Hi david,
I have not been on this board in a long time, since discovering Il Circolo Calabrese, where I have learned so much about my ancestors, and yours. I would love to hear more from you and how your family is, since your family and mine are partially the same. Perhaps we could trade photos and more info. I have been to Italy twice now and found my grandparents towns in Calabria. I wuold love to share this with you, if you are itnerested. Thanks for any updates. Louise. You can reach me at valtal@silcom.com, if you would like to write to my email.
Louise

Hi William,
Thank you for the inquiry about your Cardamone relatives. Unfortunately, I cannot see the direct connection. My Cardamones are from the San Pietro in Guarno, San Benedetto, and San Giovani in Fiore areas of Cosenza in Calabria. As youw ill get to know, Calabria is seperated into regions. The main ones are Cosenza, Catanzaro, and Vibo Valenti. Vibo is the area nearest the coast and going down to Reggio Calabria. Cosenza goes from the Mediteranean into the mountains and Catanzaro goes from the Ionian Sea into the mountains. I have visited all of these and did find my grandparents birthrecords in their tiny towns of Petrona and San Pietro. Hwoever, my Cardamone roots come from San giovani, I believe. There is a man on Il Circolo Calabrese (all things Calabrian) and his name is Cardamone and he knows of Cardamones now in Calabria. You might try ICC for more information. There is a great researcher on there who can give you some guidance. Her name is Trish mariachi.
Louise

Wow, It has been a long time since I got any messages through ancestry.com, but today I have one and am not sure who sent it. Nevertheless, I am responding to your email from awhile ago. My grandmother's family came to the U.S. in about 1901 and came from Calabria, Cosenza area. They went to Ohio, but I don't know why. That is where they lived most of their lives. My grandmother married Tomasso Talarico, also Calabrese, and moved with him eventually to Tennessee. I have researched much about both of my family lines. A few years ago I had the good fortune to meet some Cardamone relatives who live in Orange County. I have even been to Calabria to visit my grandmother's old village and I found her birth record, as well as those of my great grandmother who was from the same area.

So, if you think we have common ancestors, please write to me at valtal@silcom.com

Louise

Hi Pat,
I am responding to an old message--hope this gets to you!
My mother was a Cardamone in Utica. Is your family from Castagna? I have done a fair amount of family history--are you descended from Agata Cardamone and Joseph Arcuri? If so, we have a common ancestor. I can share some ancestry, but won't be much help with any relatives in Italy now. Maybe if you know any Italian...
- Jon Meehan (formerly of Utica)

My wife Antonietta's maternal great-grandparents were Francesco Cardamone and Guiseppina (Josephine) Livoti. Their children Diego, Carmine, and Antonio (all born in Cosenza) settled in Chicago, except Antonio eventually moved to Whittier, California. Antonio married Antonietta ("Antonette") J. Grimaldi. They had Frank and Joe Cardamone, and my wife's mother Mary Rita Cardamone. They all lived in the Chicago area. Mary Cardamone married Alfonso Laudonio and lived in Los Angeles County and Orange County, where my wife grew up and where we now live. I'm looking for any connections to this Cardamone branch. thanks!
My Grandfather (a Napolitano) came from Montalto Uffugo. They often dropped the second poart of the comune's name when referring to it.
Cathy

My grandfather was Raffaele Cardamone and he married Guiseppina Marasco in 1907. He came from southern Italy and lived at first with an uncle on Maple St. in Conshohocken,PA . I believe he arrived in America in1896. He and my grandmother had 12 children and they lived in Conshocken were they died. My aunts and uncles all raised their families there or nearby as well. As a young woman, just after the war, my mother came to CA and lived with her uncle Gene Marasco where she met my father and that is where she stayed. My grandfather had a brother named Francis who was married to Rose. My grandfather's father was Anthony Cardamone married to Bridget.
There are only 2 of the 12 children still livng and I have countless cousins still living in the Conshy area where I spent many summer vacations there growing up. It was my second home!

I'm only related to the Cardamone's through marriage so I'm not spending a lot of time doing the inlaws to Cardamones. I'm just taking down the notes when I happen to run across them. Your best bet is to order Geatano's naturalization record based on the index entry I posted. It might lists his parents names and might list the town in Italy he came from.

Also, it doesn't provdie much info, but if you go to www.EllisIsland.org and search for G Cozz, you will see he did arrive 15 March 1905. Travelled with Guilliette Cozza age 21, Guitano was age 15, and another gentleman Dominico Buccieri age 18(spelling may be off). Ship's name was Neckar and place of residence was Serapedace. Note, the place of residence was where he last lived, not necessarily where he was born.

Hi David,
This fits. My great aunt was Angela. Her family lived in Ohio, Cuyahoga. I feel certain this is the same family. Angela's mother was Teresa Magaro Cardamone and her father was Michael. I have also located relatives in Orange County, the great grandchildren of Concetta Cardamone, Angela's sister. My grandmother was Rose Cardamone and married Tom Talarico. Of course, these are not the Italian spellings of their first names. I live in Santa Barbara, CA. I am from Memphis, where Tom and Rose settled before 1920. He worked for the ICRR and ended up going to Memphis with that work, where he and Rose stayed until their deaths. My Dad was Joseph Talarico. He was born in Illinois. However, his older brother and two sisters were born in Ohio. One of them, Aunt Annie, remained in Ohio and married a Sam Barbieri, later changed to Barber. That whole family is still in Ohio. I will send more info later, if you are interested.
Louise

Hi David,
I think we are likely distant relations as my great aunt angela Cardamone married a Cozza. A cousin in law in Ohio and I are researching all things Cardamone and all things Talarico. I, myself, am seeking birth certificates of my paternal grandparents who immigrated from Calabria region of Italy. I would love to continue communication and see what information we can share, if you are interested.

Louise

Hi Karie,
Thanks for the reply. In fact my great aunt conchetta was a Cardamoni. It was my grandmother, rosina cardamoni, who married my grandfather Tomasso Talarico.

When I reviewed the birth records for Petrona for the years surrounding 1887, I know I saw a Conchetta Talarico. In fact, there were many Talaricos listed in Petrona during those several years I looked at. I got these records through the Church of the Latter Day Saints, ordering the microfiche through their Family History Center for $3. They keep them for two weeks before sending them back to Utah. During that time, one can spend time reviewing them. They are all in Italian, but the FHS has some Italian translation. It was hard to recognize the years as they are written out in Italian. In a few cases, there is a year written, i.e. 1877, at the beginning of the set of records. If you like, I will locate the exact numbers for you and you may want to view them at the FHS in your area.

Louise

For anyone interested, I just found the town in Italy for the family of Michael Cardamone and Teresa Magaro of Ohio. They immigrated abt. 1890 from Cosenza Calabria.

I found the baptism records for thier first several children in San Pietro in Guarano, Cosenza. Based on Michael's age at baptisms it would place his birth abt. 1857 and lists San Pietro as his birth place. No data provided on Teresa.

Well, I am not even too sure if I have the right surname, in the Memorial Book that was prepared for Conchetta, there is a discrepency in the surnames. Our Aunt says there last name was Garramone but the book says different. It shows Cardamone and it also shows the name Gardamone. So I could just be barking up the wrong tree. I am running out of relatives who are directly related and know for sure. Thank you for your reply.
