Hallo all descendants of the CAPT family, I am married to Roger Capt and I can tell you for sure the family originaly came from France in the 16th. century and settled just across the Swiss-French border in the Canton (county) of VAUD in the Vallée de Joux (the valley of trees)and the village of origin is called LE SENTIER (the path). They were protestants called Huguenots and were persecuted in their own country. They were farmers, carpenters and watchmakers. Louis is a typical Capt name and these days most Capts live in the cantons of Vaud and Geneva. The family crest is very beautiful with one eagle and 4 bunches of red grapes. The crest probably originates from the time before they came to Switzerland because most Swiss wine is made from white grapes and the Vallée de Joux is too high up to grow grapes. I have heard that the Capts came from Burgundy and still live in that region. The Vallée de Joux is one of the still unspoilt regions of Switzerland and only for those who like a simple, quiet life. Very best regards from Switzerland. Yvonne Capt
