Hello!
I'm searching for information on the Cardell family that lived in Brookfield, Orange County, VT in the 1830's and 1840's. Elias Russell Cardell was born on 28 Feb 1840 in White Chapel, VT according to his death certificate. I'm not sure where White Chapel is. His military records state that he was born in Brookfield, Orange County, VT.
I have not been able to identify his parents or find him on any census records from 1840-1870. In 1861, he enlisted in the 10th Iowa Infantry at Malcom, Poweshiek County, IA. In 1865, he enlisted in the US Regular Army. He married Disa Rose TINSLEY about 1871 probably in Arkansas or Missouri. A son was born in 1873 in Carleton?, Arkansas according to his son's obituary. I'm not sure where Carleton is located. He moved to Walnut Grove, Greene County, MO before 1878. He is found on the 1880 census there. He moved to Pleasant Hope, Polk County, MO before 1884. He died in Wichita, Sedgwick County, KS in 1905. His usual place of residence was Springfield, Greene County, MO.
I know of at least one Cardell family who lived in Brookfield in the 1830's and 1840's. Edmund Cardell and Hannah BUCKLIN had children born in Brookfield in 1835 (Leander) and 1837 (Wilber). By 1850 they were in Warren, Washington County, VT. Elias is probably not their son, as he is not listed on any censuses with the family. They were also in Malcom, Poweshiek County, IA in the 1850's and 1860's. I'm nearly positive that Elias is related to Edmund in some way.
I'm trying to find the parents of Elias or any early records of him.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Grant
