in 1824, and he died in Guayama, Puerto Rico on April 4, 1874.

He can not be the same person as Capt. Francisco Capo, who died in Guayama, Puerto Rico on Aug, 9, 1841 at he age of 65.

It was Franciso Capo-Yllas who received the Spanish land grant for 200 curdas
from Spain. I hope this will clear up any confusion.

Federico Capo was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and he died in Ponce, Puerto Rico on Dec 10, 1901. He was married to Lorenza Fosis Scotti.

Many years later from your original posting, I am reading this for the first time. Ms. Eugenia, did you find the answers to your questions? I am wondering if we have some common lineage. Pedro Capo Rodriguez was my great grandfather, born in San Juan to Jose Capo Rodriguez. There are descendants of Pedo's siblings living in San Juan and Ponce.

The Capo family was originally from Spain, from Mallorca I believe, but beyond that I don't know any details of the ancestors in Spain.

Hello I'm descendant of florencio Capo Planchart, I would be interested in Teresa's info. If you were able to get any. Apparently the Capo Planchart Siblings emigrated had to escape Venezuela and parents came w/ 5 of 6 children. Francisco Capo father was a captain from Catalunya Spain.

My father Teofilo Capo, was born in Guayama. He was born in Guayama in 1955. That's about as far back as I know.

Bobby Capo was not truly a Capo as you might imagine since being black his ancestors were slaves and as such as was the custom slaves especially once freed would take the name of their masters, the reason for this message is that sadly my family belongs to that group of slave owners and as such this has knowledge has been brought to my attention for these types of discussion

My Great Grandfather,Giovanni Capo, came from Sicily to Havana Cuba in 1855. He was a furniture carver. He was commissioned to do various projects so he decided to stay in Cuba. Later he brought his wife and children where he lived the rest of his life and died in 1910. He had 2 sons and one daughter Rosa, Julio and Simon. Simon was my Grandfather.

The information that I have is that Capo-Planchard' father is Captain Francisco Capo and who died in Guayama, P.R. on
09 Aug. 1841. I have a copy of his death certificate.
The Capo Family escape from Venezuela with 5 of the 6 children. They arrived in P.R. in 1823.
This is not the same person as "Francisco Capo-Yllas, since
he got married in 1853, when the Captain was already dead.
If you are interested, I have a copy of the Spanish land grant that was given to Capo-Yllas. If you send me your postal address, I would be glad to send this to you

My name is Melanie (Plaia) Miller and my greatgrand mother was a Capo(Rosalie) from Gibellina Sicily - she married Andrea Plaia - I do know a Russell Fontana who's mother was a Capo (cousin to my ggr mother) he lives in Beaumont, TX. He came to the US in the late 50's early 60's. I'm not sure of his age - maybe mid to late 50's. He still has his accent - I like that, it remind me of my grandpa. I am looking for info on a Guessippe Capo he married a Mary Palermo in Italy and then sailed to America. They landed in the port at New Orleans in the late 1890's or very early 1900's. They had several children, Dominick, Sam, Nada, Carrie,and others I can't recall at this time. sam was born in 1911 in Beaumont, Texas. All the rest of the children were born in Louisiana. Please help No info is getting old!

They had a son Cosimo who came to the U.S. H was married to Antionette Bertone. Cosimo was my husband's grandfather. He and his wife first came to Old Forge, Pa and later moved to Washington, Pa. Oscar was a mayor in Cuba when Castro took over. Was imprisoned then wife Bertha and brother freed him. His family, children Suzie and Oscar, fled to America and settled in Florida then moved on to Ohio. Served an internship in Dayton V.A. Hospital to earn American Medical License. Set up ENT practice in Hamilton Ohio and was once top 10 best ENT surgeons in country. Both Oscar and Bertha died in late 1970's early 1980's. Suzie lives in Brazil. Let's see if I can give a complete history lesson and be brief about it. Around the 1750's Menorca was going through a famine. the islands at that time were English owned. Dr. Turnbull was an English Physician that wanted to try having a plantation in Florida.
He basically "enlisted" several families from the island to be endentured servants, meaning they would work a contracted number of years and then would be given a piece of the land as their own. Well, Florida was not the booming state that it is now, though it was well on the way! Through crop failures and illnesses, the plantation failed. The governor of east Florida at that time managed to make Turnbull release everyone from their "contracts". He gave them little food and sent them packing. the Menorcan families had several choices before them. Return to Menorca, go to South America, or somewhere else. A great number of the Menorcan families traveled up the coast and settled in St. Augustine. The Menorcan culture there is part of the city's great heritage and they have a Cultural festival every year. The records I have of the Capo family goes back to at least 1 Capo family that came over in the 1750's, Juan Capo.
I'm going home this weekend to my parents and I'll look up more information.

Dennis James Capo, 53, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at his home. He was born May 31, 1955, in Connellsville. He graduated from Connellsville High School with the class of 1973. He lived in Amherst since 1989. Dennis attended Penn State University and acquired a stationary engineer's license through the state of Ohio. Dennis was employed with U.S. Steel for 13 years, traveling between Pennsylvania and Ohio. He then spent 16 years at RTI/REP Steel in Lorain, retiring as a stationary engineer. Hello! We found your inquiry about the Capo Family tree. Pedro Capó-Rodriguez was the brother of my grandfather, José Capó-Rodriguez . I met Pedro Capó Rodriguez and his wife Maude when they came to Puerto Rico to visit my father and my uncle in the 1960's . My father's name was Humberto Capó-Caballero and my uncle's name José Capó -Caballero.
We often visit José Capó-Tomás'gravesite near Ponce, Puerto Rico. He died in 1920 in Puerto Rico.

Just found this message board - have been searching several years for lineage of my ggrandfather, Pedro Capo-Rodriguez. He was born in June 1877 in San Juan. His parents may have been Jose Capo-Tomas (from Spain) and ? Gallego from (Peru?).

Pedro moved to U.S., married Maude Tarble of Vermont about 1908, studied law and became a lawyer. He was a member of the Vermont state bar and the Bar of the Supreme court of the U.S. If you know about his professional life, I am also interested in more details about this.

Pedro and Maude retired in Florida near Daytona Beach. He passed away in 1968.

If you can help I would be grateful.

My boyfriend's name is Richard Joseph Capo. His father was Sam (Guiseppe) Capo who was born in Orange Texas in 1911. His father was Guiseppe Capo who was married to Mary (or it could have been Angelina, without my notes I am not sure) Palermo was her maiden name. They immigrated here toi the United States around 1900 through the Port at New Orleans Louisianna. They lived for a while in Placermain Louisianna before coming further south to Texas.

I know that Rich says his grandparents were from from a small village about 100 miles inland. I can't remember the name of the town but I think it starts with a G, I'll have to ask, I have been very unlucky with all my searches to find the Capo's that came before Rich's grandfather from Italy.
