John Carey was born October 20, 1802 in Philadelphia, PA. He was in Deer Creek Township, Carroll County, Indiana in August 1828, and in 1829 was given a commission for seven years as judge of probate court in Carroll county. He went to Oregon in 1847 as part of the Buell wagon train. He represented District 22, Yamhill County, in the 1852 Oregon House as a member of the Federal Party.
He married Ruth Odell August 26, 1824 in Wayne County, Indiana. Carey bend was named for John and Ruth. They had (at least) three children. Sarah Anne Carey married William McKune. Amanda Ellen Carey married Cyrus Buell, son of Elias Buell, who led the 1847 wagon train to Oregon. John Wesley Carey married Caroline Hash.
Would like to confirm parents, siblings and children of John Carey and to find any narratives that may be in the family about the Oregon trail. Was Joseph Doan Carey his son?
