John/Bridget Carey, lived in New York City in late 1800s

researching my husband's great-great-grandparents. John was a NYPD Detective Sergeant who was murdered in the line of duty in November 1892. He left behind a widow, Bridget Conway Carey, and their 5 children. His death certificate indicates he had been in the US, all in NYC, for 26 years. Trying to find where he is buried (know it is Southold, Long Island) and what happened to Bridget and their children....she doesn't show up on censuses with that name...wondering if she used another name or remarried?? Thanks in advance.

I am 29 and I live in NJ. My grandfather's name is Baton Floyd Carey (he is 75). He has one brother that I know of his name is Art (He is also in his 70's). I know that they were from a small town near Souix City, IA. I am just wondering if there is anyone out there that I may be related to. Cousins and such. I don't know much else about his family before his marriage to my late grandmother Selma. If anyone out there knows anything or is related (even distantly) to the Carey's from that area please let me know.

Catherine Cary (Carey) married Robert R. Gover on 17 October 1819 in Loudoun County Virginia. She and Robert had at least 7 children as are shown in the 1850 and 1860 Loundoun County Census. Robert presumably died between 1850 and 1860 Catherine between 1860 and 1870.

I would be very interested learning anything at all about this family. Particularly, of course, their ancestors.
William Joshua Carey/Emma Elizabeth Hopwood

My grandparents were married August 3, 1904 in Fillmore, IL
My father, William Louis Carey was born April 3, 1905. He had 2 brothers, Charles and James Edward and 2 sisters, Luella and Maude. My grandmother died about 1915 and probably kids were raised by Hopwoods. Charlie married Polly and had 13 kids (3 sets of twins, I beleive). I am #10 of William Louis "Louie" Carey and Emily Gertrude Watson's eleven children. They moved from Illinois to Idaho in 1941. I have lived in Idaho, Oregon and now Washington. About 25-30 years ago I wrote to one of Uncle Charlie's granddaughters. Uncle Eddie may have been married to Rena. I would like to connect with any related Careys. My grandfather remarried Agnes and had 5 sons, the oldest Otto died at 80 on July 4, 200l. My grandfather died in Priest River, Idaho around 1960 something. Before my father died in Aug. 1964 and my mother died in Feb. 1966. I have not been able to trace William Joshua Carey(possible birthdate April 1880). Possibly his parents were Charles Carey and Mary Martha Maroon. He may have had a twin, Katie. Another story is that he was adopted. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Emma Elizabeth Hopwoods parents were James Hopwood and Martha Ann Wade according to my notes from many years ago. Unfortunately, I do not know any older relatives to find out more information. Aunt Luella (married to Harold Toberman) has died. Aunt Maude Brown (divorced) may have passed away also. My mother's sister, Velma Watson was married to Aunt Luella's husband's brother, Howard. He is deceased and I am not sure if she is living. So I am looking for descendants of Charlie and Eddie.
thanks, Elizabeth

Known to have gone to Glasgow, Scotland; Barrow in Furness, England and possibly the United States.

My grandparents were Henry Carey (b1869) and Rebecca Clingan (b1869).
My great grandparents were Robert Carey (b.1836) and Elizabeth McKinley (b1842) married about 1867/8. I also require more information on Henry Carey, Robert's father born about 1810 and his wife Margaret McMonegal.

Robert Carey and family (4 sons) first appear in the 1891 Census in Glasgow.

Any information regarding these families would be useful.

Many thanks,
Anne
Thomas Carey or Cary b. 1776 Dutches Co., NY d. 1841 Wyoming Co., PA

I see there was much research done by Mr. Finn in 1998-2000, along with others. Hopefully some of you are still out there.

I did a comprehensive search of Thomas Cary and Thomas Carey 1790 to 1860 in both NY and PA.

I also searched Earl Holley Carey (my wife's line).

Apart from the Thomas Car(e)y in Broome Co., NY and another listed simutaneously in 1830 and 1840, and being the same age and both credited with the 1776 birth in Fishkill, there are other inconsistencies that show up in the US Census for the Carey's in Wyoming Co. (Luzerene prior to 1840).

First, Thomas Carey in Tunnkock in 1830 and 1840 has young children living with him. Were they his kids?

Lydia Rought was thought to be his last wife. Did the kids belong to Lydia and did the keep the last name of Rought?

1850 census shows an E. Carey living in Falls, PA. It says he was born in NY in 1790 and has a woman named Lydia (and kids). Who is this? It isn't Earl or Earl Jr., they both appear in the census.

I see David Finn found the unmarked grave of Thomas Carey in Starkville. I was wondering if anybody checked into probate for a will.

I will head down to Tunnkanock in a couple of weeks to visit the geneology library and county clerk's office.

If anyobdy has anything to add, I would appreciate it.

With regard to the Cary's in Broome Co., there was a Thomas alive in Union, Broome Co., NY in 1850. 74 years old, b. about 1776, living with him was Polly (64), Charles S. (27) and Ruth (27) and William (1). There was no Thomas Cary or Carey in Wyoming Co., PA in 1850.

George Washington Carey and Anna Munson Carey

I am interested in genealogical info on the family of George Washington Carey, b. ca 1852 of Dow City, married to Anna Munson Carey, b. ca 1865, d. 1910-20. His parents were Ambrose D. Carey, b ca 1823, d. 1880-85 , and Hannah (Fannie) Hayes Carey of Paradise Township.
George and Anna Carey had five children, the oldest Charles, b. 1883, was my grandfather; George Jr. settled in Nebraska; while the two twins, John and Mary remainded in Crawford County as did the youngest, Emma, born after my grandfathers departure.
John, who I believe remainded about Dow City had one son named William, while Mary married a Claude Blackman, had a large family and lived in both Dow City and Dennison. Mary I can remember visiting our home in Niles,Michigan (just north of South Bend,IN) in the late '50s but there was no visitation with other family members from Iowa except one of Mary's daughters Margeret Blackman Beck, who carried on a correspondence with my father until his death in 1963. On a family vacation in 1964, we did visit Margaret who had remarried (a man with a Ukrainian name) and was living in Earling.

Steven Carey
1301 N.
Daniel married Mary Fouhy of Ballinoe in 1812 in the RC parish of Kildorrery. I think the Denis Carroll who married Mary Carey a bit earlier is probably a brother-in-law (Mary a sister to Daniel). Marriage witnesses for Daniel and Mary were Denis Carroll and Patrick Fouhy. I am searching for my Kildorrery Carrolls and am trying to figure out who the Denis Carroll is that married Mary Carey.

I also am searching for Carey's from Waterford County. Johanna (Tobin) Carey b. 1829 in Waterford County. Married James Carey. Immigrated to U.S. (1840's ?) and eventually settled in Wisconsin. (Evidently several of James brothers did also-they all had a dozen kids and it's very difficult to sort out. Trying to find more early info on James and Johanna. Any clues appreciated!

Am looking for any info on Gilbert Carey. All I know is he married a Brotherton and their daughter Annie Elizabeth Carey married Jonas Delyea. I have a photo of him taken around 1918 and I'm guessing he would have been born around 1840's and lived in northern MN -- may have moved to Idaho with the rest of the family around 1918?

I have a photograph taken at Newbury, Kansas around 1910 in front of a school house and in the photo are four brothers John(1896-1918) George(1897-1965) Clarence(1900-1919) and Lee(1901-1968) The information I have found is from Kansas history book "Stories of the Past" on page 32 it list the brothers. John died in France WWI, Clarence died 1919, George and Lee Carey/Cary lived into the 1960's and both are buried in the Eskridge Cemetery in Eskridge, Kansas. I was wondering if there were any family members out there that might want a copy of the photo.

Greetings from Australia.

I am researching the family of Martin CAREY b. c1830 and Bridget (aka Delia) McINERNEY. I know that for some time at least, they lived in Kilmihil, Co. Clare.

Children, Mary Jane c1854, Patrick b. 1857, Bridget b. 1858 Kilmihil, James b. c1860. Martin b. c1859. Kilmihil, Catherine b. 1864, Nora b. 1859, Margaret b.
c1872, Ellen b. c1874. All born in Co. Clare.

I am certain, some of the family migrated to Albany, New York and perhaps others to Pennsylvania (to be confirmed). Some of the girls married FLYNN family in Albany, New York.

Others migrated to Australia, including my ggrandmother, Bridget, age 19. She arrived in South Australia, married Michael McGRATH and they moved to Victoria.

Their children, Elsie, Daniel, John, Mary and Daisy.

Any information is greatly appreciated.
Charles Mynn Carey, b ~1789 in Virginia married ~1810 probably in Woodford County, KY to Nancy Finnie. They settled in Union County, KY. The family was found in the census of 1820 and 1830 with children indicated, but not found in 1840. Nancy Carey, 61, was living with J. W. Finnie (her brother) and Fanny Carey, 18, in Union County in 1850. Distant relatives believe they may have migrated to Kansas or Colorado, but I can find no trace. Any information about this family would be appreciated. May also be spelled "Cary."

Charles Cary, also known as Charles Carey born 5th Jan 1887

Who has info on Charles Cary born 5 January 1887 vicinity of either Silver Lake, or more probably at town of Long Creek, Oregon. His WW1 registration card for the draft of 1917 shows him living Elmore Idaho and working for a livestock company.
He had a sister who went by Vina Carey (family correct spelling is Cary) and who lived vicinity of Salt Lake in year 1911. She was born vicinity of Silver Lake, Oregon 1889.
On 23rd October 1911 in Boise, Idaho, his father, Commodore Cary (Carey) murdered his mother, Viola Lillian Cary (Carey) then committed suicide via gunshot at their residence in Boise, Idaho. This following a history of mental problems and probably depression as evidenced by published reports in the daily news at the time of occurrence.
Charles Carey's father was Commodore Cary. He used the spelling of Commodore Carey and was one of several children of Miles Cary and Nancy Jean Robinette, who were very early pioneers to Linn County, Oregon Territory.
Commodore's son, Charly Carey, true name Charles Christopher Carey as he most likely may have spelled it, had been tossed out of the house when a younger boy by his father per the obituary. The evidence points to this being about age 18 or more, however.
Due to his age and probably lack of association with his sister, distance to relatives, and economics, he may or may not have had communication with many cousins.
If you have additional information please share.
Uncle Jim was preceded in passing by his brother, William S. Carey, Brother Gene B. Carey, sister Elizabeth G. Carey-Thornton and their parents, Kenneth John Carey and Helen Marion Fanning-Thornton. Kenneth and all their children were born at Rockford, Winnebago, IL. Helen Marion Fanning was born at Chicago, Cook, IL.

Jim's life, while challenging, was filled with his well-known vocal renditions of traditional Irish folksongs in the many Irish Pubs of Long Beach, CA. Jim was cared for by the Angel, Vergie who continues to care for his memory and soul.

Services are pending. The celebration of his life will be attended eulogized by his neice, Kathleen Gean Thornton-Lerma and nephew, William Jackson Thornton.

We love you, Uncle Jimmy

CARREY/Carey 1804.

Is anyone researching this surname with either of the spellings CAREY/CARREY.? G-g-g-grandfather William Carrey, born Glenluce, Wigtonshire, c1804. No record of birth or baptism in any Scottish parochial registers from this region. Parents' names unknown. Possibly they were originally from Ireland; there is just one person in the Wigtonshire (Kirkcolm)1851 census records with the surname of CARREY who is the right age to be related as a brother to William; he came from Derry, Ireland, so they could be related or from the same Irish region....long shot.
William married Mary JOHNSTON from Kilmarnock in 1836. I know nothing about William's ancestry or whether he had any more than the one child (James). No American links are known of. Wigtonshire research pages reveal nothing further to help.

I am looking for information about an aunt and uncle I never met.
They were Caroline Mildred Carey(born abt. 1901) and Charles Carey (born abt. 1903), the children of Lorenzo Harrison Carey and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Howes. I believe these people were born in the Cape Vincent N.Y. area. Lorenzo later wed Fannie Goslin Morrison. I have found myself stonewalled at this point.
Thank you
George Halladay
Careys from Wigan

In my family tree I have a Charlotte Taylor b1832 marrying a James Carey b 1831. Married 1852 in Wigan. By the 1861 census they had 4 kids Mary b1854, Sarah b 1856. Margaret b 1858 and James b 1860. In the 1871 census I can only find the son James listed as living in Wigan with his aunts Sarah Tickle and Harriet Taylor and an uncle Joesph Taylor (all siblings of his mom charlotte). I havent stumbled across the rest of the family in any other census. Charlotte died in 1882 in Wigan and James (the father) died in 1896 also in Wigan. James the father is son of Patrick and Mary Carey. Charlotte the mother is daughter of James and Sarah Taylor. Any info would be welcome!
Thanks, Alison

Grandfather, William Joshua Carey

My grandfather, Wm Joshua Carey was born April 8, 1880 in Bond County, Illinois. I am told he had a twin sister, Kate. She had a son John Pickering born in St. Louis, MO and died July 10, 1950 in Highland Illinois hospital & is buried in Greenville. Kate died Nov. 12, 1914 and is buried at Suggs(?) Cemetery in Pocahontas, Illinois. Wm. and Kate were Cherokee/Irish possible French. It is said that their grandmother was full blood Cherokee. No way to prove this.
My grandfather was a wanderer at times. He was a preacher. May have went by "Will". His second wife was Agnes Hulett. She was born January 10, 1892 in Schuyler County, Illinois and died May 6, 1957 in a hospital in Newport, WA and is buried in Priest River, Idaho. Wm died March 27, 1963 at Sandpoint hospital and is buried in Priest River, Idaho. They had 5 sons. John Jackson Carey was born January 21, 1930 in Cass County Beardstown, Illinois. He still lives in Priest River, Idaho and one other son is living in Moses Lake, Wa. His name is Daniel Booth Carey. Johnny's wife, Connie had researched the Careys but I don't know what happened to the info after her death. Most of this is from a letter I received from her in 1978.
If any of this sounds familiar. Please email me at elizabethandray@aol.com.
Thanks, Elizabeth Carey-Holderby in WA state
