Thanks so much for the information. She indeed married the balloonist Leo Stevens (d. 1944), but I could never pin down the wedding date (1924 or 1925) I think she used the last name of Carter but I haven't found the original marriage license. She is buried with her second husband as you said, have lived a very long life, into her nineties. No children herself as far as I know. She worked for Frederick Ambrose Clark who owned property around Fly Creek, NY. She inherited Leo's farm when he died. He was quite a celebrity in his day, pilot, inventor, etc.

She was born in Akron, Ohio on June 16, 1900 (d. 1991). I searched the County Clerk records in Akron, Cleveland, and NYC for a paper trail of her 1st marriage, but no luck.

Glad to share any details.

Best
Allen

I am somewhat familiar with Lauretta Marian "Laura" Cardarelli. I think she married a Mr. Stevens by 8 June 1924. Second marriage to Lynn Farrell, 2 May 1953, St. Mary's Church, Cooperstown, NY. Knew she was alive in 1953, but know no more after that date. Nicola Michele "Michael" Cardarelli was a younger brother to my great grandfather, Bernard/Berardino/Belardino Cardarelli.

Hi,

I am researching this lady who was born in Akron, Ohio on June 16, 1900, to her parents Michael and Mary. She was one of 14 children, but herself lived to be 91 years old. In 1925, she married a famous balloonist.

Willing to share any info.

Allen
My great-grandfather was also a Liberato Cardarelli, but probably different than your grandfather. He claimed that he was from Gilolona, Italy, born on May 28, 1858 and died on Sept. 30, 1933, a son of John and Pasqua Cardarelli, the mother's family name being Garberilia (from his own bio at http://wvls.lib.wi.us/ClarkCounty/clark/data/bios1/1123.htm).

I say "claimed", beacuse I can't find Gilolona on any maps.

I am looking for any information about relations to this Liberato Cardarelli, or about Gilolona, Italy. Thank you.

Hello John, Antonio Cardarelli, a well known medical doctor who founded the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples and became an Italian Senator, was born in Civitanova del Sannio. He probably is related to you. In those small villages people with the same surname are usually related.

Somewhere on the web is posted a genealogical table showing Antonio Cardarelli and his relatives. Search the web and you may find it if it is still posted. If I find it I will send it to you.

My mother, Giovanna Maria Cardarelli, said that her paternal grandmother, Teresa Ciaccia, had been treated by Antonio Cardarelli when she had broken her femur after falling from a carriage. As a result of this contact, she and her husband, Emilio Cardarelli, agreed with the doctor in conversation that they were related. However, I have not to date found any connection.

Al Rosati
rosati@comcast.net

I have no other information on him. I believe his father immigrated from Italy and he had family in the Boston area, including a Victor Cardarelli. Any info on who his parents were would be appreciated. Thanks.

Brandon just turned 21 he lives in Idaho. He came to visit me in California last summer.

What State do you live in? How old are you? How old is your brother?

Silly as it seems I have not seen my brother for many years, he is always moving from place to place.

First off, I was surprised to get a reply so quickly..Thanks. I just want to know if you have spoken to your brother recently, or where he has been? The last I knew, he was in the U.S. but sometimes called from different states. I kind of want to meet him, I'm not sure if he wants to see us. I know I have this one picture of Brandon when he was younger, and he is with a little blonde girl, but I think it is his cousin. I don't know very much more except my father is tall (maybe 6'4-ish) and we could all possibly be related.. I haven't seen him in about 10 years and am very curious to find out where he is before I graduate High School next year.. If you have any other information we could exchange that'd b great.
Thanks Again,
-Jessica

Hello Danny Cardarelli:

My mother was a Cardarelli from the Village of Ovindoli. Her father, Agostino d'Emilio Cardarelli, was born in Ovindoli also. This is my lineage through my maternal grandfather: Elvio Rosati of Detroit --> Giovanna Maria Cardarelli of Ovindoli --> Agostino Cardarelli --> Emilio Cardarelli --> Abele Cardarelli --> Croce Cardarelli who was an ancestor of many Cardarelli of Ovindoli.

My maternal grandmother, Domitila di Giovanni Vitale, was born in the Village of Sant'Iona - a fraction of the Comune of Ovindoli. Paternally, her great-grandmother was TERESA CARDARELLI who had married Caspero Vitale. My lineage through them goes this way: Elvio Rosati --> Giovanna Maria Cardarelli --> Domitila Vitale of Sant'Iona --> Giovanni Vitale --> Achille Vitale --> Teresa Cardarelli --> Ascanio Cardarelli who was an ancestor of many Cardarelli of Sant'Iona.

Teresa Cardarelli (daughter of Ascanio Cardarelli) was the sister of Giuseppe and Luca Cardarelli -- all of Sant'Iona -- and a first-cousin of Croce Cardarelli of Ovindoli. Luca Cardarelli married and produced children, but his brother, Giuseppe Cardarelli, did not. Giuseppe Cardarelli (born 1798) was a general in the military service of the Bourbon King of Naples and Sicily (or the Two Sicilies). His bust was on display in a museum in Naples before 1929 which my mother was able to see.

I have a large genealogical collection of both the Cardarelli of Ovindoli and of Sant'Iona. Are you related to this group? Let me know, please. My email address is ovindoli@usa.net. We may be able to share information.

Elvio "Al" Rosati
34851 Beaver Drive
Sterling Heights, Michigan 48312 .

Syracuse got my attention. I was born there but not raised there. My father changed the spelling of our surname when his grade school teacher mistaught him how to spell it, and it stuck! I'm afraid I do not know any Danny Cardarelli, thought. You'd think we'd all be related in that area. Who knows, maybe we are.

AAA Cardarelli

My mother, Giovannina Maria Cardarelli, had ties to the Commune and village of Ovindoli and to a village in that commune named Sant'Iona. The Cardarelli of both places come from the same origin and are related.
Probably, the most outstanding of these was Giuseppe Cardarelli, a brother of my great, great, great, grandmother (Teresa Cardarelli who married Caspero Vitale -- all three of these were from Sant'Iona) Teresa and her brother were first cousins of my great, great, great, grandfather (Croce Cardarelli of Ovindoli). Giuseppe Cardarelli was a General in the army of the Bourbon Kings of Naples of which he became the commander. My grandmother (Domitila Vitale) had his spurs and his insignia. Grandma returned these items to her relatives in Sant'Iona before she passed away. The Cardarelli family in Sant,Iona also has the general's sword and other personal objects. General Giuseppe Cardarelli's bust was in a museum in Naples prior to 1930. It may still be there.

Domitila Vitale (my maternal grandmother metioned above) married my grandfather, Agostino Cardarelli, a descendant of Croce -- mentioned above. Grandfather was mayor (cindaco) of the commune of Ovindoli and later judge at the local court in Ovindoli about the time of World War One. He was offered knighthood (Cavaliero della Crona or della Casa di Savoia) if he would continue another term as judge. He reject it all. After all, there was no salary attached to these positions and to these honors.

E(lvio) Al Rosati
rosati2@usa.net
34851 Beaver Drive
Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA 48312
1-810-268-4598

AAA Cardarelli

Ovindoli and Sant'Iona are villages near Celano in La Marsica, an area of the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzi region, east of Rome.

If you need information regarding the communes of the Abruzzi region of Italy (this includes four province --- L'Aquila, Chiete, and two others) find the Abruzzo 2000 website. It lists all of the communes (but not the smaller villages). The local jurisdiction in Italy is the commune. Commune's may have more than one village such as my parent's commune was Ovindoli. Ovindoli had four fractions or villages: Ovindoli, San Petito, Sant'Iona, and Casale d'Ovindoli. Casale has been abandoned and is uninhabited today.

E(lvio) Al Rosati

Wow! This is wonderful to find so many Cardarelli's!! I had almost given up -and altho I don't know much, I recently found out that my grandfather was born in 1902 in Abruzzo. His name was (as he has died) Liberato Cardarelli and I believe I remember that he had a cousin in San Francisco because he went to a wedding a few months before his death back in 1982. I have come to many dead (sorry for the pun) ends because he came to America and left his family in Italy -I remember seeing pictures of a cousin when he received pictures from his sister and honestly I wasn't much concerned at the time because of course we all think our grandparents will live forever!!
My daughter has a chance to go to Italy to play basketball and we have been researching our blood lines. It appears that since my mom was born before my grandparents were naturalized then we may have the gift of dual citizenship -what a wonderful thought.
If there is anyone out there that can remember a Liberato Cardarelli (living from the mid '20s to late 60's in Bedford Heights Ohio) or his sister back in Italy it would be helpful. My mom says she remembers that his family owned a hotel -but I don't know much else
Please email me at cindy_scaglione@innovexmortgage.com
