Welcome to the GenConnect CARAWAN Surname Board. While the CARAWAN / CARRAWON / CARROWON name is rare, hopefully this Board will encourage contact among Carawan researchers everywhere. My own Carawan line begins with John Carawan who first appears in Hyde County, North Carolina records in 1749 and who wrote his will there in 1770.
Where did he come from? Possibly Dorchester Co., Maryland, where there is a 1745 Estate Account for John Carawon administered by his wife Mary. Listed are four children: Matthew, Elizabeth, JOHN and Peter. Matthew Carawan (the eldest ?) was surety and from deeds following this account, Matthew ends up with all of the land of his father. Did his younger brother John move south to Hyde Co., NC???
And where did this family come from? Ireland... Scotland... The search continues.

I have set up this Board because noone else would, but I really don't have time to manage it. I need help in order for it to continue in existence. Please help !!!

John
