Searching for our history.

Hello, My family and I are just starting our search. Our Tata's name was Gabino Carbajal(Reyes?),our Nana's was Trinidad Zazueta or Fazueta Carbajal, she was from Sonora Mexico, born on August 4, about 1905. My Nana was Mayan indian and she had a sister named Cruz. Our tata was born on June 15,1895, he was from Bacerra,Mexico. We are told that our Tata came to Arizona when he was in his 20's to buy a wedding gown for his then waiting fiance in Mexico. His plans were changed when he met our Nana. When he ultimatley returned to Mexico an enevitble beating had taken place by his ex fiances brother. We have also been told that quite some time back one of our great X's grandfathers had been adopted by the Carbajal family. The reason for this is that, one day he was going to the local market with his father to sell items. On the way the were attacked by what was believed to be yaqui indians. His father was killed, and our grandfather was then sold at the market to the Carbajal family. They were owners of a ranch. Our grandfather was adopted by them and since then we bear our surname proudly. We'v been told that our grandfthers's previous last name was Reyes. We will be setting up a Facebook page soon to track and assist with the search for our familys history. Currently my e-m mail is victoryfor7@yahoo.com. We will greatly apprreciate any help, thank you. Lisa Carbajal

I am sure our Carbajal line began at the same place but got separated at some point in time. Do you have the family tree back any farther than your father's grandfather? Of course, it would be hard to know if it was our line because we don't have any names to go by. If you have any suggestions, please share. Our information is Felipe Carbajal, born in New Mexico Territory around 1882, married Matilda Chavez also born in New Mexico Territory. Not a lot to go on...Thanks, Eileen

Dear Melissa, My husband's grandfather was Felipe Carbajal from Montrose, Colorado. We think Grampa Felipe's brothers moved to Wyoming. He also spent some time there. Do you know of any relatives in Colorado? Grampa Felipe was born in New Mexico, was married to Matilda Chavez and had children named Paulita, Flor, Margarita, Anita, Maria, and a son named David. Could they be relatives of yours? Please reply...I am making a family tree. Eileen

Thank you for your indormation. I really don't have much to go on but just found Felipe Carbajal (my husband's grandfather) on the 1910 and 1920 Census so I will go on from there. Both he and his wife Matilda Chavez were born in New Mexico Territory. Let's see where this leads. To my knowledge, there is no Nicholas Carbajal. But if I find info, i'll send it to you.
I have no specific information on the CARBAJAL names you mention, the family I'm looking for came from Louisiana, we know they were there in the 1880s on, his name was Nicholas CARBAJAL born Spain about 1856, died 1900 in New Orleans after having 7 children there with Rosa LOPEZ also from Spain.

Can you give locations and years or even decades for any of the names you mention ? US, Spain, Mexico, Cuba ? Having a location and time span will help anyone in the future who reads this. If any of these names can be located in a US census, the parents won't be mentioned unless he's a child living with them but the birth country of each parent will be given if its 1861 or later, I think 1851 did not give this information but am not looking at one right now. It goes me, then my father Ruben Frank Carbajal, his father, Frank Carbajal, his father, Ruben Baker Carbajal, who married my great grandmother Sara Murillo, Ruben Baker's father was Francisco Loya Carbajal and Josephine Baker was his mother.
Re: Looking for information.

I don't have information on David CARBAJAL personally, but his death is noted in the SSDI [Social Security Death Index] for 2003. There are 6 David CARBAJALs in the Index, 4 died in California but only 1 died '03 :
David CARBAJAL
Birth Date: 5 Dec 1931
Death Date: 14 Jan 2003
Social Security Number: 545-60-6504
State Where Number Was Issued: California
Death Residence Localities - ZIP Code: 92707
Localities:
Santa Ana, Orange, California
South Main, Orange, California

If this fits the man you are looking for, getting an obituary may help if there happens to be one. California is hard to get obits from as the population is so high in each town and city. Out of 17 volunteers at RAOGK [Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness] there are none who do Obit lookups for Orange county. He may not even have a published obituary. I'd start with finding him at a cemetery and getting information from that cemetery. Who owns the plot, who paid for it, is there a contact you can get..., those kind of questions they should be able to answer. RAOGK has a volunteer who will do lookups in the Santa Ana cemetery index to see if someone is there. Go to the RAOGK homepage [use Google for RAOGK] and select California, then go to Orange county and read what each volunteer will do. Find the ones with Santa Ana Cemetery and write to them by clicking on their name. Its a start. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma

Looking for information.

I don't know much about my father. My sister told me that his name is David Carbajal and I am not sure if my mother ever married him. Her name is Teresa D. Martinez. Here is my problem none of my sister's (8) or my brother know anything. My mother passed away when I was 4 1/2. I tried to find him and last I heard was he lived in California but died in 2003. Any information would be appreciated.

My name is Patricia Carbajal, from El Paso, TX. Parents from the state of Chihuahua. Grandfather, Jesus Carbajal (Bernal or Velarde) from Cd. Juarez. Many relatives to my father, Mario Carbajal, reside in San Elizario, Tx. I don't know them in person nor by name. My understanding is that my dad's family is very big. I know that my grandpa had a sister named Andrea, a called by everyone, Chenito. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of all of my grandpa's siblings, nor my great grandparents names. I will look into dad by asking my father.

She also lived in El Paso, Texas, and may have moved to Nebraska. I think I might have family in California. I'm 59 years old looking for my dad's family.
