Mary Clark was born about 1810 or 1811. On her marriage license she names as father Samuel Clark and mother Mary or Martha Potter. Would anyone have any further information? I was told Mary or Martha Potter's family was Thomas Potter.

Thank you

He was at least a friend of Moses Taylor, they seemed to move together so I think he may be related somehow.

Thank you,
Linda

Greetings all:

Almira B. Card born about 1805 New York, married about 1829 in New York to Nathaniel H. Wolfe born 1805 Norfolk, Virginia.

They had a home in New York and in Manhatten.

Children:

Joseph Wolfe born 1829 NY.
Nathaniel Wolf born 1832 NY
Almira Virginia Wolfe born 1837 NY.
Florence Wolf born 1837 NY.
Agnes Wolf born 1838 NY.
Agusta Wolfe born 1839 NY.
Adelaide Wolfe born 1842 NY.
Fredrick Wolfe born 1846 NY.
Clara Nattile Wolfe born 1847 NY.

Who the Wolfe children married:

Almira Virginia Wolf married 10 Jan 1877 to John M. Roundtree in Manhatten, NY.

Clara Nattile Wolf married 14 Oct. 1874 to John Woodhaul VanCleve in Manhatten.

Nathaniel H. Wolfe and the New York Corn & Produce Exchange

The New York Produce Exchange.; Wide Scope of Its Operations and History of Its Growth September 22, 1901, Wednesday.
Finally, in 1853, the Corn Exchange was duly incorporated at Albany, with Joseph Ketcham as chairman and Nathanial Wolf as presiding officer. A store on South Street had been rented as a meeting place, but the change did not prove very popular, and attance at the meetings was small, until provision dealers and shipping merchants began to join, which gave an impetus to the new association, and in 1860 the Produce Exchange was erected at the corner of Whitehall and Pearl Streets.

THE DEATH OF NATHANIEL H. WOLFE 6 Jan. 1873

A largely attended meeting of the New York Produce exchange was held yesterday, to take suitable action regarding the decease of Nathaniel H. Wolfe, who died at the Fifth ave Hotel on Monday. Mr Wolfe was identified with the produce interests of New York for about 40 years, and was a member of the Produce Exchange from its opening.

Thanks for any information or leads.
Tom Thompson
Bradenton, FL.

Hi, Charles Hazen Card is my great grandfather. I have a copy of his second marriage certificate which states that his parents were James Card born in New Brunswick and Mary Purdy also born in New Brunswick. So you see that he can't be the son of John Card. It's confusing as the only other record of Charles or his parents I can find is the 1851 Census of Dorchester, NB which shows him with his mother (?) Sarah Card. Supposedly James and Mary lived on Deer Island, NB at Leonardville and are buried there. I went to the island a couple of years ago but the cemetery at Leonardville has many stones half buried and has not been kept up so found nothing. From 1863 on I have much info on Charles, his family, his Civil War service, etc. I would be happy to share any of this if you are interested. You can email me directly if you would like this at mlewis@maine.rr.com.

I am researching the same family. My guess is that Sarah CARD, the mother in the 1851 census, is married to a John Card. I would be happy to explain the evidence. I am leaning towards the opinion that John is the son of Isaac Card of Newport, Hants, NS, and was born 1784, and died in the late 1830s.

Hi there. I'm Heather's husband, Jason. We've been working on our joint trees, together. My wife is also in a direct line, through John Alvin, to John Card & Mary Polly Brown.

Stephen Card 1778-1881 ... can't be Mary's son, as she'd only be 7, when he was born.

John Alvin is my wife's 4th great grandfather. The Camden referred to, where he married Hannah, is a township in Ontario, not Georgia.

From my wife, to Mary Polly Brown...

Heather Barbara Badder

d/o Raymond Russell Badder

S/o Phoebe Louise Card

d/o Acie Orval Card

s/o Marshall B Card

s/o Nathaniel Card

s/o John Alvin Card Jr

s/o John Alvin Card Sr & Mary Polly Brown

There seems to be some evidence that the Cards and Browns were Loyalists. We're interested in any information about Mary Polly Brown, Nathaniel Card, John Alvin Card Jr & Sr, plus John Sr's father, Stephen Card, Caleb Brown, and if there's any relation between Mary and Caleb.

We'd be happy to share any info we've got.

Thanks.

Hi Mary,
You can take a look at my family tree online with ancestry.ca. It's called "Moore Family Tree", or maybe search under my id? kristam114.
Just in case, here is some more:

Elisha Vannest's father is James W Vannest - did I give you all that already?? His father is supposedly Varandus (or some variation) Vannest, all from Watertown, Jefferson New York. And before that, possibly Dutch.

I have some on the Card's as well. Elizabeth Card's parents John Card and Mary Brown (you probably have), and his parents Stephen Card b. 1748 East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island, US, d. Feb 16 1798 Petersburg, Rensselaer, New York; and his wife Renewed Briggs b. 1752 East Greenwich (Same), d and m unknown.

Shannons I have only back from Elizabeth. Her father is James W.
Re: Elisha?Lasher Vannest-b.1831,Ont.-son of ELIZABETH CARD & James Vannest

Hi,
My great great great grandfather is Elisha Vannest, who married Elizabeth Ann (Shannon). She was born Feb 3, 1841 in Camden East Ontario (of American origin), and died at aged 46 on Sept 20, 1887 (this date is based on a memorial plaque in my grandmother's album - if you want to know more, I can certainly get that to you). She died in Centreville or Aaronsville, Ontario, but was moved to Tamworth where she is buried with Elisha and the 2 babies that did not live. They were married before 1858, no date yet. Elisha was born May 6, 1831 and later after his wife died, worked and lived with his family (Hiram) at the Stoney Mountain penitentiary in Manitoba. But he was moved and buried at Tamworth along with his wife. They lived in Napanee, Lennox and Addington, Ontario as of 1870 census.

Their daughter, Emma Vannest is my great great grandmother. She married Hiram Keech. Emma was born Oct 8, 1858 in Camden East township, Ontario. She died about 1950 (age 91) in Kingston Ontario at the "Hotel Dieu". My grandmother Helen B. Keech who is now 90 knows all about that. Emma married Hiram Keech Oct 6 1975 in Napanee, Ontario. Emma is of American original through her Vannest side. And her father's father James W. Vannest married Elizabeth (Betsy) Card who was a Quaker. They were both born in Watertown, Jefferson, NY and Elizabeth moved to Gladwin, Michigan where she died. I have more, but it gets too long!
Oh, Hiram Keech's father is Barton R Keech and mother is Caroline Ann Thurston. Hope this helps.
Krista
kristam@rogers.com

I do have some information about Phoebe. According to the death notice in the Woodland Daily Democrat on 9 Apr 1906, her maiden name was Phoebe R. Case and she was born on 9 Apr 1832 in New York. She married Walter D. Card abt 1872. They had no children, but Phoebe had a child from a previous marriage. I have no information about that marriage. I believe that the child was Annie, who married Charles I. Douglass. Annie was the mother of Hazel and Grace. Annie died in March 1898 in Phoenix AZ and is buried in Woodland CA. I am not sure who Anna Smith belongs to. This is my husband's family tree. His grandmother was Hazel Douglass Edgington.

Thanks!

For the life of me I can not figure out how Mary Smythe is related to John Ellsworth. Here is what I have.

Mary Smythe (b.abt. 1535 d. abt. 1579)
2 marriages John Simkinson and William Brewster

David Ellsworth (b. 1530 d. 14 Feb 1618) marrying a Mary Smythe (same birth and death info as above). They are listed as having one child, John Ellsworth (b. 3 Feb 1578 d. 26 Mar 1653). I also have David being married to a David and having one child which would be John.

I am lost and confused. Mary's info doesn't have anything about David Ellsworth or John Ellsworth. John's info doesn't have anything about Mary Smythe. It looks like the only thing tying them together is David Ellsworth.

I had to put it up for awhile because I was going in circles and I'm not sure how accurate the information is. I'm hoping you can shed some light on this.

Thanks!
Heather

Sorry, hit the post button too soon.

Mary married John Card and the children I have for them are as follows:
Stephen Card 1778-1881
Joseph Card 1794
John Alvin Card 1796-1881
Elizabeth Card 1802-1893
Maribah Card 1807
Laura Cora Card
William Henry Card 1823-1899
Mercy Maizie Card

Mary's parents are Naboth Brown b 1746 and Mary Brewer b. 1748. I don't have any other information on them as of yet, I really haven't researched them yet.

John Alvin is in my direct line. He was born 1796 Hoosick, Rensselaer, New York, USA and died 21 Sept 1881 Moscow, Ontario, Canada.

He married Hannah Dolphiuns (source US and International Marriage Records 1560-1900)26 Dec 1820, in Camden, Georgia. They had several children, one being a Mary Polly Card. I think this could be a source of confusion for people if not paying close attention to dates of births, etc. I have not verified the children's names and dates yet. Hannah's info is b. 1801 in New York and d. 12 Apr 1875 in Moscow, Ontario, Canada. I do not have parents of Hannah yet.

William Henry Card (another source of possible confusion) b. 13 Dec 1823 Moscow, Ontario, Canada, d. 14 Jan 1910, Gladwin, Michigan (possibly Wagarville, Gladwin County, MI) married Sarah Jane McWilliams in 1851. Her info is b. 17 Aug 1833 Barony, Lanarkshire, , Scotland d. 17 Feb 1914, Gladwin, Michigan (once again possibly Wagarville, Gladwin County, MI). They had 9 children. If you want names and dates of them, I can furnish them.

Most of what I have has been sourced unless I have already stated otherwise. I also have family history to go on, but sometimes that was sketchy at best. My dad's memory of family pretty much stopped with his mother's siblings and that he had to be reminded of. I am in the process of getting published family history, but I think that will only cover the Wagar side and not much of the Card side. At least it will help with dates.

Hope that helps. If anything is different from what you have or if you have something I don't please let me know.

Heather

The information on both stones is exactly the same, except the birth date for Matthew on the stone in Bristol, RI is October 11, 1817, while on the stone in the graveyard on Shermantown Road in North Kingston, RI, his birth date is shown as October 11, 1818. His death date and Susan's birth and death dates are identical on both stones.

Are these the same people, and if so, why do they have two stones?

I am researching the same family, but am wondering if Charles Card and his siblings were perhaps the children of a John Card. I have a reference for him in 1833 in Dorchester as having a child born then. It may be he is the John Card born 1784 to Isaac Card in Newport, Hants, NS.

I am actively looking at the origins of Leighton Card as well as John Card, both with families in Dorchester in the early to mid-19th century. I believe they were brothers.

Would love to share information and ideas on the Cards in Dorchester and the generation earlier. I can also be reached at tmoffatt-at-xplornet.com

Re: Tennessee Cards Web Site

Not sure we are related, just starting to search. This is actually my ex-husband's family. I am doing research for my children and because even though we aren't married any longer I was always more involved in the family stories and news than he was. Mary Ella Card married Harry Butler and they lived in Midland Texas with 2 sons Lynn and Henry. My ex is Henry's grandson. I love the geneology search and want my children to know about their family and be proud of them. I would appreciate an invitation to read your site. Thanks so much for the reply. Sincerely, jfsearcher
