My mother's maiden name was Carel. The best I can tell, my line starts in England in 1815 with Amos and Martha Boss Carel. Their son Amos was born in Kentucky 1859, married Louisa Schmitz, then moved to Missouri. My grandfather James H Carel and his family were born around Jefferson City and all around Cole County, before moving to Union City OK. Not sure where your Carel's come from, but if any of this is familiar, I would love to share information.

Traci

My Carels came from France. They got a land grant from the king of France. It has been passed down that the name was DeCarel not sure of the spelling, but that they Americanized it when they came here. My Carels were in Ohio, before some of them came to California.

Nathan I now see that i responded to another query of yours. About the CARELS moving to the U. S.--my connection goes so far back that I don't know of any of them moving to the U. S. I do know that a lot of people from Luxembourg settled in Iowa and Minnesota though. My connection with the Carel line is through my Great Grandmother, Anna Gottlieb, who was born in Ralingen. She came to the U. S. with 2 children and went to Chicago--in about 1857. She is on the Cook Co., census. She later moved out to Northwest Indiana in Lake County, married my Great Grandfather, Peter FLECK. Her two boys "took" the name of FLECK.The line comes down from there.

Ralingen is just across the Süre River from Rosport, Luxembourg. A bridge connects the two villages. Their daughter, Margaretha married Charles Philippi GOTTLIEB. I have books on Ralingen and Rosport families. If you think this is your line I can furnish more information

B.C. Carel the Fisher/Kirkham Connection

In researching my gg-uncle's Civil War Pension (Martin Fisher), the papers list his widow as Laura C. (Kirkham) Fisher, and a minor as B.C. Carel. This is the first I have ever heard this name, and wonder what relationship this B.C. Carel has to the Fisher family. Supposedly, since my Uncle Martin and Aunt Laura were married only a few months when he enlisted in the Civil War and died several months later, they had no children. If anyone can help identify B.C. Carel, residing in either Calhoun or Barry County in the early 1860's with some connection to the Fisher family, please contact me at AlliedHR@aol.com

Thank You - Connie Sims
