The Albert Henry Carey that is in my line died 11/25/1918 (I do not have a date of birth of him). His wife Rose Millicent Cheshire was born 1877 and died 3/30/1953. I do not know if any of this information is helpful to you. Please let me know.

Thank you,

My Grandmother was a Carey in Tarrant County Texas, Ft Worth, in the early 1900s. Her father was a Carey from Lampasses Texas and then on back to Plymouth in 1683. After the marriage of her daughter to a Vincent, branches of the Carey tree are now Vincent,Harner and Washburn in the Dallas Ft. Worth area. Oops some Vincent's have escaped to Oklahoma City.

I believe my own grandfather, William Henry Carey was the oldest brother in this Carey family. The names that you have given seem to known to me from the distant past. My own father was Albert James Carey. My Uncle George lived in Mead Platt N W 10 and aunt Lil his sister lived in Brownlow Road NW10. Does this help?

Hello,
I am trying to prove or discount if Richard Carey, born in 1780 in North Petherton changed his name to Richard Case. Do you have any records of Richard apart from his birth? My Richard Case was a carpenter who lived in Evercreech and Shepton Mallet. When gaoled he stated he was born in North Petherton in 1780. I borrowed the church records and there is no birth for him or any other Case records.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Regards
Cai

Are you still looking for your Daniel Carey? I am interested in a Daniel Carey who married a Mary Tuohy in 1812 in the RC parish of Kildorrery, Cork. There is the slight chance that Daniel's sister Mary was the first wife of my gggrandfather, Denis Carroll.

Hello,
I am responding to your Carey inquiry to ask
if you know where in Tipperary co. your Carey
family originated. My great-grandmother was
Elizabeth Carey born in Edina, Minnesota. Her
father immigrated from Ireland in 1846 first
to N.J. for a few years and then to Baltimore
where he married Ann Ryan in 1853. In 1855
the couple moved to Edina, outside of Minneapolis, and had 10 children. His county
history bio states he was from Tipperary,
Tipperary Co. Ire. I was just wondering if
the surname was concentrated in a certain area of Tipperary.
Thanks, Mary
My grandfather, William Joshua Carey was born April 1880 and married my grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Hopwood August 1904. She died in 1915. He remarried and moved to Idaho. He died before my father, William Louis Carey (1964). I do not know much about him as his parents died and he was raised by another family. Possibly had twin sister, Kate. Possibly part Indian (mother's grandmother). He and Emma had 5 children. My dad, Wm. "Louie" was the oldest, 2 sisters, Maude and Luella and 2 brothers, Charlie and Eddie. What was your William's middle name and where did he live?

Family stories say they 1st went to Indiana then to MO. Their children were: Mary B-1850, Emily B-1857, William B-1861, James 1863, Edward, Michael, Frank. I would like to find parents of Michael. He came from Tipperary, Ireland. We have information on the rest of the children except Frank. He moved to Ill. after 1920. Please help us find the rest of our history!

Hi Teri,
We're missing a gap between our two Carey families so that makes it so hard to make a connection. Yours were in Waterford later than mine. If you could find your oldest possible Carey ancestor there you could problem follow them thru. I've heard some hospital named St. Joseph's in Dungarvan has some records from 1864 forward. There are also death records in Waterford past 1864.

In doing the search of those other families I've established that they were probably most related to my Carey/Fitz family since they were so close on various census. At least two were from Ardmore and I remembered that yours were from Ardmore.

The chase continues....

Thanks,

Mary

We have no one that we're aware of that is living in Wisconsin or anywhere else outside of Ireland. I believe the farthest west anyone ever got was NJ.

I'm not much help to you, but the 2 parents James/Ellen (Dee) Carey and 3 girls, 2 are deceased and my mother, who is living.

My records certainly don't go back as far as yours either. I need to dig out the dates of James' parents.

Hi Teri,

I have my Carey file here now. I'll review fou you on the old and tell you the new.

Old: My Carey name comes from Mweelnahorna, Ring. She's listed as Mary CAREW in the old Ring books. Spelling has been changed since to Carey. She married Old Maurice Fitzgerald in Ring, 1824. A sponsor was James Carew. Nine Fitz children all born in Ring between 1826-1845. Several have Carew sponsors.

All this family but one Fitz child settled in Lafayette Co. in sw Wisconsin, USA. From there, a few of the original Fitz children moved on to SD, Iowa and WA state.

From 1860-1910 the census shows other Carey families in Lafayette Co. Many of them were neighbors. I calculated how close some happened to be living next to this Fitz/Carey family. I figured some could be related to Mary Carey Fitz and so could be also from Ring area..

New: On an assumption that some of these Careys were related to mine in Lafayette Co I sent to Waterford Heritage Survey to do a search. I was quite successful. I found at least 3 of the Carey families of Lafayette Co from Ring/Ardmore area.

1. Parents: John Carey and Mary Carty
Daughter: Mary Carey, Aug 20, 1835
Sponsors: Maurice Loughnan and Catherine Halloran
Parish: Ardmore

At least I think this family was in Lafayette Co, Wi. We think they had a son named Owen Carey who doesn't show up in the Baptismal records.

2. Parents: Thomas Carey and Ellen/Helen Keane
Daughter: Mary Carey, Dec. 8 1836
Sponsors: James Hasset and Mary Mooney
Parish/Church: Ardmore

Son: Daniel Carey, Sep 14, 1842
Sponsor: Martin Hassett
Parish/Church: Ardmore

3: Parents: Patrick Carew/Carey and Margaret Mahoney
Son: James Carew, Feb 19, 1849
Spn: Michael Mahoney and Ellen Kiely
Parish/Church: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Coonencunneely

Son: John Carew, Nov 2, 1851
Spn: Maurice Cantwell and Ellen Foley
Parish/Church: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Carrigeen

Daughter: Mary Carew, Aug 8, 1854 (twin)
Spn: Thomas Mahony and Ellen Ketch
Parish/Church: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Ballymacart

Daughter: Anastasia Carew, Aug 8, 1854 (twin)
Spn: Thomas Breen and Anastasia Mahony
Parish/Church: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Ballymacart

Daughter: Mary Carew Aug 13, 1855
Spn: Michael Kiely and Catherine Kiely
Parish/Church: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Ballymacart

Son: Thomas Carey Jun 17, 1861
Spn: Edmund Veale and Anne Veale from Barranastook
Parish: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Knockroe

Daughter: Ann Carey Sep 19, 1863
Spn: Thomas Power of Ballynaharda and Ellen Troy of Ballintlea.
Parish: Ring and Old Parish
Address: Barranstoook

Notes by the researcher, O'Connor, says that between 1813 and 1824 there were 10 Carew couples in Ring Parish. He says there were no CAREYs in the Ring registers. "It may be that Carew was transposed to Carey on the arrival of members of the famiy to the US." I can agree with that but in case of the Patrick Carew/Carey and Mgt Mahony family, the name starts out as Carew in 1849 but changes to Carey in 1861, all in the same family. In another sentence O'Connor writes that Carey is not a variant of Carew but notices that the two spellings do mix w/in one family.

I'm writing this because I remember your Carey name comes from Ardmore. Do you see anything familiar here? Tell me again, where did your Carey family settle?

Thanks mucho for reading all this,

Mary

Hi Maureen,
This is your Fitz/Carey cousin, Mary O'Connor. Just checking in. I did some checking in Ring, Co. Waterford and found a bunch of those Careys in Shullsburg area were from
Ring area, same as ours. This proves to me that a whole lot of the Careys in S/burg area were related to our Mary Carey Fitz as she was from the same place in Waterford.

oconnorw@phibred.com

Mary O'Connor

Hello Teri,

You and I corresponded some years ago re the Carey name of Ring/Ardmore area. I'm just trying to stay in touch.

I've made one discovery: I've learned that several other Carey families of Lafayette Co. Wi where my Fitzgerald/Carey family settled, were also of Ring/Ardmore area. One for sure is from Ardmore. I don't have my notes in front of me but I can look it up.

Mary O'Connor
Minnesota

Hi Mary,

Come to find out, my relatives the Carey's were "friends" of the Fitzgerald's. Although, if you're related to the Carey's - the one I spring from is James & Ellen Carey - they lived in the Goat Island section of Ardmore. James' family was from Ardmore as well. I have most of the information on James' and Ellen's brothers/sisters of the time. They were very dear friends of the Fitzgeralds and stayed in touch until Ellen (my grandmother) passed away in 1994 at the age of 104-1/2. If this sounds right to you, you can e-mail me @ terioberg@webtv.net

Teri

P.S.
DNA project update

I would like to provide this summary of our Carey/Cary y-DNA Surname Project. The project home page is http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/carey

We currently have 77 members in the project from haplogroups E, G, I, R1a and R1b. Most members are from haplogroup R1b.

Many members do not have DNA matches within the project at this time so we are unable to assign them to lineages. However, we have been able to identify 8 lineages from matches within the project.

Haplogroup R1a – Lineage I. We have three project members who are in this lineage. One member has identified an earliest ancestor born in Delaware in the early 1800s and provided a pedigree which is on our Patriarchs page. Another has identified an earliest ancestor who does not have the Carey surname.

Haplogroup R1b - Lineage I. We have six project members who are from this lineage which gives us the beginnings of a pretty good modal for this lineage. Most have identified that their earliest ancestor was Thomas Cary who emigrated from England to the United States in the 1660s, living first in Virginia and then Maryland. Based on the pedigree information they provided we have a posted a combined pedigree that links most of them on our Patriarchs page. Comparative analysis of the haplotypes for these members supports the pedigree.

Haplogroup R1b – Lineage II. We have five project members in this lineage with different earliest known ancestors. None have provided pedigrees.

Haplogroup R1b – Lineage III. We have three project members in this lineage. All of them have identified a connection to the Bahamas. Two have indicated that their earliest known ancestor was a William Carey born in the Bahamas circa 1840. They have not provided pedigrees at this time.

Haplogroup R1b - Lineage IV. We have three project members in this lineage. Two have indicated their earliest ancestor was Jonathon Cary born circa 1711 in Maryland.

Haplogroup R1b – Lineage VI. We have two project members in this lineage. One has provided a pedigree with an earliest ancestor John Cary born in Bristol, England, circa 1610 who immigrated to Massachusetts in the early-1600s. The other has an earliest known ancestor born in New York circa 1808. Comparative analysis of the haplotype for these two members suggests that their earliest most recent common ancestor lived before John Cary emigrated from England.

Haplogroup R1b – Lineage VII. We have three members in this lineage but one does not have the surname Carey. Although all three have different earliest known ancestors, all have a connection to Ireland. Two have provided pedigrees. Comparative analysis of the haplotype for these two members suggests that their earliest most recent common ancestor lived about 8-10 generations ago.

Haplogroup R1b – Lineage VIII. We have two members in this lineage. Both have provided pedigrees indicating that their earliest known ancestor was a John Cary from Buckinghamshire, England. A combined pedigree is posted on our Patriarchs page.

John Carey
Project Co-Administrator
Beth - thank you! I'm still trying to decide if your Jane is the sister of my 2nd great grandfather John B. (who was a blacksmith). I think there were numerous other siblings, but we're only certain of Jane, John B., and Patrick. John B. married Bridget McGuire while in Canada after his first wife died, then they moved to PA, then IL. Do you know Jane's parents' names, siblings' names, Jane's date of birth, or have any other info for her or her family that may make this a definite connection? Do you have any info on the family while they were in Ireland? Canada? I will give you a call within the next few days, but am anxious to see if our families are truly the same. If so, it would be amazing! We have been searching for a long time for info on John B. and his family, and have come to dead end after dead end. Let me know if you still think this is the same family as yours. I'm happy to share any info I have with you, but want to make sure that we're talking about the same family. Anxious to hear from you!! Pam

Hello Pam, It's nice to find another relative from my mothers family line. The information on the Cary family is accurate. I will send you a pic of Jane Cary & Daniel O'neil as they were my ggreatparents. Do you have a picture of your John B Carey?
I have tracked down every pic of the previous generations of my mothers line. I would love it if you could send copies of the family bible pages with the informations you just wrote about.

Have you had contact with the O'Neil genealogist in our family? Diane O'Neil has all the info but I found more in doing moms tree.
I was working on the Carey & Sisk line who married into the O'Neil & Whelton lines but this is amazing news. Jane was a no nonsense woman and Daniel was full of spit and vinegar, just plain fun. There are stories.
Do you have the village and county the Careys were born in?

My number is 520-256-1421. I live in Tucson and Scottsdale is not to far away. I'm sending you a pic of my ggrandparents. I'm sending two picture formats just in case you can't open one. Take care cousin.
Beth O'Neil-McGee

Hi. I'm wondering if your great-grandmother, Jane, had a sibling named John B. Carey? John B. is my 2nd great-grandfather. We know that they were born in Ireland, then went to New Brunswick, Canada around 1851. We have copies of some of the pages from the family bible that says that John's sister, Jane, married in New Brunswick and settled there. John went from NB to Pennsylvania, then ended up in Chicago. Please let me know if you think your Jane is my John's sister. *By the way, I'm in Scottsdale. Thanks! Pam Carey Zimmerman

There are books I have seen that show all the Carey allotments around Grove, Oklahoma. However, I believe that most, if not all were sold soon.

Stonewall Jackson Carey was married to Ora when he died. Ora recieved a penson the rest of her life due to his being a vet of the Spanish American War. He served in Puerto Rico, in the Coastal Artillery.

I have a story about land that Stonewall and his son Bruce had bought together, later after Bruce and Stonewall both died, it was lost due to mortgage default and it ended up at the bottom of Grand Lake.

What is your story?

There is an old family story regarding the allotted lands that leads me to believe that Ora was his wife at the time of his death.
Debbie,
I am researching Martin Carey from Ireland. He was born in Ireland in 1946. We think he immigrated about 1855. His children were named Martin J. Carey, Cathrine Carey and William Carey.
William Carey's children were named Elmer, Earl, Lillian, Cathrine and Benard.
Martin's children were named Helen, Marion, Geraldine, Clement, Rita and Norbert.

Don't know if there is a connection here but . . . you never know.

If you come across a martin carey, please let me know.

Thanks,

David Carey

Thank you for replying to my inquiry on Cornelius Carey. I also found the same two Carey's in Ireland as you did. I guess my next move is to find a death record for him and hopefully it will have his parents name on the certficate. Thanks again.

Hello, I am looking for any information on Cornelius Carey. He was born 1866 in Ireland. He came to the US in 1881. I believe his ship docked in Philadephia, Pa. Cornelius married Carrie Chambers 1890. He was a shoemaker in Portland, Me. Their children were Edith, Helen, Lillian and Minny. I would like to find out who his parents were and where in Ireland he was born. Any information would be greatly arrpeciated. Thanks.

I am a great granddaughter of Cornelius and Carrie [Chambers] Carey. One of the names of the listed children is incorrect. Are you a genealogist or a family member?
