Hola!!! I am enchanted by this gathering of wonderful people. I am Caratini also.(Originally with two Ts, but my father decided to drop one.) I am from Coamo, Puerto Rico and am related to the family in Guayama and Aibonito. About 20 years ago, I made contact with a few Carattini's from Ponce, and learned that the family was related to my family by only one cousin, Antonia Carattini. In San Juan, we are also related by one cousin, Aponte Carattini, the owner of the professional basketball team. My father is cousin twice removed of Vicente Caratini, the famed island singer. In searching the roots of the family in Coamo, I learned that we had the distinction of having had one Caratini who was the first mayor, Alcaide (yep, that's how it is spelled) of the town of Coamo. The baseball player, Pedro M. Carattini, for whom our baseball field is named, originally came from the Dominican Republic. Supposedly, we in Coamo, have the tightest niche of Caratini
ancestors, my grandfather, Victor Caratini, having been the founder of the PPD party for Don Luis Munoz Marin. Our family members are bankers, doctors, lawyers, educators and cattle and horse owners.
I am a college professor residing in Texas and am avidly searching the connection between my grandfather, Victor Caratini, and other family relatives. I have requested his SSDI and hope to continue the loop.
I know that we are related to Eliodoro Carattini born in 1896, but I have to make sure that's true. We have that information and the mayor's information but it is not documented. It came from interviewing sextagenarians who lived in Coamo at the turn of the century. (My grandfather was born in 1900.)
As for our family coming from Corsica, I have heard the same, and I have also heard that they were pirates... so, Ahoy, Mates, let's find out more about where we come from.
I have book marked this page and hope to visit it every other day for updates.
Take care and God Bless!
