Martha's name was Martha Evaline Tucker. Her father's name was John Johnson Tucker. William Arthur Cardin was my mother's uncle.She was born 15 Feb 1867 in Tellico Plains Tenn. She died 7 May 1949 in Noxon Sanders County Montana. William Thomas Kirkland/Cardin died in 1930 also in Montana.

You probably have all this information by now.Why they changed their name is still unanswered but it probably relates to The Kirkland Bushwackers. Relatives say that Martha simply wanted to get away from the intermarrying in the tribe and also to get away from all the violence. All Kirkland's were rejected that filed with Guion Miller because they moved away from the tribe and have not lived with them for many years. They cannot find any of their Kirkland ancestors on any of the rolls.
