I see there was much research done by Mr. Finn in 1998-2000, along with others. Hopefully some of you are still out there.

I did a comprehensive search of Thomas Cary and Thomas Carey 1790 to 1860 in both NY and PA.

I also searched Earl Holley Carey (my wife's line).

Apart from the Thomas Car(e)y in Broome Co., NY and another listed simutaneously in 1830 and 1840, and being the same age and both credited with the 1776 birth in Fishkill, there are other inconsistencies that show up in the US Census for the Carey's in Wyoming Co. (Luzerene prior to 1840).

First, Thomas Carey in Tunnkock in 1830 and 1840 has young children living with him. Were they his kids?

Lydia Rought was thought to be his last wife. Did the kids belong to Lydia and did the keep the last name of Rought?

1850 census shows an E. Carey living in Falls, PA. It says he was born in NY in 1790 and has a woman named Lydia (and kids). Who is this? It isn't Earl or Earl Jr., they both appear in the census.

I see David Finn found the unmarked grave of Thomas Carey in Starkville. I was wondering if anybody checked into probate for a will.

I will head down to Tunnkanock in a couple of weeks to visit the geneology library and county clerk's office.

If anyobdy has anything to add, I would appreciate it.

With regard to the Cary's in Broome Co., there was a Thomas alive in Union, Broome Co., NY in 1850. 74 years old, b. about 1776, living with him was Polly (64), Charles S. (27) and Ruth (27) and William (1). There was no Thomas Cary or Carey in Wyoming Co., PA in 1850.
