Hi Joe,
Your Careys are a little bit later than mine but I was curious if you had figured out anything about their parents?

My grandfather was Edgar John Carey (1873-1951) in the 1880 census on Monument Avenue in Philly living with his widowed mother Annie Carey, age 27. She remarried and I don't know the stepfather's name. Nor do I know Edgar's real father's name. Can't find Edgar's birth certificate (he said he was from Reading PA but no record there) and his death certificate says parents unknown. No marriage record and on his Soc Sec ap, he said father was Edward John Carey and mother unknown.

Edgar married Katharine Graham nee Dougherty around 1906 and lived in Atlantic City NJ. His aunt ran a boarding house there (her name may have been Hannah Edgar, nee Carey but Hannah's brother John died in 1878, apparently unmarried.

Just a shot in the dark in case anyone recognizes this Carey branch.
Thanks
Kate
