Trying to piece my Varca family members together...from Sclafani Bagni, Palermo, Sicily, IT. I had a gr. aunt Frances (nee Varca). It seems my family always named their children after other relatives so I'm sure she was a namesake. Our family settled in Brooklyn. My grandfather, Giacomo came over in 1893 and his wife and children in 1895. They had 3 more in US after that(Salvatore, Frances and Marie). The older kids born in Sclafani were: Rosaria, Calogero, Filippo, Antonio, and my grandmother -Giacoma. I think we're connected here somehow and I'd like to learn more.

Came to NYC sometime between 1906 - 1910 before sending for family. His wife Vincenza (Segretto) came to NYC from port of Palermo, Feb 1911 with son Vincenzo and daughter Giovanna. Youngest son, Napoleone Salvatore traveled a year later with a guardian.

Thank you for the reply. I remember an Uncle Tony as a kid when I was still in Brooklyn. My Mother is still alive and will have further information. We grew up in the City Line area near Pitkin Ave, St Sylvester's parish. I think our address was 579 Elderts Lane. jk

The Varca side of the family lived in Brooklyn. The one's I remember are the following: Great Uncle Tony Varca, I think his wife's name was Marie or Mary. They had 3 children, Tony, Sara, and one other that I can't remember the name right now. I will have to look further at the paper work I have. Francesca Varca came from Slafani Palermo. Hi: My Mother's dad came from Palermo around 1905. He settled in Brooklyn NY, where I was born. We do not know for sure if his name is actually Varca in Italy, but I have a copy of his social security card application which spells Varca. I am a decendant of the Cardinale name my grandfather was Joseph Cardinale he has a sister named Sarah (Biggie), my great-grandparents passed away when they were both young, they were Charles Sarah Cardinale, my great great grandparents came from Palermo Italy came to NY and lived in the downtown section of New York City. I don't know my great great grandfathers first name but, my great great grandmothers name was Sarafina Cardinale. The had 2 sons and 5 daughters Lena, Antonia (Minnie), Anna, Grace, Josephine. I am not sure if it was from Sicily or perhaps from the village of Cardinale in So. Italy.
